Pure Blackstar Power in a Pedal-sized Package

Dept. 10 has once again implemented their renowned sound design expertise to deliver 100 watts of bona fide Blackstar sonics that will fit snugly on your pedalboard. As Blackstar’s R&D division, Dept. 10 made the AMPED1 to deliver five distinctive valve responses, alongside a transparent, linear power amp setting, adding the pedal’s exceptional versatility. Variable power reduction options, universal voltage, and a diverse suite of I/O choices ensure straightforward and accommodating integration into any live, studio, or recording setups. Blackstar’s CabRig system allow for deep customization of simulated cab and microphone combinations, using state-of-the-art processing to overcome the “snapshot” limitations of most IR configurations. Three user-preset slots make for easy access, and their free Architect software will let you dive even deeper to fine-tune your tones. Foot-switchable reverb, 3-band EQ, and preset toggling ensure unfettered access to your sound, delivering high-headroom tone with unmatched optimization tools that have Sweetwater’s amplifier afficionados thoroughly impressed.

Unmatched flexibility

Despite the total 100-watt output, the AMPED1 includes a power reduction switch to freely move down to 20- and 1-watt modes. The high-headroom design delivers unwavering tone to any 8- or 16-ohm cabinet setup, with variable USA, UK, and Flat voicing to accompany the five different valve response options. An ergonomic formfactor lets you painlessly switch between KT88, 6L6, EL34, 6V6, and EL84 distinctive valve responses, boasting an impressive array of tonal versatility. A sixth Linear response option can be used with the Flat voicing for crystal-clear amplification with an external amp modeler. Engineered with universal voltage, the AMPED1 can be used worldwide, without worry, from 100V to 240V ~ 50/60Hz.

Optimized connectivity for your setup

With so many ways to play, practice, and record, it only makes sense that the AMPED1 would be able to accommodate those needs. Effects can be used in parallel or in series, and a 3.5mm MIDI input allows for endlessly customizable control patterns to be integrated with the pedal. Two 9V DC outputs host a total of 500mA to reliably power supplementary pedals, with dedicated output and adjustments for the CabRig. Moreover, the USB-C port ensures low-latency connectivity for studio use, eliminating the hassle for excessive wiring and rigging and fully ready for 4-channel audio.

Superlative sound design

Dissatisfied with the limits of Impulse Response approaches, engineers at Dept. 10 rose to the challenge of providing extensive sound design options without an overwhelming UI, resulting the CabRig system. Three onboard slots are available to store user presets, with over 250 mic and cab combinations to choose from, including options for room mics, microphone types, axis orientation, and a master EQ. Blackstar’s free Architect software can be used to access even greater levels of detail to fine-tune your cab with cutting-edge digital modeling technology. The CabRig also features its own level adjustment, line output, and D.I. XLR out, making for flexible recording, gigging, and design use without sonic compromise.

Don’t give up to soon

This is a great pedal platform amp. I don't have it on my board I use it like a head on top of my cab. I have tried a couple of amp in a box like Iridium by Strymon and the Dutches by Victory but was not very impressed. The Iridium was ok but still generic sounding. I have used Blackstar amps for about 10 years and really like the tone and quality. At first I could not dial in anything that sounded like a tube amp on the amped 1. I set it to the side and went back to my club 40. I was having trouble with the software so my wife finally figured it out and we loaded some different cabs and it started getting better. She will be honest and tell me if it sounds like trash or not and she said it's getting better. I'm going through FOH and a cab on stage with a V30 and it sounds really good. I use the Uk setting at 20 watts with all knobs at about 12. My chain consists of a tuner, boss ns2, MXR phaser, Friedman Golden Pearl then what seems to be the key boss SD 1. After that Revv G3. In the loop 5150 chorus, Keely reverb and delay, and last a Blackstar dept 10 boost works great last pedal in fx loop. This sounds great. With my Gibson I use the KT 88 and my Strat with Hot Rail pup in bridge I use the EL34. THIS was a good purchase it is now my go to amp. If you experiment you will find something you like. Blackstar makes good stuff and Sweetwater is an amazing place to buy music stuff and yes our church is rocking! I grew up in the 80's scene and converted in late 1990s. My style was already there so I learned to make it work for Jesus!

AMPED 1 is Clutch!!

Like any piece of new gear, you have to learn the ins and outs, figure out what you like the most, and then make it work for you.

For the price, the AMPED 1 is hard to beat.
When you put it up against a SD PowerStage, it really holds its own and then some.

It is very flexible.
For DI-applications, the built-in responses are excellent.
Especially once you are able to get familiar with the Architect software.
And as a straight poweramp, the feel is very nice.
I used it with a variety of speakers and was able to find a sweetspot with each speaker pretty quickly.

I love this thing to bits...it's super fun to play, feels great, and the designers kept it simple to use.

Amped 4 sure

This is a very versatile tool, like a blank pallet if you will. I tried each of the tube selections on both British and US settings and was easily able to dial in "exactly" what I wanted as far as a clean and edge of breakup tones. It takes dirt and boost pedals seamlessly and I am very impressed with the "effects loop", my delay and reverbs sound lush and rich. My pedalboard is keeping this and i made room for an Eventide H90 too! Very happy always with the service I receive from Sweetwater.

Sounds great Solves many problems

This has been a fantastic upgrade for my board. Able to go from late night practice to full band at a gig. Now just a board, a cabinet and a guitar for the gig.

Pros. Sounds really good. Sounds better and cleaner as you use the higher wattage settings.
Many sound options. Wether or not they emulate the tubes exactly I can't answer, but scrolling through the input and output sections you should find something that works. Just listen don't look at the letters.
Reverb with options. Don't need to waste a pedal slot. ( IMO there should always be a basic reverb in an amp, even a pedal one )
I use the Preset as a lead boost. Just the same settings you're using with a drop more level on the gain knob. The company doesn't say this but it works a treat! Again saves a pedal slot.
TWO pedal power outs!!!!!! All pedal amps should have this. Heck all pedals should have a power through.
The software seems to work fine.
Construction looks solid.

Cons. Pedal loop is a TRS cable. Limited options for right angle cables
The UK side was a bit too dirty for my taste. The US side is the clean side
A bit large but fits on my board fine.
All the recording /XLR outs are on the right side. this will probably mean reconfiguring your board to have this on the upper right side instead on the left. Someone missed this in the corporate meeting

Blackstar amped 1

This is a great sounding amp with many ways of hooking it up, I love that I can run a cab and go through the PA as well. I was skeptical about the loop but it works quite well and it works well with pedals and best of all I can fit it on my pedal board
