An Assortment of All-analog Effects

Digital multi-effects units have become a standard among gigging guitarists for their all-encompassing tonal flexibility, but what if you’re after the old-school sound that only analog can provide? Enter the Morley AFX-1, an all-analog multi-effects unit that combines four classic Morley circuits into a single stompbox! Analog delay, chorus, dual-setting distortion, and switchless optical wah are all available at the click of a footswitch, with dedicated LEDs to clearly indicate which effects are currently engaged. Plus, a stereo FX loop is built into the AFX-1 between the chorus and distortion, allowing you to add even more effects to the AFX-1’s signal chain without mucking up your tone. Add in the stereo outputs and road-ready steel enclosure, and the AFX-1 is a monster of an all-in-one effects unit, purpose built for the musician who demands both modern versatility and vintage-style analog tone!

Switchless optical wah

The core of the AFX-1 is the optical switchless wah — an absolute Morley classic! The electro-optical design completely eradicates the scratchiness that can plague worn-down pots, keeping your tone free from unwanted noise. Plus, a switchless design allows you to switch on the wah at a moment’s notice, engaging when you step on the wah and switching to bypass when you step off. Lastly, Morley’s signature glow-in-the-dark logo on the footpad shines bright and clear — no more missed stomps on dark stages!

All-analog dual-setting distortion

Much more than your typical analog distortion pedal, the AFX-1’s Diamond Distortion section is loaded with a massive range of tonal possibilities. Industry-standard bass, mid, and treble controls offer an impressive level of tone sculpting, but the real stars of the show are the extensive gain controls, with both a pre- and post-gain knob to dirty up your signal. What's more, the hi-gain switch kicks up the heat even further with a secondary gain section — Sweetwater guitarists find that this 2-switch approach provides an effortless way to toggle between milder rhythm tones while reserving the all-out saturation for your leads!

Time-based tonal tools

The AFX-1 features not one, but two time-based effects to give your tone a bit of color. Crystal Chorus is a straight-ahead analog chorus in the best possible way — lush, spacious, and swirling, taking you from a slight warble to shaking vibrato with two simple knobs. Next, the Emerald Echo gives you up to 300ms of analog delay that’s perfect for slapback or lead-enhancing ambience. Best of all, these time-based tools can be used to give your tone a massive three-dimensional quality via the AFX-1’s stereo output!

Morley AFX-1 Analog Multi-effects Pedal Features:

  • All-analog multi-effects unit featuring four circuits from classic Morley pedals
  • Switchless optical wah to give your tone a vocal-like musicality
  • Analog distortion with a vast array of tone-shaping controls
  • Lush stereo analog chorus that ranges from a seasick warble to full-on vibrato
  • 300ms analog delay is perfect for slapback or to give your lead tones ambience
  • Dedicated LED for each effect for easy identification onstage
  • Mono and stereo outputs
  • Effects loop between the distortion and chorus to add more effects while keeping your signal clear
  • Tough steel enclosure with a sleek chrome finish
  • Classic Morley glow-in-the-dark logos

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Morley AFX-1

Strong chassis, nice chorus and echo. Giving the distortion an eight. The Wah is outstanding.

This kicks butt!

Brings edge and depth to the tone. Great 4 in 1 pedal!
Music background: Working musician. Guitar/Vocals.
Rated 3/5

Great unit, but

Here are the pros and cons. You decide for yourself.

Pros
- Simple old school analog effects
- Great sounding distortion
- Great sounding Chorus
- Great sounding Echo
- Effects loop a plus
- Lighter than expected
- Built to last

Cons
- Too much noise with both distortion on
- Need to run a noise gate with it
- Volume drops a lot when chorus & distortion both are on
- Volume drops when echo is on
- No level control for echo & chorus
- Slight break up in tone with chorus on clean sound

I guess if your playing soft rock it should be alright, but with heavier stuff must have noise gate with all the hum and hiss going on. I bought it as a stand alone unit, but need to add more effects to make it work properly.
Music background: Hard Rock, Metal, & Alternative
