Custom Spec’d by Sweetwater’s Guitar Experts
Boasting a custom set of specs curated by Sweetwater’s guitar experts, the Wood Library 509 is a PRS guitar you can’t get anywhere else. This 509 begins with a traditional PRS mahogany body, yet the upgraded quilted maple10-Top’s dazzling figuring is sure to turn heads. For enhanced stability and an extra-snappy response, the neck is constructed from torrefied maple and a sleek slab of ebony, planed into a 10-inch radius for effortless playability up and down the board. Next, five 509 single-coil pickups, a 5-way selector switch, and two mini toggles result in nine different tonal combinations that excel in everything from hard rock rhythms to clean jazz and beyond. It’s all finished with custom smoked black Gen III Tremolo and Phase III locking tuners for the utmost stability, even with heavy vibrato use.

Nine humbucking and single-coil tones
The PRS Wood Library 509’s signature feature is its diverse pickup system. At first glance, the Wood Library 509 appears to have a standard H/S/H pickup configuration, but the neck and bridge humbuckers are independent single-coil pickups placed side-by-side. Thanks to the 509’s flexible pickup switching, you can set these pickups as true single-coils or full-on humbuckers. In combination with the guitar’s 5-way pickup selector, this adds up to a total of nine distinct pickup configurations with two mini-toggle switches to control your neck and bridge selections. Paul Reed Smith and his team build every 509 pickup with their TCI (Tuned Capacitance and Inductance) tuning process, which ear-tunes each pickup to perfection before your guitar leaves PRS’ Maryland-based facility. The end result? Very musical pickups that are true to their lineage but updated for the modern player. Take it from Sweetwater’s guitar experts: the PRS Wood Library 509 has the tonal variety you need for any gig.
Pattern Regular-profile neck feels great and plays smoothly
The PRS Wood Library 509 features a highly playable torrefied maple Pattern Regular neck profile fitted with an ebony fretboard. A hallmark of PRS quality, neck profiles are, of course, critical to your playing experience and a point where PRS perpetually excels. Perfected after years of prototyping, the Pattern Regular neck carve is based on Paul Reed Smith’s original, pre-factory neck design — the same one used on instruments Paul built in the late ’80s at PRS’s Virginia Avenue location. You’ll love the feel and playability of the PRS Wood Library 509!
Only a 10-Top will do
Curl, flame, quilt, and spalt: even in the early days of Paul Reed Smith’s guitar-building career, the company had a reputation for the sheer quality of figuring on their maple tops, with dazzling lines and grain patterns that make any plain top pale in comparison. Naturally, customers began to call in and request that their instruments be built with “a nice-looking top” — far too vague a term for the tonewood scientists in Stevensville, Maryland. Thus, the 10-Top designation was born: a lofty status that requires a “clearly defined figure across the entire top,” leaving no doubt that the guitar will arrive capped with a superlative piece of timber.
