Vienna Raises the Bar for Lush, Intense Cinematic Strings
The string section is the heart of the orchestra, more often than not charged with deployment of the sweeping themes and haunting melodies we remember long after seeing a blockbuster film. Recorded in the impeccable acoustics of VSL's Synchron Stage Vienna with first-call musicians, Vienna Symphonic Library Synchron Strings I raises the bar for contemporary cinematic scoring with its playability, expressiveness, and stunning sonic realism. The sections of 1st violins, 2nd violins, violas, cellos, and double basses were recorded separately in situ using an extensive multi-mic setup. VSL Synchron Strings I Full Library gives you a comprehensive selection of discrete audio channels, letting you mix in stereo, 5.1 surround, Auro 3D 9.1 — or any other immersive audio format, such as Dolby Atmos — using the cutting-edge Vienna Synchron Player.

Choose your spacial perspective
At Sweetwater, we love having the flexibility to freely create ambiences and place instruments in space. The performances for Synchron Strings I were recorded in stereo using a Decca tree; additional microphone arrays were employed for 5.1 surround and Auro 3D 9.1 formats. In all, eight separate phase-coherent mic configurations were used to record each instrument; you can select any of them and mix to taste. Finely tuned presets preserve all the sonic detail and natural volume envelopes of the instruments and serve as excellent starting points for your orchestrations.
Immersive Sound and Auro 3D
The Full Library version of Synchron Strings I includes immersive audio technology that delivers a three-dimensional listening experience. A development of Belgian company Auro Technologies, Auro 3D is based on a spacial configuration of nine loudspeakers plus an LFE channel. To a standard 5.1 surround setup, four additional ("height layer") speakers are situated above the L/R front and surround speakers to generate acoustic reflections that are perceived naturally from above the listener. Synchron Strings I (Full Library) offers a selection of discrete audio channels, letting you mix your instruments in Auro 3D — as well as Dolby Atmos formats.
About Synchron Stage Vienna
Synchron Stage Vienna, located on Vienna's historic Wiener Rosenhuegel, can accommodate a 130 piece orchestra and has proven its mettle over the decades not only for film score recording, but also for sampling sessions. With its massive concrete foundation, room-in-room construction, sound insulation, and specially designed HVAC system, the studio boasts an ultra-low noise floor of 16dBA, even with the air conditioning running. Stage A sports a reverb time of 1.8 seconds — and unlike many other scoring stages, there is no low-frequency masking effect. Instruments sound warm and punchy, with superior depth and panoramic localization.
