An absolute life-saver. Truly my "wheelchair" for pain-free playing sessions

By JD from Danbury, CT
Music Background: professional 35+ years

From the moment I unboxed and mounted my guitar on this stand, I knew it was something special. I suffer from spondylolisthesis, and before getting this setup, I couldn't even play my guitar for more than 15 minutes before intense back pain would set in—pain that would linger all through the night. I had just gotten used to that being the "tax" I paid to enjoy my music.

But after just one hour of sitting down with it in front of me, I am completely blown away. After a full session with a heavy USA Jackson Soloist mounted on this stand, I caught myself shifting around in my chair out of habit, waiting for the usual ache to hit—and there was absolutely zero pain. None. It felt like a miracle. This thing is basically my wheelchair for pain-free playing sessions now, and I'm kicking myself for not buying one years ago.

You can immediately tell this gear is made in Germany, and that legendary German engineering is exactly how you know how good it is. It is rock-solid, incredibly adjustable, and holds a premium instrument with total stability. I used to be terrified of scratching my high-end guitars on stands, but this setup is so safe that it completely flipped my mindset: I bought my gear to play it, not just display it, and this stand lets me do exactly that with 100% confidence.

My late friend in Germany, Jens Fricke, was a singer in a death metal band and just loved to hear me rave about awesome gear. He would have loved to hear me talking up this stand today, and he would have appreciated the bulletproof engineering just as much as I appreciate the fact that I can finally play for hours without paying a physical price.

If you have back issues, or if you just want a professional, flawlessly designed stand that completely changes your relationship with playing posture, do not hesitate. This is worth every single penny.

Perfect for the Yamaha Silent Guitar

By StevenB

I've been looking for a solid way to use my Yamaha Silent guitar on stage so I thought I'd give the K&M 14760 for Electric Guitar a try. I did have gently bend the clamps a little but the end result is a stand that solidly attaches to the guitar - enough so that I could pick the guitar up and the stand stays firmly attached. Works like a charm!

As always, a shout out to my sales engineer Delvin Wolf for his help!

Great, functional, overpriced

By Jason L. from ESTES PARK, CO

I was fortunate enough to get a certified open box item to save some money. Works perfect for my electric bass (Warmoth PJ custom creation) and there is a gap between part of the body. That gap fills up perfectly with my Gibson ES335 - but be sure to loosen the clamps so they don't harm a semi-hollow body or hollow body.

Cool stand

By Curtis from USA
Music Background: Guitar

I have been using this for about a month now and I have put a Les Paul into it and it worked just fine. It is not very friendly with using pedals like other people have said. It has been awesome not having a guitar around my messed up neck. It takes some getting used to using the stand and has caused pain in other areas on my back. I think I will get used to it over time. The stand has been great and has made practicing so much better. I can play for a lot longer now. I am pleased with it and would have given it more stars but the price is a lot. If you have pain it is very nice to have.

Works as advertised

By L.R. S. from Columbus Ohio
Music Background: Long time musician and player

I've had recent hip tendonitis holding my guitar for hours at a time was causing it to get much worse, so I researched and checked out various reviews of the K&M Walk-up guitar stand, and saw that others who had physical issues also ordered and used the stand. So I ordered it and fortunately several of my guitars did fit the stand, Strat, Melody Maker, Westone Phoenix. The stand is a tripod and has three legs It does allow me to swing to my left or right to be able to see my drummer and Bass player, but I'm still trying to figure out where to put my pedals and pedalboard as one leg or another always ends up in the way. It would be awesome if the K&M stand was mounted to a heavy steel plate with one center pole connected to the guitar holder clamp, leaving a flat surface all around the center pole for pedals to live. Having the holder angled back towards you works nicely allows you to see the strings and fretboard but I find that also causes me to have to lean my back forward at around 10% lean which causes my back to hurt a lot.If one leg was adjustable that would alleviate the lean problem. All in all it is expensive, not as heavy duty as most decent drum hardware, but it works and holds the weight and is balanced as not to tip over if you set it up correctly.

Enable long rehearsals without shoulder pain

By Kevin S. from Cumming, GA
Music Background: Music Director

I purchased this stand to help relieve my shoulder pain at the recommendation of my chiropractor. It is highly configurable with height, neck tilt, and body tilt adjustments to make it comfortable to rehearse for hours without strap pressure. The stand is very sturdy and I have no concerns with the security of my instruments in it. If the price was more reasonable, I would have given it 5 starts, but it should prove cheaper than frequent visits for medical care! It is a different playing experience without the weight of the guitar on your body, but you will get used to it.

Does the job but trust is an issue

By Paul G. from CHANDLER, AZ

Agree with others have said, the cost on this is way too high for what it is. Secondly German Engineering, is sometimes, over engineering. Also, like others have said, the rubber ears come off way too easy. One rubber ear easily flipped off immediately without me even doing anything. So, what I did with mine was pull them all off, wipe the metal with alcohol then applied a thin layer of Elmers glue, then slipped the rubber ears back on. Hopefully this will hold. Next, the side adjustment that adjusts the Left / Right tilt (neck up or down) uses a thumb screw with teeth. So you must make sure the teeth are aligned, otherwise you'll tighten thinking it's tight, then unexpectedly it will pop into place. There is a small silver hex nut on the side which controls the forward and back tilt. Took me a while to figure that out. You must make sure that is tight as well. I always keep guitar straps (with locks) on my guitars, so when I use this stand, I will ALWAYS use my guitar straps as a safety backup. I don't trust the stand enough to just use it without the guitar tethered. One more thing, the push and turn levers are dodgy. The idea is good, execution not so good. Perhaps K&M should go back to the drawing board. Lastly, I would NEVER put a guitar on this stand and walk away. Overall, it will do the trick, but my faith and trust is shaky, thus I'll always use it with a guitar strap.

Solid Gracie stand!

By Sweetwater Customer

Sweetwater sent this out fast, on schedule & in excellent condition.
So far I love it! Very solidly built.
I use it on my solo acoustic shows. It holds my Stratocaster perfectly for when I want to get a loop going and then walk over to the strat for an electric solo to spice up the performance.

A good solution for a guitarist dealing with back problems

By Don from Maine
Music Background: Lifetime guitarist with local bands. Age 74.

As an older guitarist with some arthritis in my back, I have been able to keep playing with the aid of this performer stand.
It's highly adjustable and doesn't get in my way while I'm playing on stage. It's sturdy and made of heavier gauge steel than
an average mic stand. Well worth the investment.

Makes Practicing More Accessible.

By Austin
Music Background: Producer, Guitarist, Vocalist

This has changed the way I practice dramatically. Now that my guitar stays on this stand, it is so easy to walk up and start playing, and I can just as quickly step back and take a break. While watching television, the guitar is readily available without putting a strap over my shoulder. I find that I'm practicing longer because playing is more comfortable. This stand has really changed things for me. Even though I love the stand, the price does not make sense. I do not understand why it is so expensive. It is well built, and the materials are good quality, but I think it could be cheaper. However, I don't think I can live without it now that I've tried it.

The only real solution

By William A. from Stockton Springs, ME
Music Background: Professional musician for 35+ years. Studio owner.

If you're needing an axe on stage with an alternate tuning, or a special setup, this is the stand you use. I see reviews complaining about the rubber grips coming off. Easy fix, put some Gorilla glue inside each one, and let it sit for a day. Problem solved. Not a reason to give a bad review. This is the one you see Steve Howe, and others using on tour. This is it.

Practically a Lifesaver

By Jack E. from GREENFIELD, IN

I have always been frustrated trying to play guitar. I have a malformed left hand which makes it very difficult to make chords and holding a pick never worked. After many years of frustration, I finally figured out a way to pick with the left hand. I got a left-handed guitar (here at Sweetwater, natch) but I found that everything I ever learned about trying to play right handed went out the window, and I'm essentially starting over. Unfortunately, back problems have made it so that I've been spending more time fighting the guitar into place instead of building new calluses and muscle memory. Then I found this beauty. It seemed like it might be a little gimmicky, but I've gotten pretty bull headed about making this work. The stand arrived today, and I was able to practice for an hour straight with no back pain from arguing with gravity ,and letting my right hand learn where it needs to go instead of asking it to hold the guitar in place.

I have a Gretsch with the master volume knob toward the neck, which makes it a touch awkward to load on the stand left-handed (right-handed would be fine because of the retaining lever placement). Other than that, it's a perfect addition to my musical journey.

Good stuff...Conditionally.

By Jim F. from Ellicott City, MD

Is it sturdy? Yes. It is a stable design? Yes. Is it expensive for what it is? YES. Will I use it? Yes. Can I use it now? No. I don't play a Fender bass or FSO (Fender-shaped object). I play a G. Gould GGi-5 and GGi-6 that are not shaped exactly like a Fender P. So...my basses don't really fit all that well. I could theoretically use this stand with them at the price of stability, a compromise that I'm not willing to make with the price point on my chosen instruments. The solution? Modification. I am in a lucky spot that I do have the ability to modify this item. Basically, to make if fit my basses well, I will end up cutting the saddle to shorten it overall and re-shaping it to match the contour of my bass's body. In truth, the modification operation is fairly straightforward for someone who can use metal cutting and shaping tools, also a welder. The point is, for the price point, this should not be necessary. There is only one saddle available. You cannot purchase just the lower section and adapter or select from upper saddle shapes. It fits or it does not. I am opting to make the modifications, as both of my basses are of identical body shapes. I would not have had trouble fabricating the adapter and mounting it to a standard, double-braced cymbal stand, had I the design to eliminate trial and error. I consider this a learning experience. My plan is to make the modifications to make this device fit and then spend $75 on a used cymbal stand and about $25 in materials to fabricate a second one for my second bass. I may even make one for my banjo and baritone guitar.

TLDR: The unit is well made and sturdy. It fits great if you play an instrument that fits. It fits poorly if you instrument does not match the contour of the saddle. There is no way to know for sure if you instrument fits without having both pieces present. The opportunity to see if it works is not cheap.

This Thing Saved My Back!!!

By Marc S. from ANN ARBOR, MI

I was in a pretty serious biking accident in late 2020, and even after recovery, I can barely deal with the weight of my bass on my neck/shoulders. This stand takes the weight completely off of me, and makes my bass a walk-up! It is a solid stand, and takes the weight of the bass just fine. My only suggestion is that I wish they offered a left-handed option... it works fine reversed, but the tightening mechanism is then in the front... less clean of a look, but still works great.

Does the job

By Ant from NC
Music Background: Lifelong musician, 35+ Years Bass Player, Toured Professionally for 8 years, Playing for pure Love of it now.

Got this because I recently broke my left upper arm/shoulder in a fall. The timing is never good for something like that, but in this case it was really bad. Spring is our busy time for gigs and I had 2 big ones coming up and I couldn't hold my bass and play at all (still can't) with my arm. The pain and limited mobility was just too much to deal with. The stand works great. There is a cut out for the jack, it is highly adjustable (I mean I had to bend the "S" curve to fit my Tobias 5-string), but it fits great. Holds it sturdy with a little give and take which feels like I'm driving it pretty good. I like the way it swivels so I can move around a lot. Since I can't move my arm more than a few inches up or down the neck, I can just move my whole body and stand where I need to be to play in whatever key we are in. It really works well.

The only reason I didn't give it 5-Stars is the price tag. I mean, if you REALLY need something, I guess no price tag is too big. But come on, this thing is like a $25.00 music stand with a custom head on it. I suppose that's where all the $ is involved, but what I don't like, is if you wanted to use this for an Acoustic guitar, you have to buy an entire new one. Seems like they would at least sell the top part for an acoustic so you only had to buy 1 stand. Or make it a package deal and sell the 2 tops with one stand for somewhere in the middle. Hard to justify spending almost $700 if you want one for an electric, and one for an Acoustic. But hey, I guess they are in business to make $. Just seems like they would sell more if they were more reasonably priced.

All that said, I would recommend this for anyone with any physical challenges or if you play another instrument and need to walk up to an electric for a song or 2 or whatever during a live performance, this thing works well.

Works with lots of guitars

By JOHN P.

Works well as described. Appears pretty sturdy. Will see how it lasts over the years. I was concerned about having difficulty being able to plug the guitar cable into the guitar when it is on the stand especially given some on line comments. The stand has a cut out that allows access to side guitar cable inputs and the angle of the guitar in the stand can be adapted to allow access. I have been able to fit several strat style guitars into the stand without cord access issues and it even holds my Chapman Ghostfret Explorer-style body without difficulty.

If spending $ for a stand and then setting a $4000 guitar in it, only to turn around because you heard the crash 30 minutes later only to discover that they don't use any adhesive on the rubber grip pads that you know, hold the guitar, and you know that because all of them but one are rolling around on the floor around your face down baby, a good time, then I definitely recommend this product. cabt wait to see what else K&M have to offer.

I would give zero stars if I could

By David A. from Carmichael, CA
Music Background: 40 years

I can't begin to explain how terrible this product is. The rubber grippers on the clamps that are supposed to protect your guitar's finish will pop off during playing ALL the time. Which usually also entirely dislodges the guitar from the mount. This requires you to immediately stop playing, chase after the rubber piece that shot across the floor somewhere, and reassemble the entire ordeal. Usually takes a couple of minutes. In practice sessions alone, it's annoying. In band practice, it'll get you yelled at. In performance, it would get you fired immediately. So I would NEVER used this stand for any real purpose.

The screws for the clamping arms jut out the back-side of the instrument by several inches, with one of them firmly lodged against your abdomen somewhere, depending on where you like to position your instrument. Usually right in the belly button for me. This is a solid bolt with a sharp end! Constantly jabbing into and scrapping across your belly! Injuries would occur if you tried to play near your instrument as you normally would, so you are left with the only option of trying to hover over back and away from your instrument and play from a distance. Which is completely stupid. It still is constantly jabbing at you, even when you try to keep your distance, which is very distracting at the very least.

Oh, they included a mushroom-headed screw that is supposed to round it off as long as you don't tighten the clamp, but if you don't, that stupid rubber thing just pops off even more readily. And the rounded steal bolt cover is still way too extended, even if you didn't tighten it down, so no issue will be solved with this terrible design. You still can't play in a normal position.

Speaking of which, I never found a good position for the legs of this thing and my feet. I always end up kicking around and standing on one of the support legs, which is awkward so I end up playing kind of sideways and hovering over and completely off-balance. It gets old extremely fast. Did they test this unit at all at the company that makes it?

The height adjust-ability goes up to perhaps where a 10' tall person may want to position their guitar. Maybe it's designed to be placed on the auditorium floor and reach up to stage-level performers? Why?

The curvature arm that is supposed to cradle your guitar doesn't even come close to matching any of my guitars. I'm not complaining about cosmetics here... the poor fit makes the instrument pop out, or slide out, or jam up into your jack or knobs, or otherwise move into an undesired position that will require you to stop playing and re-do the whole thing.

I use it for bass sometimes, also, where I prefer to play in a more steeply-angled neck position than when on guitar so that I may more easily access the long neck. The armature is too short to cradle the body in this position, and the stupid rubber pieces pop off, the clamps gouge my guitar and pop out of position, and I have to quickly catch my bass from falling out and to the floor. I've tried securing the instrument to the stand with straps, but even that doesn't really help much.

For context, I've only used this product in practice sessions alone, so I'm not jumping around and rocking out. I'm extremely gentle, as I'm all too aware that everything is going to fall apart at any second while I'm playing. So I'm doing everything I can to mitigate the problem. I'll try epoxying the rubber things on to see if that helps, but that is far from the only problem. I'll have to make other modifications, but still don't know if this design can be fixed.

This is the worst piece of engineering I've seen in a long time. I'll just make my own stand. This was way too expensive of a mistake. I didn't have time to fully test the product before the return window closed, so I'm screwed by this purchase. I absolutely hate this product, and hope I can dissuade anyone from repeating my mistake.

Customers: I recommend you design and build your own instead if you want one that works.

Everyday Guitar Player

Using the K&M Performer Walk Up Guitar Stand - Electric

By Dwayne H. from Lumberton, Texas
Music Background: Been playing multi instrumental for 66 years, and mixing since 1972

I had eyed the K&M Performer Stand for quite a long time, but never could justify the expense vs. useability. In June of this year I had a big surprise in my life in way of a quad open-heart bypass surgery. This limited my ability to pickup an electric guitar due to the weight. After talking to Michael Duncan about the stand and it's virtues, I ordered one. What a welcome surprise! I found that I was able to put one of my guitars (a Telecaster or what ever) in the stand and there was no more loading my very sore chest and back. I just simply put the guitar in the stand and when I am through playing, I just turn the rig off and walk away. I really love this and the stand will earn a permanent place next to my position in front of my mixing setup. Play when it's handy then turn it off.

Try it!

Back Saver! But Costly.

By Yolch from Fort Wayne, IN

Excellent product! Very heavy duty and stable. It has a high amount of adjustability and easily accommodates all my electric guitars and basses. I bought this primarily for playing bass on our worship team for two reasons: 1. I have a very bad back, and this eliminates 100% of the spinal compression that is normally experienced when actually wearing a guitar/bass. 2. I constantly switch between playing bass and drums during worship. This gives me complete freedom to quickly and effortlessly walk between both instruments in between songs.

I took off 1 star solely for the price. Having worked in corporate metal fabrication and design over the years, there is simply no valid reason for this to cost as much as it does.

Walk up stand

By John C. from Florida
Music Background: Guitarist

I wasn"t sure if this would be a waste of money until I used it. It"s great value. It was easy and intuitive to set up. It was easy to adjust for playing and solid. I feel confident in its construction and trust my instrument to it. I used it with my heavy Les Paul Recording model and was able to triple my practice time due to the fact I didn"t have to hold the guitar. I use it on stage when I need to complement my playing acoustic with intervals of lead electric playing

Walk Up Guitar Stand

By Sweetwater Customer

It's a good product. It was not designed to work well with a Les Paul. When positioned on the stand correctly, the input jack is covered up. Also, the lower clamp goes right into the volume knobs. However I was able to make it work and will use it.
