This 18-inch China Packs Stage Heat and Symphonic Depth

With the Paiste RUDE Novo China chained to the side of your kit, you've got plenty of that classic china character and heaps of projection for distributing your sound to the masses. Paiste describes the Novo China as having a "full, slightly trashy" sound and a "responsive and somewhat soft" feel. And based on our trials, this tracks. But what we also found is that the Novo China — probably owing to its B8 bronze construction and medium-weight profile — really, really cuts in a live setting. Even so, beneath its trashy bite is the roar of a lion, bellowing mysteries of the deep from the caverns of its soul. If you're looking for a heavy-hitting china cymbal with stage heat to match its symphonic flavor, give the Paiste RUDE Novo 18-inch China cymbal from Sweetwater a spin.

RUDE cymbals: punk and metal's preference since 1980

For raw attitude and projection that carries beyond the stage, there's nothing like Paiste RUDE cymbals. Each crash, hat, china, and ride in this series is built with one goal in mind: unbridled musical energy. So whether you sling sludge in the South or craft studio metal in Sweden, take it from Sweetwater: Paiste's RUDE series cymbals have what you're after. Just ask Hatebreed's Matt Byrne or Slayer's Paul Bostaph.

The power and durability to keep up with today's music

Look. Sweetwater has nothing against pretty cymbals. But let's face it — you're not going to take your 20th-century Turkish cymbals out on the road with your punk band. And even if you did, they wouldn't have the attack and projection that Paiste RUDE cymbals can lay claim to. That's because the RUDE series is made from Paiste 2002 bronze (B8) and crafted for the icy overtones, trashy attack, and raw penetration today's aggressive music calls for. Not to mention, they're virtually impossible to break.*

  • Blends stage heat with symphonic depth
  • Forged from 2002 bronze (B8) for attack and projection
  • Random hammering pattern generates a complex, musical tone

Reviews

One of the best China cymbals I have ever had the pleasure of bludgeoning.
I've been playing a long time, 27 years if my math is correct. I've used a lot of china cymbals through the years from Zildjian, Sabian, Meinl, Wuhan, Agazarian and Paiste. I've had multiple models from "beginner" to "professional" from each manufacturer. As far as the "trash sound" goes Wuhan/Agazarian has that locked down, but they are brittle and don't transfer too well in the recording studio.

I had an 18" Paiste Alpha Rock China for years as my main china. I had numerous drummers in the Death/Grind/Hardcore scene (The drummers of Immolation, Desiped Icon, Misery Index and Origin to name a few) compliment the china's sound and ask what I was using. I had that china up until earlier this year. I wanted to go for a fresh sound, something different. I sold ALL my cymbals, even my extras in order to try a new sound completely.

I'm not going to lie, I DO NOT like the Rude line (hi hats, rides, splashes. crashes). It all sounds awful, BUT for some reason the china cymbals are INCREDIBLE!! I bought an 18" 2002 Novo China after watching Nick Barker play one, but as a harder hitter it didn't have the attack I was looking for. Once I bought the 18" Rude Novo China I immediately knew that was what I was looking for!! I like the classic 18" Rude China a tiny bit more for it's straight up attack, but where the Novo China gets the win is because when you ride it the Novo produces a crash/ride effect that NO OTHER china does.

If you are playing extreme genres of music look into the Rude chinas. The 18" China, 14" Blast China and the 18" Novo China are the best around... In my opinion.
Music background: Professional drummer in the Deathmetal/Blackmetal/Grindcore/Hardcore/Punk genres.
great character and sound
over the years I've purchased a few $... china cymbals. They seem to break within a few months, but this one is going strong after 2 years. Glad I found this one, buying a bunch o Wuhan's was getting old. Some china cymbals are heavy with all attack and no wash, but the Rude Nova china is a perfect balance.
Music background: 25 years playing, Musicians institute alumni, studio/live
