Epic EVH Tone in a 112 Combo!

The 5150 III Combo combines the epic sound of EVH's popular 5150 III Head with a Celestion-loaded 112 cab. This 50-watt amp is packed with seven 12AX7 preamp tubes and two 6L6s in its power section, delivering enough arena-filling volume to rattle the windows and shake the rafters. Three channels with comprehensive tone-sculpting control supply you with plenty of sonic possibilities. Dial up chimey cleans for rhythm work, hit the included footswitch to call up tasty crunch, then hit it again for face-melting lead tones. The 5150 III Combo also features variable power scaling, which drops the power to as low as 1 watt. No matter where you rock, your 5150 III Combo will deliver the tone you need.

The epic sound you'd expect from an EVH amp

The EVH 5150 III Combo gives you bone-crunching, arena-filling volume — and that's without an additional extension cabinet. In effect, the 5150 III Combo gives you the raw power and epic tone of a 50-watt 5150 III Head, plus the sheer stage volume of a matching 112 sealed cab loaded with the sweet sound of a Celestion Special Design vintage speaker. With three footswitchable/MIDI switchable channels to choose from, you're set for any venue when you're rocking an EVH 5150 III Combo.

Built-in DSP reverb gives you one more way to tweak your tone

EVH decided to step up their 50-watt 5150 III Combo by outfitting it with a custom DSP reverb section. One knob is all you need to control this reverb, taking it from a glossy shine to a full-on wet sound. Even cooler, the 5150 III Combo sports MIDI input, allowing you to switch channels or bypass the reverb section remotely or with a standard footswitch.

Variable power scaling preserves your tone even at lower, club-friendly volumes

If you aren't rocking a full-scale arena, then the full 50-watt onslaught of the 5150 III Combo may be a bit too much. Lucky for you, EVH saw fit to equip this guitar amplifier with a variable output control. This scales back the 5150 III Combo's output from anywhere between 50 watts to a single watt — dropping your volume without sacrificing your tone or playing dynamics.

EVH 5150 III Combo Amp Features:

  • 3-channel, 50-watt compact tube guitar combo amp with epic EVH tone
  • Sealed 112 cab loaded with a vintage-style Celestion Special Design speaker
  • Resonance control dials the amp into different cabs
  • Global Presence control and shared 3-band EQ for channels 1 and 2 with an independent EQ for channel 3
  • Channels 1 and 2 feature dual-concentric Gain and Volume controls for independent control of each channel
  • DSP reverb section adds depth and shine to your tone
  • Variable power scaling drops your output from anywhere between 50 watts and 1 watt
  • Selectable output impedance (4, 8, or 16 ohms) makes cabinet matching easy
  • Effects loop for integrating your pedalboard and other processors
  • Headphone jack for private practice
  • Dual parallel speaker output jacks and line output
  • Included 4-button footswitch has 1/4" input jack; also accommodates MIDI footswitching

Exceeded my expectations!

I've owned numerous all-tube and solid state modelers over the years. Some time ago, I was deciding between this amp and the Mesa Mark V 25 for a bedroom amp. I bought the Mesa and sold it about a year later because I just couldn't get good tone at low volumes. I'd since started using nothing but Kemper and was pretty happy. I got the itch for that 'amp in the room' sound and on a whim, bought this EVH 5150 III 50 Watt Combo. I'm extremely happy - and this thing really has far exceeded my expectations. I do a LOT of low volume playing - really almost exclusively and this amp has no problem providing great tone at any volume. I mostly play on the blue or green channels - which are really tasty for cleans and gritty blues rock through 90's hard rock - it really excels here. The high-gain red channel is excellent as well, but had more gain than I'll likely ever use.

I wish I would not have waited to buy this amp. I was trying to think of a reason not to give it 5 stars, but nothing comes to mind.

Very awesome amp

In my previous review I only have the amp 3 stars but this amp does deserve 10 if that was a option. I play metal, and this is a great amp for it, however you may want to change out the speaker if you do plan to use the 1x12 as your main amp. The stock 30 watt speaker was meant for EVHs sound, not necessarily mine. If you are like me and want a very heavy loud sound something like a Vintage 30 60 watt or Creamback will really wake this amp up to its Heavy Metal potential. Worth the extra investment.

Amazing.

Was a bit hesitant at first due to the price. But once I fired this thing up, I knew within 60 seconds that it was my new amp. I'm coming from playing an AXE FX II XL+ (amp emulator with a line out signal that you can patch into a board or PA speaker or whatever, essentially) and I had forgotten the joy of actually FEELING and HEARING a real amp.

I had been interested in EVH amps for a few months now and when I noticed the "power scaling" feature, that's what made me pull the trigger. Having a build in attenuator is a great feature for me because while I might play out with the amp, for me it's mainly going to be used for recording.

If you're even considering this amp, get it. You will thank yourself.

This amp slays.

Got this amp about a month ago and my god it sounds absolutely amazing. The red channel on it sounds brutal, it has so much gain on it that I never turn it past 4. The resonance control is useful to add bass to your tone while keeping it tight, and it's useful if you change rooms to help keep the bass from becoming too boomy. It also works well for any type of tone from nice cleans to off the walls Dimebag Darrell type of tones. The one thing I don't like about it is that it hisses a lot, but that counter acted with a noise suppressor. Definitely worth the money.

SUPERIOR AMP AND SALES REP

I've been playing guitar ever since I was 13 yrs old in bands and have traveled around the world giging and always redefining my tone.
When I got the EVH 5150 combo for my studio it was like a breath of fresh air. I can get any sound I need out of the 3 channels and the reverb isn't to bad either. Justin Sunday is my sales rep and has gone out of his way to handle any concerns I've had in the past 10+ yrs I've been dealing with sweetawter.
