A Powerful RedNet Interface for Extra-large Setups

Tailor-made for large recording sessions, the Focusrite RedNet PCIeNX unlocks powerful workflows with 128 bidirectional channels at 24-bit/192kHz with ultra-low round-trip latency. This makes the RedNet PCIeNX a top-tier audio interface for immersive formats, including Dolby Atmos, in both commercial music recording and post-production environments. Flexible dual Ethernet RJ-45 ports allow for both switched and redundant operation. You also get support for AES67 and compliance with SMPTE ST 2110 standards. The RedNet PCIeNX is a breeze to install in a space PCIe slot on your workstation or in a Thunderbolt chassis, while its single-cable connection ensures streamlined integration into your Ethernet network.

Designed for immersive audio

Here at Sweetwater, we've found the RedNet PCIeNX to be a powerful audio interface — especially for immersive formats like Dolby Atmos. With 128 bidirectional channels on tap, this audio interface is also an ideal choice for a wide range of performance-critical, high-channel-count Dante situations. Post-production pros working in Dolby Atmos will appreciate the RedNet PCIeNX's easy integration between high-channel-count Dante and Dolby's Renderer. To top it off, the RedNet PCIeNX gives you all this at 24-bit/192kHz with astonishingly low round-trip latency.

Ready for recording

The Focusrite RedNet PCIeNX's usefulness isn't limited to Dolby Atmos. It's also a prime choice for commercial recording studios and music production facilities, thanks to its unparalleled performance, flexibility, and scalability. Those who demand 128 bidirectional channels of uncompressed, high-resolution audio — with negligible round-trip latency — will find the RedNet PCIeNX accelerates Dante-based recording environment workflows.

Reviews

Works well, with a few quirks
I bought this in an effort to reduce my latency, and it has worked well for this. Previously I was running about 20 milliseconds round trip using Dante Virtual Soundcard but with this card I am running about 6 milliseconds. I am using a 96K sample rate.

I was worried that the small cooling fan might be noisy, but I haven't noticed it at all (in other words, it is no louder than the other fans in my computer).

My main complaint is that it passes "regular" internet traffic as well as Dante, and as far as I know, there is no way to turn this off. Since the card connects at Dante's standard 1 gigabit speeds, I wanted to use my existing 10 gigabit network card for non-Dante traffic. The solution I used was to create a separate VLAN in my network for Dante traffic. There was a major learning curve involved, and it took quite a while to get everything working correctly.

There are very bright blinking diagnostic lights on the board itself which shine through the slot cover and are kind of annoying.

You can't set the sample rate from within Dante Controller. You have to use an included software utility (which was not obvious from the documentation). This utility also sets the ASIO buffer size.

It says you can upgrade from 128 Dante channels to 256 for a fee, but when I checked this out, it didn't seem to be possible. I'm happy with 128 channels for now. It's turned out to be really useful to have more channels than was available with Dante Virtual Soundcard.

Finally, it is expensive. But in the end, I'm very glad I bought it.
Music background: Hobbyist recording geek, songwriter, musician

If you're like a lot of the recording engineers here at Sweetwater, then you probably grew up with stories of the legendary Focusrite Forte console and its ISA preamps. Our relationship with Focusrite is extremely tight, and we regularly enjoy everything from the inside scoop on new gear to fish and chips when they stop by Sweetwater. While Focusrite still produces the classic analog preamps, EQs, and compressors we love, our Sales Engineers are just as excited to introduce our customers to their remarkable RedNet network audio platform, and we have worked with Focusrite to outfit studios, churches, venues, and schools with this awesome technology in action. From everyday audio interfaces to full system designs, if you want Focusrite gear, Sweetwater has you covered.
