The Gold Standard of Cassette Recording

TASCAM's 424-S Blank Studio Cassette Tape was designed for unparalleled audio clarity in studio and home recording scenarios. Its high-bias cobalt tape provides a louder output than standard Type II cassettes, which amounts to an impeccably clear recording experience with little to no additional noise. Although calibrated and intended for use with TASCAM's Portastudio cassette recorders, the 424-S Studio tape is a perfect option for tape-to-tape dubbing and MP3-to-tape conversion in tandem with several cassette recorder and deck models. Recording with cassettes may be uncommon in today's digital world, but when the time comes, Sweetwater studio professionals recommend using a TASCAM 424-S Studio Tape.

TASCAM 424-S High Bias Blank Studio Cassette Tape Features:

  • Type II (cobalt) high-bias blank cassette tape
  • 60 minutes of recording time (30 minutes on each side)
  • 540 Oe coercivity
  • 1700 gauss retentivity
  • For studio and home recording applications

Reviews

Thanks
Looked all over for cassettes to record with my tascam finally I found your offer.
Yeah I still use these
I needed a couple of blank cassettes to record some tunes on and these worked great for me the price is in line with what else is available and they are tascam and made in USA.If you're nuts like me and still use these tapes at least they have them,I like tape got a tascam 4 track from the 70's too sounds awesome
Music background: Retired and jamn
Hold on
Yeah,no,I gave a good review because the first one really worked good that was march,October I go to use the other one I bought and it's trash erratic level and wonky function.I must have got lucky with the first one, since when did tascam put out trash? Boy I'm getting old
Music background: Hate to bash things unless necessary
Sound quality is extremely disappointing
Got this thinking it would be perfect for my Tascam Portastudio 464, but ended up being very disappointed in the sound quality. I compared this against my 20-year old stock of Maxell XLII high-bias cassettes and did some test recordings, and found that the Tascam Studio Master Cassette is extremely susceptible to noise and has a vastly reduced treble response/clarity. There are also random clicks and pops on the recording that seem to originate from nowhere. The Maxell XLII far outclasses the Tascam cassette in all of these aspects, with a much better frequency response & lower noise floor across the board.

I understand the technical limitations of producing new cassette tape formulations in today's day and age, but to market this product as "a perfect fit for the Tascam Portastudio" does feel a bit misleading.
Extremely noisy with dropouts
These are shockingly low quality tapes. Recently did some 4 tracking using one of these in a 424 mk3 and I thought something was wrong with the machine. Extreme hiss, uneven levels, uneven frequency response, click noises similar to a punch in everywhere, all on a brand new unused tape. Then I swapped the 424-s for an XLII. All these problems went away. Since then I've tried two more of these Tascam branded cassettes. One was barely maybe OKish, but quite noisy. The other exhibited all the problems described above. Obviously one expects a lofi sound when using a 4 track, but if you want it to sound like you left the tape in your pocket when you washed your pants, just buy an old used cassette. Don't buy these.
