VSL’s Next-gen Orchestral String Library
Vienna Symphonic Library's Synchron Strings Pro combines authentic-sounding artistic expression, super-detailed articulations, and hyper-realistic note transitions into a next-generation orchestral string library. Like previous libraries, Synchron Strings Pro boasts VSL’s acclaimed legatos, complete with portamento and flautando, lightning-fast phrases, and an arsenal of attack and release variants. This orchestral powerhouse also provides you with comprehensive control over vibrato and dynamics. Featuring recordings of high-level musicians, Synchron Strings Pro Full was captured at Synchron Stage Vienna using a multi-mic setup. Synchron Strings Pro Full Library gives you access to all eight microphones used during the session, enabling you to mix in stereo, 5.1 surround, Auro 3D 9.1 — or any other immersive audio format, such as Dolby Atmos — using the cutting-edge Vienna Synchron Player.

Endless articulations and phrases
We have a number of pro-level composers here at Sweetwater, and they’ve been highly impressed by Synchron Strings Pro’s astonishing level of realism. VSL accomplished this using a cutting-edge sampling system to capture thousands of articulations from virtuosic performances by a well-rehearsed team of top-shelf musicians. A well-trained ear can oftentimes differentiate between an orchestral virtual instrument and a real-world orchestra by homing in on the note beginnings and releases. That’s why Synchron Strings Pro includes all of the originally played attack and release variants. Whether your composition demands a marcato attack, a soft attack, or an even softer crescendo, you’ll hear exactly what the musicians played, not a time-stretched, MIDI-warped version of it. You also get thousands of lightning-fast legato phrases that were recorded in their entirety for a natural-sounding flow — no programming necessary.
Choose your spatial perspective
Having the flexibility to freely create ambiences and place instruments in space is invaluable when you’re composing. The performances for Synchron Strings Pro were recorded in stereo using a Decca tree; additional microphone arrays were employed for 5.1 surround and Auro 3D 9.1 formats. In all, eight separate phase-coherent mic configurations were used to record each instrument, and you can select any of them and mix to taste. Finely tuned presets preserve all the sonic detail and natural volume envelopes of the instruments, serving as excellent starting points for your orchestrations.
Immersive Sound and Auro 3D
The Full Library version of Synchron Strings Pro includes immersive audio technology that delivers a 3D listening experience. A development of Belgian company Auro Technologies, Auro 3D is based on a spatial configuration of nine loudspeakers plus an LFE channel. To a standard 5.1 surround setup, four additional ("height layer") speakers are situated above the L/R front and surround speakers to generate acoustic reflections that are perceived naturally from above the listener. Synchron Strings Pro Full Library offers a selection of discrete audio channels, letting you mix your instruments in Auro 3D — as well as Dolby Atmos formats.
About Synchron Stage Vienna
Synchron Stage Vienna, located on Vienna's historic Wiener Rosenhügel, can accommodate a 130-piece orchestra and has proven its mettle over the decades not only for film score recording, but also for sampling sessions. With its massive concrete foundation, room-in-room construction, sound insulation, and specially designed HVAC system, the studio boasts an ultra-low noise floor of 16dBA, even with the air conditioning running. Stage A sports a reverb time of 1.8 seconds — and unlike many other scoring stages, there is no low-frequency masking effect. Instruments sound warm and punchy, with superior depth and panoramic localization.
