MOTU UltraLite AVB USB / AVB / iOS Interface
MOTU UltraLite AVB USB / AVB / iOS Interface Reviews
Whether you're recording in the studio, taking direct output feeds off of an analog mixer, or using it live onstage, the MOTU Ultralite AVB gives you the flexibility and low latency you need. Like the rest of MOTU's popular AVB-equipped audio interfaces, the Ultralite AVB lets you send and receive analog and digital audio across a standard network. The internal mixer also includes all kinds of DSP processing, summing, and routing options too, and between its high-speed USB 2.0 connectivity and additional optical I/O, you can easily expand the capabilities of your MOTU Ultralite AVB. MOTU Ultralite AVB Audio Interface at a Glance:
- Versatile I/O for the flexibility you need
- Powerful built-in effects and routing
- Imagine the possibilities with AVB expansion
Versatile I/O for the flexibility you need Sweetwater and MOTU have had a wonderful and long relationship, largely because they manage to deliver such exceptionally high-quality sound with every product they make, offering our customers superb sound at remarkably affordable prices. The Ultralite AVB follows this legacy without fail, packing plenty of great-sounding inputs and outputs into a fantastically affordable mobile unit. This includes a 10-in/6-out analog I/O with two stellar microphone preamps, two HiZ guitar inputs, and a 117dB dynamic range that stands up to some of the most impressive gear on the market. On top of that, the Ultralite AVB offers you digital inputs via optical I/O and MIDI in and out for your keyboard or other MIDI controllers. Powerful built-in effects and routing The onboard DSP mixer offers a number of advantages you'll find useful in a variety of settings, such as when you're connected via USB or using the Ultralite AVB in a standalone format. This digital mixer supports up to 48 inputs (via AVB expansion) and 12 stereo busses, allowing you to set up extremely complex routing schemes completely independent of your computer. In fact, if you connect a wireless router to your Ultralite AVB, you can access all of its internal mixing functions via an app on your iOS device or any device connected to your WiFi network, turning this powerful audio interface into a fully capable standalone mixer. Speaking of onboard processing and effects, whether you're in the studio or onstage with your Ultralite AVB, you'll find a ton of uses for its DSP EQ, compression, gate, and reverb including the built-in accurate model of the legendary LA-2A optical compressor which provides vintage, musical automatic gain control. Imagine the possibilities with AVB expansion Another extremely cool use of the Ultralite AVB's Ethernet connection is the ability to link more MOTU AVB equipped audio interfaces to it. You can do this in one of two ways: directly via a simple Ethernet cable or as part of an audio network via one or more MOTU AVB Switch. If you go with just a single Ethernet cable, you can easily link a second Ultralite AVB or other AVB ready device directly to your first one. With MOTU AVB Switches, you can create an audio network of up to five units, potentially linking hundreds of channels of I/O across multiple rooms. And since it's all over standard Cat-5e Ethernet cable, latency or cable runs aren't any kind of issue. MOTU Ultralite AVB Audio Interface Features:
- 18 x 18 audio interface with 36 simultaneous audio channels
- Analog I/O includes 2 mic inputs, 2 guitar inputs, 6 line inputs
- 8 line outs including dedicated main left and right outputs

Get amazing sound and tons of flexibility with MOTU's Ultralite AVB!
Great mixer, AVB/ethernet is a win, nice pre-amps - class compliant USB is shaky
Very Impressed
This hits the nail on the head and is exactly what I needed. It has plenty of I/O along with DC coupled outputs to connect my modular synthesizers to CV Tools on Ableton Live. Pair that with a very solid build quality, and fairly stable drivers (a little buggy at first but you quickly work the kinks out of your system adjusting preferences after a few days) and I was sold.
The ESS Sabre32 converters in the 2019 update are amazing. Aggressively transparent, and they show all the details I was missing before. Honestly, and surprisingly, I prefer this interface to an Universal Audio Apollo I formerly had. Very impressed, especially for the price. Great experience ordering from Sweetwater, as always.
Sorry I waited so long......
I had put off trying a MOTU product for many years, to be disappointed that I hadn't made the move sooner! The features and quality compare to many higher end units in this category. Also with the "stand-alone" mixer control feature saves me from bring an additional mixer out to a gig to mix additional gear. I am currently using the Ultralite as a companion unit for my "road" rig. The interface is perfect and doesnt add any additional latency when running a boat load of Vst's live. With my custom 1U 3.4Ghz 8 core pc running a plug-in host, iv'e been able to run 11 instance combinations of Keyscape, Ominsphere and Kontack with a 256 sample bus size with 40% cpu load!!
Motu AVB USB
Product works as advertised - fantastic. Great and timely delivery from Sweetwater. Very pleasant experience. Will order again.
UltraLite AVB - A solid little interface
The UltraLite AVB meets my needs for an audio interface with lots of 1/4 connections. Both the USB and AVB (Ethernet) connections work. Keep in mind that you'll need an external AVB router if you want to use Ethernet both for local use as an AVB interface and network use via the iphone app.
I've been using it for a few weeks -- I'll update the review after I've used it for 6 months.
While this unit is awesome for what it is, consider the MOTU 1248, which adds a Thunderbolt interface, among other features. As a Mac use this would be awesome. However, I've been able to get some screaming AVB/Ethernet throughput, so I'm set with the UltraLite.
Great service and support from Sweetwater, as always.
A super interface
This is a perfect unit if you need something more than just an interface. This week I am using it as a digital mixer for a retreat I am leading worship at. Connect it to a set of powered speakers and a Sub and you have a killer system directly connected to Ableton and you can control with your iPad. It does everything I would ever need it to do with plenty of inputs. If you run out, you can connect it with the other avb family members.
Sound quality is top notch. No need for me to bring an acoustic preamp anymore. The only thing I wish would be included is possibly some better visuals for eq and effects opposed to just knobs, but that's just me being picky. Still blown away for just an interface and worth 5 stars.
Ready to Go
I needed to replace the interface for my surround-sound lecture in a hurry, and I was able to use the default interface presets and output equalizers (for speaker tuning) almost right out of the box. The only thing that tripped me up for a few minutes was that Analog Outputs 1-6 are patched by default to outputs 5-10 (Phones Out and Main Out are on 1-4).
