Classic Semi-hollowbody Electric from Gibson

Get a true American original with the Gibson Custom 1959 ES-335 Reissue. Introduced in '58 as Gibson's first semi-hollowbody electric guitar, the ES-335 has continued to win over legions of devoted players for 60 years. Featuring a beautifully resonant maple/poplar/maple body, solid mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, and a pair of Custombucker Alnico III pickups, this vintage instrument puts out one-of-a-kind tone that is ideal for jazz and blues but can translate easily into rock as well. Many guitarists at Sweetwater have fallen in love with the Gibson Custom 1959 ES-335 Reissue. Get your hands on one, and you will too.

Legendary tone from alnico humbuckers

The Custom Shop Custombucker pickups in the ’59 ES-335 Reissue are catnip for tube amplifiers. Each with its own volume and tone controls, these unpotted pickups will let you nail chimey country licks as easily as you dial in searing rock tones. The Alnico III magnets give you classic hollowbody-style tones for everything from warm jazz to dirty blues. And handwired with CTS audio taper pots and paper-in-oil capacitors, you’ll have nearly endless tone-shaping control at your fingertips.

Handcrafted by Gibson's elite luthiers

Meticulously handcrafted by Gibson’s elite Custom Shop luthiers, the 1959 ES-335 Reissue — like every Gibson Custom guitar —receives an ultra-precise Plek Pro setup, which optimizes the fretboard and nut for incredibly accurate intonation and a “just right” feel. And fine details like the hide glue fingerboard fit and the 17-degree headstock angle not only add to the amazing tone and feel of this guitar, they remain true to the Gibson’s illustrious ES Series legacy. The vintage-style nitrocellulose lacquer finish is significantly thinner than today’s polyurethane finishes, allowing the guitar to “breathe.” Nitro finishes not only look amazing; they also enhance the instrument’s tonal qualities. This guitar has the look (and feel) of a lovingly cared-for classic — one that will only improve with age.

Vintage Original Sheen finish, for the look and feel of a classic

Gibson Custom's Vintage Original Sheen finish option comes standard on Custom Shop Historic Reissue models. The VOS finish package includes lightly aged parts that imparts an authentic vintage patina. The nitrocellulose finished it buffed to a light matte appearance, giving a look and feel of a guitar that has been lovingly played and cared for over the years.

Gibson Custom 1959 ES-335 Reissue Features:

  • Maple/poplar/maple semi-hollowbody shouts, barks, and howls blues and rock
  • Centerblock design adds sustain and controls feedback
  • Specially calibrated Custombucker Alnico III pickups deliver vintage PAF-like tone
  • Authentic ’59 Medium "C" neck profile with rolled binding and Indian rosewood fingerboard
  • 2 volumes, 2 tones, 3-way toggle switch for a wide array of tone-shaping possibilities
  • Adjustable ABR-1 bridge with plated brass saddles enhances tone and playability

If only it had a better Case ....

I've been looking for a 335 for several years and almost bought a couple of others but always held off. I've been playing for 45 years and I'm not getting any younger and I saw this one that had all of the specs I was looking for, the Alnico III pickups and most importantly the '59 neck. So I called my enabler Justin Sunday down at Sweetwater and he set me up with a very good deal that I could not talk myself out of and overnight shipping to keep me from getting time to back out. Thank you Justin!!!
I've had the guitar for 3 months now and I've played it against each of my 8 guitars, Les Paul, SG, LPjr., 3 Telecasters, an Eric Johnson Stratocaster and '62 RI Strat. thru all my amps in various situations and it has won out. From home to stage she is my favorite even beating out my '52 RI Tele. The neck is comfortable, there isn't a bad fret or dead spot to be found, the pickups are to die for. And working the volume and tone knobs yield more voicings than any of my Gibson guitars could dream of. My only complaint is the case *SUCKS*. It is not a hardshell case, it is closer to a poodle case. And for what I spent on the guitar I hate to buy another case but I guess that's what I'm going to do. The last thing I want is a cracked headstock.
