Two Leading EVH Amp Tones in One Head

EVH's latest mini head, the stealthy 5150 III LBX-S, brings the first-gen LBX I's pedal-loving Green channel and the second-gen LBX II's fire-breathing Red channel to a single 15-watt lunchbox head. And whether you're leading a blues trio onstage or pummeling your tubes into submission in the studio, the LBX-S packs rich rock tones in wide supply and enough output to drown out a drummer. The LBX-S's four ECC83S (12AX7) preamp tubes take you from satiny cleans to a bluesy rock crunch and an aggressive mid-scooped metal chug. Meanwhile, its twin EL84's make the lightweight LBX-S lunchbox a perfectly competent option for club gigging and cranking up at home. In addition to a shared 3-band tone stack, you also get those oh-so-vital Presence and Resonance controls that have become a staple of the modern metal head. There's also an FX loop for reverb and delay pedals. And you can even simulate Ed's variac trick with the power switch, taking the amp down to 3-3/4 watts to run power tubes full-tilt without taking your head off. If you're as big of fan of the LBX series as us at Sweetwater, you're going to love all the EVH 5150 III LBX-S mini amp head has to offer.

Green & Red 5150 Channels

EVH's LBX-S borrows the Green and Red channels from two generations of 5150 III mini heads. The Green (clean) channel offers a spanky clean tone that has become popular for everything from rock to country. It's also a fantastic pedal platform for dirt boxes and modulation units. The Red (Full Burn) channel picks up where the Green channel leaves off, supplying a no-compromises mid-scooped molten metal tone that requires no additional stomps in your signal chain. Eddie would be so proud. If you're looking for a lunchbox amp with some serious firepower, the 5150 III LBX-S is it.

The fabled "Brown Sound"

Eddie's "Brown Sound" may be the most sought-after guitar tone of all time. You get a headstart on capturing that sound with the EVH 5150 III LBX-S, an amp designed in partnership with the man himself. You'll find both the Clean and Full Burn channels from the larger 5150 III designs. And at 15 or 3-3/4 watts, you can take those larger-than-life sounds to the stage or jam in your own home.

15 all-tube watts with a 1/4 power switch

There is no denying the power and glory of a screaming high-wattage amplifier head. But this design is simply not always a viable option for every player. There's the weight, the price, and of course, the sweet spot that often doesn't play well in every band setting. Fortunately, EVH has found a way to get the punch of its famed 5150 III amps into this smaller EL84-loaded head. Fifteen watts is great for almost any gig, but run the amp at 3-3/4 watts when you're rocking out at home and still want great tone at lower volumes.

Built to rock hard

Eddie Van Halen is as legendary for the punishment he puts his gear through as he is for his genre-defining guitar work. He personally ensures every design boasting his name is made from the highest-grade components for the best sound and durability. You'll find the 5150 III LBX-S's chassis to be incredibly stable and knobs and switches that offer a reassuring feel. Even the amplifier's JJ preamp and power tubes are top-of-the-line. Carrying the EVH logo, you know the 5150 III LBX-S is going to be a quality piece of gear.

EVH 5150 III LBX-S 15-watt Tube Amp Head Features:

  • 15-watt high-gain lunchbox tube amplifier
  • Designed around the Van Halen sound
  • Stealthy black steel/aluminum chassis
  • Blends the Red and Green channels from 2 generations of LBX 5150 III amps
  • 3-3/4-watt power scaling for getting cranked tones at lower volumes
  • 2 footswitchable channels: Green (clean) and Red (Full Burn)
  • Footswitch included
  • 2x JJ EL84 power tubes
  • 4x JJ ECC83S (12AX7) preamp tubes
  • Resonance and Presence controls
  • Effects loop

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

Note: While demo items from EVH do not include the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation warranty, you can shop with confidence knowing that this item is backed and covered by Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!

Does exactly whats it is supose to

Great lil amp , I also have a ENGL FB 25 and they both sound great the EVH has a little bit more gain which is exactly what I was looking for and is suprisingly clear at high gain, for home pract or small gig pract is amazing but if looking to use in clubs or out the 50 watt would be a great choice also, but basically does exactly what it's meant to , gives you a great rich tone with endless gain and distortion and after buying from most of the top online distributing guys , sweetwater is heads and shoulders above the rest in service and sales , the best company out there and thanks to Domenic Saracina , best sales guy there

Beastly Little Guy

So I had been staring at this on back-order for what seemed like forever before calling my Sweetwater sales rep, Kent, to see what the deal was. As per usual he was enormously helpful in tracking the item down and finding out when new pre-orders would be filled. In all truth it showed up quite a bit faster than I was expecting. They don't charge you for anything until a pre-order is shipped which is great and they keep you up to date with e-mails and sometimes even a phone call to make sure you received everything and that it's in good order. The amp itself sounds great on both channels and was well worth the wait. It's my first EVH amp so I don't have a huge knowledge-base to compare it to but for the home studio application this amp checks every box for me. Dual knobs for the eq to seperate the two channels as they did on the gain/volume knobs would have been a great but in a home studio setting where I'm not actively bouncing between channels this wasn't a big deal to me. I will say that there doesn't seem to be any difference in volume with the 1/4 power setting switched on. Maybe it just doesn't max out as high on the 1/4 power setting? I haven't been brave enough to try it out as it's plenty loud enough to drive a speaker cab for recording.

Best Kept Secret

This small amp head made me sell my Synergy rig. It's that good and I am NOT a metal guy. I only play classic rock and have owned loads of other tube amps. Good green channel and versatile red channel not just for metal belying its aggressive appearance. Gain below noon you get classic rock crunch, above noon you get all the dirt you want. Cleans up well with your guitar's volume knob. Sounds amazing at whisper quiet volume levels and gets very loud and punchy when you need it to. I feel this Stealth version is superior to the previous 2 iterations in versatility and tone. I feel it is a great value for the price too. Great work EVH. RIP Edward.

Flame thrower

Amazing tone in a lunch box sized amp. I've had a few others and none compare to the raw tone this displays.

EVH 5150iii LBX-S 15

The amount of gain on this lunchbox is incredible. 15 watts is enough for me to play clubs and outside venues. The tone is pure perfection and the green channel will get you some great clean sounds. Paired with my EVH 5150iii 2-12 cabinet is a perfect match. My man Forrest at Sweetwater was a big help too…
