Sweetwater Exclusive Les Paul Studio Plus: Ready To Rock

The Gibson Les Paul Studio Plus is celebrated by live performers and session players alike. This Sweetwater Exclusive Gibson Les Paul Studio Plus covers even wider sonic territory with its coil-tappable 490R/498T humbucking pickups. This combination unlocks plenty of creative textures to flesh out musical ideas, from classic cleans and modern crunch to single-coil spank. Spec’d with a stunning AA maple top and eye-popping custom nitro finish, this Studio Plus also benefits from an Ultra-modern weight-relieved body; this reduction of more than a pound in weight provides extra comfort for extended sessions and performances. A feature your fingers will thank you for is the SlimTaper mahogany neck, which re-creates the speed and playability that ’60s Les Pauls are famous for. Dependable Grover Rotomatic tuners keep this axe pitch-perfect and ready to rock. The Gibson Les Paul Studio Plus is a limited edition and only available at Sweetwater — so you’d better reserve yours while you can!

Classic mahogany/maple body is weight relieved for comfort

You can’t deny two fundamental guitar truths: that early Les Pauls were glorious, and they were also heavy. That’s the tradeoff of strapping a solid slab of mahogany and maple to your body. But Gibson has done something special with the modern Les Paul Studio Plus’s Ultra-modern weight-relieved body, which retains classic Les Paul resonance and sustain, while scoring a big reduction in weight. This just means you can enjoy yourself onstage for longer, and drag yourself out of bed more easily the next day.

SlimTaper mahogany neck plays fast and smooth

The neck on this Les Paul Studio Plus is a breath of fresh air. Its SlimTaper profile conforms naturally to the hand for smooth leads up top and fast licks and comfortable chording down low. If you’re looking for the playability of a ’60s Gibson with modern features, we highly recommend checking out the Studio Plus. You're gonna love it.

Plek’d frets for precision playability

This Les Paul Studio Plus feels fast and precise thanks in large part to its Plek fret treatment. Typically reserved for top-dollar custom guitars, this process levels the frets with pinpoint precision, providing you with the most playable fretboard you’re likely to own. Each note rings loud and clear, and the fret edges feel smooth as silk.

Gibson Les Paul Studio Plus Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • Sweetwater Exclusive with custom finish and AA maple top
  • Ultra-modern weight-relieved body allows for longer sets and sessions
  • Mahogany SlimTaper neck plays like a ’60s favorite
  • Rosewood fingerboard with classic Trapezoid inlays

Love this Guitar

No Frills, but still a Gibson

This was a spur of the moment buy. I was looking for something else and ultimately decided against it and instead looked at Les Pauls. I was tempted by the Les Paul Standard '60s, but decided to go with the Les Paul Studio. It lacked the binding of the Standard, had different pickups (although reviews I read tended to like the Studio's 490R and 498T humbuckers), plus it had coil tapping which the Standard did not. Also it was over $ less, so I bought it.

The ability to see photos of particular guitars was helpful. The Heritage Cherry Sunburst does not have a figured maple top, but comparing four separate guitars allowed me to buy the one whose woodgrain was most interesting. As usual with Sweetwater, the guitar arrived in perfect shape. Since the weather is cold and the Les Paul has a nitrocellulose rather than a polyurethane finish, I made sure to follow the instruction on the box's warning label and let it sit for 24 hours before opening so the temperature could rise slowly and avoid cracking the paint.

The Studio model arrives without the toggle switch ring (or "poker chip") installed. I prefer the look of Les Pauls with the ring. It was included with the paperwork and accessories in the soft case, and installing it only took a few minutes. I suggest getting the inexpensive Music Nomad spanner wrench or similar tool for the job rather than risking damage to the guitar's finish by using a pair of pliers or whatever.

I've only had the guitar for a couple of weeks, but so far I am enjoying it. It looks, feels, and sounds great, and is relatively light for a Les Paul.

I did a thing...

This Gibson "Les Paul Studio Plus" really is one of a kind, and I just couldn't help myself. I had been sniffin' around this guitar for some time now, and when Sweetwater came out with the "Sweetwater Exclusive", I caved! I've only had this since yesterday, but it didn't take long to "feel it". It sounds fantastic. I highly recommend this wonderful guitar. The finish is stunning and equal to it's playability. I just can't find the words to how expressive this guitar is. Like always, I'm so grateful to Sweetwater (and Chris Nunley) for all the support throughout the years. Thank you so much for making another dream come true.

Great Gibson

My new guitar sounds and plays like a dream, paint looks perfict in every way with the Sweetwater exclusive Heritage Cherry Sunburst, it's my first Gibson and with many other guitars I own, Epiphone, PRS, Fender and a few others(all sound and play different in there own ways), but this one is night and day on sound a quality

Finally, a Les Paul that weighs less than my Stratocaster!

I've played guitar for over 50 years, and I'd never actually purchased a Les Paul.
Mainly because they normally weigh between 11-16 lbs, and tend to be a back killer.
Imagine my surprise when I found out they now offer several models that weigh the
same (or less than) my Strat! So, I called my rep Joe and worked out a deal on one of
these exclusive "plus" beauties. A week later I'm playing my absolute dream guitar!
Although It came factory PLEKED, I paid Sweetwater to set it up perfectly for me.
(It was worth every penny!) When it arrived it was in tune and ready to gig with!
Gibson has a winner here, and if you love the sound of a vintage Les Paul for a
very reasonable price, pick one of these up before they run out! I'm glad I did!
