The Universal Audio UAD Pultec Passive EQ Collection allows you to tap into the legend, arming you with a trio of incredibly accurate Pultec models: the EQP-1A Program EQ, the MEQ-5 Midrange EQ, and the HLF-3C Filter Set. Incorporating their characteristically thorough approach to analog emulation, UA has captured the entire electronic path of all three units, including their transformers and tube amps, to ensure that every bit of that coveted Pultec magic is realistically represented. The UAD Pultec Passive EQ Collection also features presets from legendary Pultec users. It all adds up to the most cost-effective way to augment your recordings with the revered Pultec sound.

EQP-1A
In 1953, the original EQP-1 gained renown due to the way its tube gain makeup amp colored everything in a very musical way (even with no EQ settings engaged), and its unique capability to boost and cut the same frequency simultaneously. When used correctly, this boost/cut function can significantly enhance seemingly anything (particularly low-end instruments like kick drums and bass guitars) by adding depth and impact without the typical mud and masking of frequency buildup. The Pultec EQP-1A found in the UAD Pultec Passive EQ Collection features all the trademarks of the original, with additional high- and low-frequency boost settings and extended frequency options for the lowpass filter.
MEQ-5
The human ear is most sensitive to midrange frequency sounds, so any Sweetwater studio engineer will tell you that properly dialing in your 300–5,000Hz sounds is crucial to any recording. The Pultec MEQ-5 was designed to handle this “power region.” Its three sets of independent controls (two Peak controls and one Dip control) offer signature Pultec simultaneous boosting/cutting options for sculpting your vocals, guitars, synths, and anything else that lives in this range. By using the MEQ-5 in tandem with the EQP-1A, you’ll find it easy to intricately shape and add beloved Pultec magic to instruments with a wide frequency range, such as a piano or extended-range guitar.
HLF-3C
With only two controls for low cut or high cut, turn the HLC-3C on and then turn one or both knobs to whichever frequencies you feel an instant 12dB cut. The HLC-3C is fantastic for getting rid of troublesome hiss or rumble and creating special effects like re-creating the sound of an old lo-fi recording or someone speaking on a telephone.
Get up and running with exclusive artist presets
The iconic Pultec boost/cut capability has a sound like nothing else, but it can take some time to learn exactly where the sweet spots are for different instruments. To speed up this process, UA added preset settings from some noted Pultec users, such as Neal Cappellino, Jacknife Lee, and John Paterno, allowing you to learn and benefit from their expertise.
