Field, Snare, Boobams and Ensembles
Vienna Symphonic Library Synchron Drums III contains a set of percussion instruments curated from VSL's Synchron Percussion III collection. It includes field drum, marching snare, piccolo snare, snare drum, and boobams. And for Synchron Drums III VSL added Big Bang Orchestra's Dorado drum ensembles, Eridanus's percussion ensemble riffs, and Fornax's Drums & Piano setup — with these powerful additions, you can record ensembles of up to six musicians. The ensembles add monster drums, bass drums, thunder toms, special drums, and more! All instruments were captured in various meters and speeds and in a wide variety of articulations ranging from rolls to flams to variations played with brushes, mallets, and rods. If you're seeking the perfect percussive accents for your scoring projects, Sweetwater recommends Synchron Drums III.

Choose your spacial perspective
The performances for Synchron Drums III were recorded in stereo using a Decca tree; additional mic arrays were employed for 5.1 surround and Auro 3D 9.1 formats. Twelve microphones were used to record each instrument; you can select up to seven of them and mix to taste. Finely tuned presets preserve all the sonic detail and natural volume envelopes of the instruments and serve as excellent starting points for your orchestrations.
Immersive Sound and Auro 3D
The Full Library version of Synchron Drums III includes immersive audio technology that delivers a three-dimensional listening experience. A development of Belgian company Auro Technologies, Auro 3D is based on a spacial configuration of nine loudspeakers plus an LFE channel. To a standard 5.1 surround setup, four additional ("height layer") speakers are situated above the L/R front and surround speakers to generate acoustic reflections that are perceived naturally from above the listener. Synchron Drums III (Full Library) offers a selection of discrete audio channels, letting you mix your instruments in Auro 3D — as well as Dolby Atmos — formats.
Using the recording studio as an instrument
Synchron Stage Vienna, located on Vienna's historic Wiener Rosenhuegel, can accommodate a 130 piece orchestra and has proven its mettle over the decades not only for film score recording but also for sampling sessions. Instruments sound warm and punchy, with superior depth and panoramic localization. The room itself is an extraordinary instrument. With its massive concrete foundation, room-in-room construction, sound insulation, and specially designed HVAC system, the studio boasts a ludicrously low noise-floor of 16dBA, even with the air conditioning running. Stage A sports a reverb time of 1.8 seconds — and unlike many other large halls, there is no low-frequency masking effect.
