Delectable Strings
Dimension Strings III takes Vienna Symphonic Library's Dimension Strings series to a new level of quiet and subtlety. Performed sul tasto (near the fingerboard), these string sounds expand your tonal palette with their velvety sonic nuances. In contrast to con sordino (with mute), this special playing technique is characterized by bowing near the fingerboard, which results in fewer even harmonics and a very soft, breathy timbre, akin to that of a flute being played pianissimo. The ability to gradually increase the number of players presents intriguing possibilities for subtly building your arrangements dal niente (from nothing), or to tail out a note to barely more than a whisper (al niente).

Breathtaking realism
As in VSL Dimension Strings I and II, Dimension Strings III captures all the human interactions and organic imperfections of live performance. The musicians were recorded in four homogeneous ensembles, however, dedicated microphones for each player give you access to the individual voices for virtually unlimited performance flexibility. The free Vienna Instruments Player gives you control over the level and mix position of each player. With the optional Vienna Instruments Pro and its Auto Humanization feature, additional nuances and variations, such as custom divisi sections, are possible while you simply play your keyboard, for final results that sound absolutely stunning.
The imperfections have it
Even world-class string players never perform in perfect unison. When playing ensemble, they are constantly adapting, automatically adjusting timbre, intonation, intensity, vibrato, and bow velocity on the fly. It is these interactions that reveal the magic of a live performance. With Dimension Strings III, you can easily achieve changes in dynamic levels of the individual players in a group with velocity crossfades. To further the realism, you can even select a couple of musicians to play "sloppy" notes, with indecisive starts.
First-call musicians, first-class samples
At Sweetwater, we hold the Vienna Symphonic Library in high regard; that's because we're picky about our orchestral samples. It all starts with the musicians. Since VSL's inception, first-call musicians have been providing the sound and character of these instruments as soloists and ensemble leaders. This approach is largely responsible for the impressive sonic authority and authenticity we have come to expect from VSL virtual instruments.
