Built Like a Tank!

By DBurke from SoCal on February 22, 2023 Music Background: Singer, songwriter

I didn't want to spend so much on a mic stand, but the cheaper special I bought simply couldn't hold my Shure SM-58S over the piano keyboard at all. No matter how much I tightened it (and I was able to apply some strength), the special would droop. I was worried about both the mic and the finish of the brand new Yamaha CLP-785 digital piano.

So, I researched the BEST mic stands and quickly found Latch Lake. I read about their locking mechanisms on their website, and was convinced by the description and the reviews that this could hold a stage mic properly as people were also using these stands for much heavier large capsule condensers.

$ is a lot for a mic stand, but how much is peace of mind worth? I set up the stand with the SM-58 and it holds it rock-steady, no worries. I'm not worried that I will damage the mic or the piano finish, because it's over-engineered for the job which for my needs is just right. I definitely don't want to be fighting the mic stand or having to tighten it like crazy only to have it still fail, either unattended or mid-performance.

Highly-recommended. You won't need it for normal applications, but if you need an extended boom (such as over a piano) then it's a great choice.

Heavy duty!

Wow! I had never encountered a mic stand this heavy and sturdy! Holds my AEA R44CE perfectly! Absolutely no chance it is going to move, even if bumped. Fabulous and useful product!

Excellent mic stand

By Elksonic on July 6, 2022 Music Background: Musician/engineer

I own some vintage Atlas mic stands that are probably 40 years old. They are sturdy and made of steel with cast iron bases. I inherited them from a friend and still use them in my studio. The old Atlas stands are reliable and sturdy. The adjustments are mechanically sound unlike most of my newer stands which have mostly plastic parts.
I recently purchased a very nice microphone for the studio. I invested in a mic that would be the go to for vocals and critical sources. It is large and heavy and extremely well made and immediately I realized I needed a stand that I could rely on for the mic.

After a search for better made sturdy mic stands on the Sweetwater web site I found Latch Lake stands. I watched the video and was immediately impressed with the build features. I purchased the Latch Lake 2200 and it is as good as advertised. The build quality and the clamping mechanisms and adjustments are excellent. I must say that at $500 I was at first a little hesitant but once assembled and with my mic mounted I was more than impressed.

This brings me to my next mic stand purchase the Latch Lake 1100. I was using some older not so well made overhead stands and decided they needed to be replaced. Without hesitance I purchased two of the micKing 1100 tripod stands. They are every bit as impressive as the 2200 and for my purpose work perfectly in my space.

With the innovative clamping mechanisms and the steel parts I expect these stands to be around and functional in 40 years.

This is a serious mic stand

By Sweetwater Customer on December 31, 2021

I needed a mic stand that I could use to safely mount a mic over several keyboards. I had a standard stand before but I was worried that I would knock the mic over and have it land somewhere really bad. This stand is very heavy duty, solid, and adjustable. I'm no longer worried at all about knocking my mic over or damaging expensive gear. Great product, Latch Lake!

Well thought out gear

By Lenny B from Central PA on April 29, 2021 Music Background: Recording and live sound engineer at my church. Singer and guitarist.

Gear at this level of thoughtful design and construction is such a joy to use because it just flat works. It has so many little features that make it soooo nice to use. The precision of the construction is amazing. What helps is that it is largely made of steel. One of the little details is the nearly inch long section of 5/8-27 thread on the end of the boom. You unlatch the telescopic portion of the boom and it will spin effortlessly to attach it to a mic mount or hanger. All of the section clamps incorporate V notch cable attachments. Dressing the cable from the mic down the stand sections is almost automatic. But the best part is how stable it is as a consequence of how stiff and heavy the components are. Any lingering doubt about the value of this seemingly expensive stand went away the first time I had to set it up next to a grand piano to hang a ribbon mic over the keyboard for a singing pianist. My previous heavy duty boom stands had the typical 30" booms, which at full extension barely gets to the center of a piano keyboard. 5' booms rule! I could deploy a heavy mic like a Blue Reactor LDC in this scenario with complete confidence. And the section clamps are just amazing. I had another singer grab my Reactor to try to move it and I quickly stepped in and said," This boom won't move unless it's unlatched." You don't just grab and gronk it. But once it's set, it is not going anywhere. I am sorely tempted to get another one or even get a 2200. If you have even just a few valuable and possibly heavier than normal mics, invest in at least one of these stands, your mic collection will thank you.

Simply Amazing

By Stephen on January 9, 2021

the latch lake 1100 is truly a work of art. the metalwork and machining are incredibly robust and beautiful. It is rock solid and eliminates any paranoia of mics falling or moving. Very heavy, I was shocked how thick it is compared to budget stands I have used in the past.
I had extremely high expectations and after working with it in person, it has exceeded them.
Buy this stand. I hope latch lake stays in business for a long time and doesn't ever change this awesome product.

Very Pleased

I received the micKing 1100 I ordered and set it up with my U87Ai and its shock mount. Fully extended I trust the stand with the good mics. I was impressed with the build quality and stability. Excellent fit and finish on all parts.

Very Satisfied

By Steven Glowinski on July 29, 2020

I just received the Latch Lake micKing1100 stand I ordered together with the spin grip accessory and gave it a trial set up, holding a Neumann U87Ai. The stand is very sturdy for positioning. I am also quite impressed with the build quality, fit & finish.

Best Mic Stand ever

By Roger Street Friedman on November 2, 2019 Music Background: Songwriter/Recording Artist/Studio Owner/Engineer

These stands may just be my favorite pieces of gear! They are heavy enough to trust with vintage condenser mics but still easy enough to move around. Love the cam locks for all of the adjustments. Plenty of reach for tricky mic’ing situations. So glad I bought 2 of them!

Perfection

By Robert L. Smith from New York City on September 12, 2018 Music Background: Producer/Engineer/Mixer

Who would ever rave about a mic stand? Anyone that has used countless stands that don't deserve holding any kind of microphone. I wanted a super-duty stand, one that supports my mics with absolute confidence. When you position the mic and lock everything down on the stand, that mic will not move. Which I honestly can not say I've experienced with any other stand. Which is why I'm buying a second one.

At last!!!!!!

By Jeff King from Texas on June 1, 2017 Music Background: Musician, Recordist and Mixer

All right - we know this is an expensive stand. But why put a $1200 microphone in jeopardy with a flimsy, cheap stand. This stand is incredible! Once you engage all the clamps - nothing moves. Nothing. I've never experienced such rock-solid mic placement before. Especially nice for those applications where there is little or no wiggle room. I'm buying another one.

My favorite piece of gear--ever!

By Keith F from Mission Viejo, CA on February 7, 2017 Music Background: Woodwinds player/recording Engineer

I own 4 Latch Lake Mic King 2200 stands. They were my favorite pieces of gear in my recording studio. Now this tripod stand wins the prize! Pair it with the Latch Lake Xtra Boom and it will blow your mind. Forget about those Ultimate Support studio rolling stand. I own two, and they are terribly frustrating.
Latch Lake really killed it when they came up with this stand. Expensive, and worth every penny.

THIS IS IT

By Max on December 5, 2016

Latchlake is the best company out there as far as mic stands go. I also opted for the spin grip attachment and it just completes this already perfect mic stand. Now I don't have to worry about putting up my r44! And the main reason why I decided for the 1100 over the 2200 is portability. While it is still pretty heavy, it can still fold up and fit in the back of my car when I need to do location recording! This will be perfect for the drum recording we do in old churches, because I love to get the mic high but always am worried about it tipping, but that will not be the case with this guy.

Solid

By Shaun from Santa Monica on February 20, 2016 Music Background: Songwriter

I was always a little nervous attaching my nice condensers to a flimsy stand so I bought this. It weighs in at about 22lbs and is incredibly solid. I was expecting to be impressed given the price but it exceeded my already lofty expectations. I could probably do pull-ups hanging off this thing....

Great stand

By Seth Glassman from NY on January 7, 2015 Music Background: Bass player, songwriter, producer

Heavy, solid, reliable, easily adjustable. If you've ever been nervous about putting a $5K mic on a $100 stand this is the answer. I couldn't be happier.

Good For The Money, But...

By Dominic Guss from AZ on August 22, 2020 Music Background: Recording engineer (40 years) and musician.

This is a great stand with a lot of careful thought that went into the design except, for one thing, which would make it more expensive.

Even though the boom arm is sufficiently heavy duty and thick, the main vertical post is too thin for heavy mics that are extended a ways out, even if not near the maximum length this boom is capable of. This thinness makes the boom lean more than it should, even when the legs are placed correctly and extra counterweights are added (an option). Under a load like this, it appears to definitely struggle and shows its weakness in this area.

With that said, adding the extra boom arms and mics can amplify this weakness, so definitely use caution. Personally, I would pay more for a thicker, stronger main post.

micKing1100

By WADE YOUNG from WAGONER, OK on November 27, 2017

holds up my heavy mic but it is in need of a heavier counter weight for heavy studio mics.
it could use a heavier counter weight for balancing. the current counter weight is only 1 lb. needs to be 4 lbs.heavier for studio mics.
