Perfect for the Warm Audio WA-87

The WA-87 doesn’t come with a case that holds the mic and shock mount, just a smaller box for the mic only, so I came to the Sweetwater site to find a case for it.

The Sweetwater case finder made it easy to zero in on the right size, and this case is perfect for the WA-87 mic, shock mount, and manual. It’s also a great case. The shell is solid, the latches are easy to open but stay securely fastened, and the cubed foam makes it easy to custom fit anything.

Great case. But does not fit the WA-87

SKB Cases are great, you really can't go wrong. However, I saw a review on here that says this case fits the WA-87. It most certainly does not. I believe that person purchased a different size. Luckily, I had another microphone that this case fits perfectly for (SM7B), so I'll be keeping it. And now I'll be measuring my WA-87 before purchasing my next case.

Great small case for small delicate items!

I"m a professional touring drummer, and my gear needs to be packed in good, sturdy cases, because they really take a beating out on the road. I bought one of these cases a couple of years ago to replace the original manufacturer"s case for my In Ear Monitor system. With the cubed foam, I was able to totally customize the interior to hold my beltpack, Y cable, XLR to 1/4" adapters, and a small case to hold two pairs of earphones. There was even enough room to create cutouts for three spare 9v batteries! I like this case so much, I just ordered another one for some more delicate gear that I need to protect. Highly recommended!

Music background: Pro drummer for more than 40 years

Great Protection, but....

Let's start with the good. This case is essentially bombproof. I have no fear of my beloved mics becoming damaged. It will do it's job well, I think. The latches are great, the box is sturdy and well padded. In this aspect these boxes excel.

But the foam is definitely not easy to customize. I ordered 2 of these boxes. The first one came out well enough. No real problems, even if it did take an hour for 2 mic cutouts. I still needed a fine blade of some sort to help out the process. You can't just "pluck" the cubes out. It takes a bit of finagling and patience.

The second box, however was sort of a nightmare. The perforations were even more stubborn than the first, and the foam was not lined up correctly, making this one a mess. A straight line was not possible because the foam wasn't straight, and so each cutout is zig-zagged, making them unseemly despite being quite simple cutouts.

I'm sure the protection will be fine, but when you want it to look clean, and the mechanism given to do that is hit or miss, it's disappointing... I likely could have done just as well or better with standard foam and an electric knife. Their system for making clean cutouts easy did nothing of the kind, and with the second box may have made it more difficult to get a clean cutout than doing it the old fashioned way.

I have a different brand of mic box with perforated foam coming soon and I'll compare it to this one, but as of now I'd be pretty unlikely to buy another one of these at this price.
