Vintage Style, Classic Tone, and Modern Performance!

Lakland's Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ Ash Bass Guitar gives you many of the qualities that have made its US-made counterpart one of the most popular classic-style bass guitars of all time. Made of solid ash with a flat-sawn maple neck and equipped with both a custom-wound P-style split pickup and a J-style single-coil pickup, the Skyline 44-64 delivers the thump, punch, and drive that define vintage bass tone. Complete with eye-catching fingerboard blocks, binding, and a matching headstock, this 4-string bass guitar is an instant classic! At Sweetwater, when we want the best of vintage style, classic tone, and modern performance, we reach for a Lakland Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ Ash Bass Guitar!

A classic electric bass — reborn!

Modeled after the 1964 incarnation of the world's first 4-string electric bass, the Lakland Skyline 44-64 lets you hold down the low end in style. That's largely in part thanks to Lakland's rendition of the famous split-coil pickup, which gives your electric bass the trademark thump that's powered the backline on many main stages for years — you know the sound we're talking about! On top of that, this Skyline 44-64 comes loaded with a J-style single-coil pickup, giving you access to a whole universe of diverse tones. And with upgrades such as Lakland's impressive dual-access bridge, you'll get the best combination of classic sound and modern stability with your Skyline 44-64 bass.

Skyline Series gives you excellent quality at an affordable price

The Lakland Skyline 44-64 4-string electric bass gives you amazing quality for a great price. That's because the Skyline 44-64, like all Skyline Series basses, is made overseas and finished in Lakland's stateside shop. So, regardless of where it was originally made, each Skyline 44-64 passes through the hands of Lakland's US luthiers long before it finds its way to you. And when you add to that the fact that your Skyline 44-64 comes equipped with the same pickups and hardware as its US-made cousin, you know you're getting an amazing deal.

Lakland: a name serious bass players trust

Lakland instruments, such as the Skyline 44-64, have earned the respect of discerning players and professional bassists worldwide. Blending vintage comfort with contemporary features, Lakland basses are known for their impressive playability. Since the introduction of the company's flagship models in the mid 1990's, Lakland basses are famous for exceptional tone, playability and build quality. When you pick up your Lakland Skyline 44-64, you're joining the ranks of such bass legends as Chris Squire, Bob Glaub, Chris Hillman, Pino Palladino, Bob Babbitt, the late, great Donald "Duck" Dunn — and many, many more.

Lakland Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ Ash Bass Guitar Features:

  • An incredibly versatile, classic-style electric bass that's perfect for a wide range of musical styles and playing techniques

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Bargain Tone for the Price

Amazing tone, great sustain, playability is astounding. The electronics are reliable. Pickups are warm and not over the top. The only complaint I have is that it does not come with a gig bag or a case. Other than that great bass.

Great Bass

This bass is as goods as it gets, I've been Ric man for years but wanted something new and different, so pic one of these up just by the reviews. I am blown away at how nice it plays, and the tones I get are exceptional, Mine needed a little neck adjustment and I'll probably adjust it just a little more, I tried the coated roto sounds just for the heck of it. Nice, Just got out of the studio and the best sound on the recordings is the bass, it's noticeable. Big sound. I've been playing 50 years and I still love great tone and this covers it all

Lakland PJ Bass 44-64 Sweet

I've owned this bass for a year now. I am not a professional player but I have played for 20 years on and off. I've owned a verity of basses , but this one is tops without question. I have a Fender Jazz and Fender Precision bass I used both when I play out (mostly party's and weddings) . So I was interested in trying out a bass that would cover both. From the moment I plugged this bass in I knew it was something special . The pickups have great range ,they cover both those guitars and more . Tone controls are are smooth and easy to use. I love the combination of the jazz neck with the p bass body. But there is something special about the neck, its fast and feels extra light in your hands and the fret work is A+. I love the neck binding and block inlays. The Hipshot tuners are nice. I (it) get lots of compliments when I play this thing. Which nowadays is always. I guess the only downside is I haven't touched my Fenders for a year now. Sorry about the long review. (I could go on and on) Also a shout out to the folks at Sweetwater they were very helpful with the purchase. (And finding me a nice case for it) Thank you.
PS: I agree with the reviewer above . What are the strings Lakland use on this bass ? And how do I get more. They play great.

Just as I'd hoped

Fast, thin neck, vintage style pickups with great growl, through-body stringing for great sustain. Minor quibbles are: Volume pot taper on neck pickup is the kind that gives you most of the volume in the last 1/10th of rotation, and the plastic pickup covers have extremely sharp edges which require a little rounding to be comfortable to rest one's thumb on. All in all, a great and affordable alternative to a vintage P bass

Does your favorite bass always leave you wanting more? That's how it was for many of us at Sweetwater, until we got our hands on Lakland basses. We love these instruments because they take the iconic designs we know and kick them up a notch. When Lakland bass models go through our 55-point Evaluation, Sweetwater guitar techs can't help but notice the consistency of their superior craftsmanship - they're among the finest instruments we see. Speaking of consistency, whether you're picking up a classic 44-94 or a more affordable Skyline series model, you'll love the way these basses play, and whether you prefer boutique passive pickups or premium active electronics, look no further than Lakland.
