What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

clarity is there, no booming bass, but if the song has bass it produces very clean and clear

So the clarity is indeed there. When i say there is no bass I mean there is no extra bump to it. If your song is heavy on the bass the headphones will replicate it. Things like the bass played by a bass guitar, you will also be able to distinguish the pitch of each pluck as well rather than it being just a vague booming bass guitar sound.

This is not a travel headphone though, the plastic does warm up in the sun pretty fast. This headphone is also not intended outside either, when the wind blows you can hear the static in the headphone this is in contrast to the sony 7520 i previously owned that worked well wherever I went.

For build quality it is plastic, but feels decently durable. I've been spoiled by the hard magnesium body of the sony 7520 and the headband minus the padding was pretty much indestructible, these on the other hand i feel like they might snap. With good care though, they should be okay.

main thing i love about these headphones over the 7520 is the fact that the padding is thick and plush and so the driver does not press against my air which causes my eears to get sore. I also like the pressure is about the same too. I remember the senn hd280 i use to have was a head vice that would give me head aches.

The default earpads have a lot of room for yours ears without any worry.

I agree that this headphone is not for casual listning where you just get a nice bump to rock to, but i aso feel like you can also enjoy your music better.

the cord it comes with is super soft not like the stiff braided ones. Can't speak to the durability yet, but hopefully that means it's more durable and not less.

Some how i feel like the 7520 sound was a bit better, where the audio just felt a lot fuller and more realistic in reproduction, like the 7520 made it amost like you were there even if a closed headphone, but at 200 instead of 400, the audio quality is totally fine. This could have been the fact that the 7520 had the driver touching my ear, and having a pocket from you ear from the driver will definitely alter the sound as well.

Nice!

Wow, these sound great! They are comfortable to wear. The bass is deep and well-defined without being overdone (such as with Beats), and the mids and highs are smooth and accurate without being harsh or boring. I am sure there are better headphones out there if you spend a lot more money, but these are so accurate that you could mix with them. I can't say that about the other "gourmet" headphones I've tried (AKG, Sennheiser, Grado, Beyer Dynamic, Audio Technica).

Can the right headphones make you sing better? Hear me out on this one...

In my modest studio setup I have used several "industry standard" headphones for some time. I acquired a set of these A150's in the middle of a recent project right as I was beginning to track my lead vocals for a new song. Sonically, I could immediately tell there was something special going on with these compared to my other cans - even in a basic headphone mix for tracking, the imaging was just different. You know the trick of dropping off one headphone side to hear your pitch better while singing - well, in this session, I never felt compelled to do that. Comfort should also be mentioned. This was a long session and by the end there was no fatigue. Now, here is what I mean when I say they might make you sing better. As I started to mix the track, I always evaluate pitch in my DAW and make corrections when necessary (don't lie, you do it too!). Evaluating each song section closely, I found myself making very few corrections compared to past sessions. Trust me, my singing didn't get that much better, I truly believe it had something to do with hearing better overall pitch & timing via these A150 headphones. Yeah, these are cool.

The Best Reference Headphones I've Ever Used

It's hard to make really great headphones, especially with all the competition out there. And as a retired broadcast veteran, DJ, and lifelong producer and musician, I've used many pairs. There's simply nothing out there with the kind of sound quality for the price on the market today, like the A150s! First, they are luxuriously comfortable, and don't fall prey to the "headphone fatigue" that many headphones do. I've worn these for exceptionally long mixing and recording sessions and don't get the headache that you can get from some headphones. Second, the sound quality is unbelievable. The streo imaging is wide and full, the highs are crystal clear and the lows are deep, powerful, but tight, with no muddiness. And the mids punch through with perfection. For many years I have been looking for headphones to use as a reference against my studio monitors, but have never found anything that I could afford that would give me a clean, accurate comparison. Over the past few months I find myself using these headphones more than I use my monitors, giving me the ability to work on projects late into the evening (so I don't bother anyone sleeping!). The most amazing thing I've encountered is when I bring my mix to a second or third source (like my car stereo or a small reference speaker), I'm hearing the same thing I heard in the headphones! They are a great tool for audio production, and I'm shocked this is the first review of these headphones! In addition to using these for references on my own mixes, I've found these to be a great pair of headphones to listen to my music collection, and my old favorites sound sharper, more balanced and fuller than I ever have heard. In fact, there are times when the mix is almost too pristine, and I find myself getting caught up hearing things I haven't heard before on albums I've listened to for decades! If you are looking for a professional quality pair of studio reference headphones, look no further. The A150s are the best.

Good Headphones

I am not an expert in sound but I know what I like. I was willing to pay double for what I purchased these for, but after an hour and half at the listening station at Sweetwater I chose these headphones over other brands costing up to twice as much. Plenty of treble, plenty of bass, nice midrange. Of course it makes a difference what your source is, but these sounded good with iPhone, Dell laptop, old JVC receiver. Very comfortable for long term wearing and listening.

Getting the most for the money isn't just a big deal for our customers, it's also what the artists and engineers at Sweetwater look for when we're shopping for our own gear. That's why we're such fans of Audix microphones. Early on, we discovered must-have Audix mics such as the handheld OM2, the tight and punchy D6 kick mic, and the super-versatile i5. You'll also find Audix specialty hardware like CabGrabbers and D-Vice mic holders in our studios and live rigs. Their drum mic bundles offer amazing value, while our house of worship customers love their MicroBoom line for miking choirs. No matter the application, Sweetwater is happy to recommend the right Audix gear for your needs.
