Acousticore Acoustic Bass Strings

Thomastik-Infeld Acousticore Acoustic Bass Strings are designed for acoustic bass guitars and piezo-equipped solidbody basses. Acousticore strings faithfully capture the warmth, punch, and depth of your instrument into an amp, mic, or PA. These strings are specifically formulated for the modern acoustic bass and deliver a full, lively, long-lasting tone with exceptional intonation up and down the neck. This set features phosphor bronze roundwound on a nylon core, which produces a smooth, organic, “upright” bass tone.

A legacy of quality from Vienna, the City of Music

Sweetwater is proud to offer you Thomastik-Infeld strings. Founded in 1919, Thomastik-Infeld has a long, storied history as a leading manufacturer of strings worldwide. Based in the heart of Vienna, the City of Music, the company today produces over 2,000 various types of strings for bowed and plucked instruments, and their strings have been adopted by world-renowned soloists such as Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman.

I never realized how easy to play my Tacoma CB10 is

I recived my Thomastiks yesterday for my Tacoma CB10 ABG. It had been strung with Elixirs for years and I decided to spend the money and try the Thomastiks. Wow! It plays like butter with no adjustments needed. They said on the packaging that they'll probably take a week or so to break them in but by last evening, they were pretty much holding tuning. Definitely a noticeable improvement.

Sweet surprise

I own a Breedlove Bj350 Sme4 acoustic bass that I purchased in 2011 ,,, clearly the best sounding acoustic bass that I heard or played at the time. However, it’s a huge Mariachi resemblance not the easiest to get comfortable with. I have considered putting the Breedlove on the market , but she’s a beauty so I decided to change the strings , did my search , read reviews , went with the TI ab344. I’m impressed with the tone playing straight acoustic and amplified. It takes a while to get these strings stretched out , as stated on the packing , so be patient, as the best is yet to come. Oh , yes ...Sweetwater is the best! Kudos to Ben and Grace!

A Specialty String for Acoustic Bass

The Acousticore strings feel very unique. The nylon core really stretches. It took a week for them to hold a tuning from one hour to the next. They are flexible even when they're holding the tune if you pull them up or down (as opposed to bending). Since I'm using them on a fretless, this is something to note. The gauge is very light, so that also keeps them relatively loose for the feel. Super easy on the fingers.
Pros: Great feel. No pronounced string noise like many phosphor bronze strings. Suited to soft touch playing styles. I like how they feel on the fretless. While I have played them hard-ish in a small group setting, they are too "loose" feeling to feel safe pulling on them, so I am conscious of playing gently. They claim they're optimized for piezo, but I didn't hear a big difference there.
Cons: Not very loud acoustically, relative to typical phosphor bronze. The light gauge was tricky to set up with enough truss rod tension. Not a ton of harmonics volume. It's hard to review these strings without taking into account the price tag: they are very expensive — twice what other expensive strings cost. I guess that's a con, but if you can afford the experiment, you might like them a lot. They're unlike any other bass string I've used.

Very Nice When They are New

I have a Kelly/Turner B4 acoustic/electric bass with teh D-Tar preamp system. Apparently these strings were made for the preamp so I gave them a shot. Wow, they really made a huge tonal change. The nylon core took some time to get used to the feel and many adjustments had to be made before everything was locked into place.

Now, if you are a fan of the thud of a well broken-in string, then this set is for you as it is designed to give you a simulated stand up bass feel/sound. However, if you like the sound and zip of a new string, you will be dissapointed after about a week. At the price of these strings, you have to make some decisions. Again, this falls to personal preference.

I will try some Da'ddario Bronze and Elixir Bronze (if they ever get them back into porduction) and hope they work well with my D-Tar preamp.
