Reference-quality Conversion with Femtosecond Clock

The RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition offers world-class conversion, thanks to its ultra-stable femtosecond clock, AK4493 chip, and specs that eclipse its predecessor. This AD/DA converter can tackle sample rates up to 768kHz, convert between multiple digital formats, and record and play back DSD audio. You can also use the ADI-2 Pro FS R as a top-tier double headphone amplifier. Keeping an eye on your levels and parameters is a breeze, thanks to a high-resolution display. Beyond that, you can use the ADI-2 Pro FS R's USB port to create a high-end AD/DA front-end for your Mac, PC, or iOS device. Complete with extended support for RME’s Multi-Remote Control (MRC), the ADI-2 Pro FS R is an exceptional AD/DA converter for engineers and passionate audiophiles alike.

Ultra-stable SteadyClock FS technology

RME's SteadyClock has earned many accolades, by virtue of its flawless, low-jitter clocking. This technology has always been RME's secret weapon, ensuring that the internal clocks on their devices sound exactly the same as using an external one. The ADI-2 Pro FS R's SteadyClock FS takes self-jitter even lower, improving its analog PLL circuit and referencing both Direct Digital Synthesis and PLL to a low-phase-noise quartz crystal. In fact, the ADI-2 Pro FS R's self-jitter reaches levels that are usually only available in master quartz clock mode, even while running in PLL mode. Thanks to this updated circuit, the ADI-2 Pro FS R reaches jitter specs as low as a femtosecond. Just to put it in perspective, that's 1/1,000,000,000,000,000 of a second!

Quality construction that translates into world-class sound

The ADI-2 Pro FS R is among the finest AD/DA converters we've heard here at Sweetwater — and it all starts with quality construction. Its main circuit board features a 10-layer design with custom copper thickness. Its internal power supply employs a low-noise design that delivers separate power to its headphone outputs. In use, the ADI-2 Pro FS R exhibits an exceptional signal-to-noise ratio, minimal harmonic distortion, and a high slew rate via selected SoundPlus op-amps. Its entire analog signal path is fully symmetrical, balanced, and DC-coupled. The only capacitors in the ADI-2 Pro FS R's signal path perform DC protection at its analog input sockets and have been carefully selected to avoid any sonic impact.

A myriad of analog and digital I/O options

Whatever signal you feed the RME ADI-2 Pro FS R, it can take it. A pair of servo-balanced XLR/TRS combo analog inputs makes connecting your studio gear a breeze. Two separate balanced and unbalanced outputs on XLR and TS are also on tap, as are two Extreme Power headphone outputs. The ADI-2 Pro FS R's optical S/PDIF I/O also accommodates ADAT and AES signals. Connect your Mac to the ADI-2 Pro FS R's USB port to use it as a 6-in/8-out audio interface — no drivers required. Or use it under Windows with RME's rock-solid MADIface driver for full WDM and ASIO compatibility. Its USB port is also compatible with your iOS devices.

Loaded with unique features for unparalleled performance

The ADI-2 Pro FS R has more features than your average AD/DA converter. You get access to Bass/Treble controls, a binaural crossfeed function, adjustable loudness filter, selectable AD/DA filters, four discrete I/O reference levels, auto reference level setting, auto balanced headphones mode, and more. Professional engineers will appreciate the ADI-2 Pro FS R's onboard M-S processing, stereo width, and phase reversal parameters. You also get a spectral analyzer and 30-band bi-quad filtered analysis tool. Best of all, everything is easily visible on the ADI-2 Pro FS R's high-resolution display.

Extreme Power headphone outputs deliver top-quality sound

The RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition is worth the price of admission for just the headphone amplifiers alone — they sound that good. Every ounce of this converter's quality D/A conversion translates to the headphone outputs. Thanks to RME's Extreme Power design, you'll experience 0.1-ohm output impedance, a +22dBu maximum output level, and 1.5 watts of output power per channel. Each headphone output is completely separate, features balanced operation, and boasts the same 120dBA signal-to-noise ratio as the ADI-2 Pro FS R's line outputs. Even with sensitive headphones, hum or noise won't spoil your listening experience. The Extreme Power design also incorporates current limiting, power surveillance, overload detection, and DC protection. Low power and high power modes are also provided to match your headphones.

Extended Multi-Remote Control support offers unparalleled ease of use

The ADI-2 Pro FS R includes extended support for RME’s Multi-Remote Control (MRC). Benefit from wireless access to standby on/off, volume, balance, bass/treble, input selection (optical, coaxial, USB), mute, loudness, and EQ. You also get four user-programmable buttons that supply you with access to 52 different functions and commands — talk about flexible!

Exceptional piece of audio equipment...I'm blown away

I'm using this digital converter as a DAC and equalizer for room correction with a TASCAM CD200BT CD player as a transport. The details I am hearing is nothing short of amazing. I also use a Schiit Bifrost (in another work area) and I have to say the RME outperforms the Bifrost by quite a sonic margin. With all the sound editing tools you get in the RME, it is an incredible value. BUY IT. Sweetwater service is first rate.

Prestine sounding device for headphone mixiers

This is my 1st review after many purchases. I'm giving this review for individuals who are in similar situations where the best mixing environment is via a set of headphones.

I am using the RME with a pair of Audeze MM-500s. It sounds fantastic! This device has crossfeed built into it which simulates a similar experience as listening to music from a pair of monitors.

The only issues I've experienced is it gets pretty warm. The digital interface has a bit of a learning curve, but I was able to figure things out after about 20-30 minutes. And I wish they would've included a USB cable in the box.

What I love about this device is how you can enjoy the magic directly from the headphone outputs. I own the Lyra 1, and the headphone Amp of that device doesn't offer the same listening experience through a pair of headphones as the stereo outputs.

It's size makes the RME very portable. Just throw it in your backpack with your laptop and make moves.
Overall, this device has superceded my expectations regarding sound quality.

Hooked on RME

This is used as a dac and all the features of adjusting the music is great. Have used as a stand alone dac/preamp as well and am amazed at how it naturally picks up its use and adjusts on its own. A lot of features and options. The dac portion sounds great to me and represents true sound with no coloration of which I was after. Cannot praise this enough!

I don't really like this thing...........

I LOVE IT!!! Everyone online raves about the DA and the headphone amp on this thing, along with all of the filter options and flexibility and they are so right!!! My RME Babyface (original circa 2012) always had big problems driving my 250 ohm Beyerdynamic DT 880 pro's and I had to use an external (cheap and crappy) headphone amp. This has headroom to spare on the headphone amp when I use those and sounds WAY better. The DA is amazing to my monitors as well. What I wasn't expecting, since no-one seems to ever discuss it, is how amazing the AD part of this unit is. I recorded into it with the same chain I was before, at the same volume. I had to check numerous times to make sure I matched the volumes correctly, it sounds like someone took a towel off of the microphone, MUCH MUCH CLEARER!! Not a cheap unit, but it gives so much for the price and is definitely worth it. You won't be getting mine used anytime soon though, it's a KEEPER!

RME, 15 years running and why use anything else?

My first purchase was the FF 800. Amazing sound at a bargain as RME was just coming onto the scene. Then I upped the game with the UFX+. The DSP per channel is flexible and incredible. They are fantastic together. Now this will be the crowning jewel. Great support, rock solid performance, prepare to be transported to another level of awareness. These are sonic beasts, just go for it. You will be absolutely thrilled.
