Hard and Soft Drum Cases That Don’t Skimp on Protection

A drum case can be either hard or soft. Hard cases typically feature an impact-resistant hard shell with a soft interior to keep drums safe, snug, and supremely protected. These are built to withstand rough handling in vans or during air travel. If you’re only looking for surface protection from scratches, dings, dust, and mildew, any of our more affordable soft bags will do. These have the added benefits of soft integrated handles and fast zipper access. For your stands and pedals, consider a dedicated drum hardware case (or padded drum hardware bag) for increased protection and mobility.

How to Measure for Drum Cases

Before you choose a case, grab a tape measure and verify your shell’s diameter (across the drumhead) and depth (from top hoop to bottom hoop). Most cases and bags are sized to fit your drum’s listed (or “nominal”) dimensions with standard hoops and hardware, but it’s always a good idea to double-check, especially with vintage and import kits. For irregular or in-between sizes, it’s generally safest to size up and fill any extra space with lint-free microfiber towels. Don’t forget to account for hardware or accessories that can add to the overall dimensions, such as oversized hoops, suspension mounts, triggers, mic holders, or external muffling.

Cymbal Cases with Pro-grade Coverage

These same options go for cymbal cases. Hard cymbal vaults are rugged and road-proof, typically with luggage-style tow handles and rolling wheels to haul your entire cymbal collection with ease. Internal pads keep cymbals from touching in transport, eliminating metal-to-metal contact and preserving the life of your pies. Soft cases may feature one or multiple pockets, and at the very least, have internal dividers to act as a barrier against pitting and damage. Bear in mind that soft cymbal cases may not protect your cymbals against cracks, drops, and inversions like hard cases will.
