Setting the Standard Since 1981

Originally designed to replicate the feel of a tortoiseshell pick, Dunlop’s Tortex line has since outgrown its iconic tortoise mascot, revolutionizing the world of guitar picks for over 40 years. Before Tortex picks came along, guitar players could only choose from a limited selection of plectrums that often came in only three ambiguous sizes: light, medium, and heavy. Jim Dunlop sought to provide a solution by arming players with a complete range of thickness standardized to the 100th of a millimeter, and easily recognizable by Dunlop’s signature color-coded system. Excellent durability, perfect grip, and snappy tone have made Tortex the industry-standard pick for guitar players around the world. Whether you’re a pro or just beginning your musical journey, you can be sure that there’s a Tortex pick for you!

Signature Tortex composition and durability

Jim Dunlop strove to provide guitar players with the best pick possible, constantly refining his materials and processes until he arrived at Tortex’s signature composition. Tortex picks are designed with a grip-enhancing surface that naturally feels “just right” — there's enough texture to firmly stay in your fingers without ever feeling sticky. Constructed from a highly durable plastic called Delrin, Tortex is resistant to the constant wear and bending that guitar picks are subjected to; in other words, they have a long shelf life even with heavy playing. And of course, Tortex picks are world renowned for delivering a clear and articulate sound that’s ideal for electric, acoustic, and bass guitar playing across the entire spectrum of musical genres.

Dunlop Flow ergonomics with a Tortex twist

Guitarists at Sweetwater are big fans of the improved ergonomics, beveled edge, and wide-angle sharp tip that define the Flow series of picks — especially when they’re made from Dunlop’s classic Tortex! Originally made out of Ultex, this version of the Flow pick is perfect for players who not only love the aforementioned benefits of the series, but also prefer the strong grip and sheer reliability of Tortex.

Dunlop Tortex Flow Pick Features:

  • Dunlop's Flow shape delivers fantastic ergonomics with classic Tortex tone and reliability
  • Highly durable and resistant to everyday play wear
  • Tortex signature grip-enhancing surface
  • Bright and articulate tone that works equally well for electric, acoustic, and bass guitar

New Favorite Picks
I had always been somewhere between loving the standard Tortex picks and the Jazz III/Jazz III XL. These have the feel and snap of the tortex picks while also having the tip and the positive release of the Jazz III picks. This means they're just as at home strumming as they are picking and chugging. I've got a couple different thicknesses and they're all great.

This is a 5 star pick, the new cheap ink stinks.
I love this pick, and have it in two other sizes .73 and 1.35. Whatever Dunlop is doing with the black ink, needs to be reverted. Just like the black ink on the .73 it melts and smears all over my fingers turning them black along with the pick. The black ink doesn't smear or fade on my TIII or Tortex Standards (which I've had for a while ~1 year+ so I can't tell you if that is an issue on all picks made this year or not. I have to take extra steps to get the black ink off with 95% Isopropyl alchohol, just to make them usable without irritation. I had to do the same alchohol wipe on the .73mm as well. Despite having to do this, I still highly recommend it, based on the Tortex & shape. I really hope that Dunlop get's this figured out before I have to order my next batch of picks.
