Tom Phillips
Tom Phillips
Music was always a fundamental part of my family and I began my journey with music before I was 10 years old. By the time I was 16 I was a singer, guitarist, percussionist, and trombonist. From there I fell in love with early 90s rock and started playing in bands, and still do today.
After becoming a proficient songwriter I was eager to hear my songs recorded and began working on my audio engineering skills. I quickly went from recording my own music to spending some time enrolled in audio engineering class, and finally to working in a recording studio. Most of the last 5 years I have been working out of my home studio working with Rock and Hip Hop artists.
In coming to Sweetwater I am excited to be a part of the Sweetwater Difference. As a long time customer of Sweetwater's I have experienced how amazing the customer service is for Sales Engineers and I can't wait to be that for other musicians by extending them my expertise.
As your personal contact here at Sweetwater, please let me know anytime I can offer help or advice.

Why did you first apply for a job at Sweetwater?
Running a production company is very rewarding but it comes with long hours and uncertain income. By applying to Sweetwater I hoped to have a job that was more reliable and would still allow me to work in my field of experience. Not to mention I still get to work with my favorite gear that helps people make music!

Technical strengths:
I have experience in a range of music related activities, but my major strengths are in guitars and studio recording. I played classical guitar in college and am the guitarist in a regularly working Rock band. I've been using Pro Tools for 11 years (worked in Sonar for the 5 years prior) and have produced a multitude of Rock bands and Hip Hop artists. I also have backgrounds in other instruments, including percussion/drums and piano/keyboards, as well as live sound production.

Favorite music-related website:
Sweetwater.com, of course!

Other stuff we should know about you (hobbies, talents, interests, etc.):
I am a big fan of film and have done some video work myself. The most work I have done is music videos for my own music as well as a few other artists.
I'm also a huge Trekkie. I love Star Wars, but Star Trek is where my heart is. -
Favorite magazine:
Tape Op
-
Real-life hero:
Trent Reznor. His tenacity and drive for perfection is something that I aspire to.

What in your background prepared you most to help your customers with their audio needs?
I have worked in audio for 15 years and have been a musician since elementary school. This not only means I have been around the gear and done the work, it means that I am the customer. I'd been a customer for the last 10 years and having been one I now where customers come from.
-
What's the biggest gig you've ever played?
Once opened for CKY. Then about a year later opened for Soul Asylum.
-
Who are some of the notable artists you've worked with?
Other than opening for CKY and Soul Asylum, I spent some time working in the studio with rapper Mike Jones. Nothing he used commercially but it was a fun experience.

Absolutely amazed by the personal service on our order! It is obvious customer satisfaction is a priority. Your company would be the first place we would look for music related items. Great prices, great service and BTW, even the little touch of adding some candy made my kids very pleased! Thank you!

I have to say it's the most personal order I've ever made from the pre-ship phone call, to the email, and finally the candy in the box. Thanks! I don't think I could beat the customer service even in a local shop
