Two Notes Torpedo Captor Reactive Loadbox DI and Attenuator - 16-ohm
Two Notes Torpedo Captor Reactive Loadbox DI and Attenuator - 16-ohm Reviews
Play your tube amplifier at neighbor-friendly volume levels, or play without a speaker cabinet at all, with the Two Notes Torpedo Captor reactive load box, direct box, attenuator, and speaker simulator. Based on the acclaimed Torpedo Reload, the Torpedo Captor is your solution for attenuating your amp's volume as well as sending your tone direct to a PA or recording system. Suitable for amps up to 100 watts, the Torpedo Captor's -20dB attenuator allows for cranked-amp tones at lower volume levels. And built-in speaker simulation allows you to record the full sonic intensity of your amplifier direct to your DAW, without miking up a speaker cabinet.
Absolute Must Have if you want to record your tube amps silently
I have a couple of tube amps but I am not in the position to hook them up, dampen the sound, and then play loud at odd hours due to my work schedule. This lets you plug your amp's speaker output and tames it so you can plug into an interface on your laptop or computer. It's the sound of the tube amp itself so be sure to grab an IR loader or cabinet simulator so your recordings don't sound like a hornet's nest. Could not be happier with my purchase
Attenuator for Blackstar Studio 10
I use this to attenuate my Blackstar Studio 10 for quiet play in my bedroom. I can crank the amp into the sweetspot and not bother my sleeping wife. I don't regularly use the direct out but I tested it with my tascam mixer into some JBL studio monitors and it sounded great. The cabinet emulation was a tiny bit different from the real speaker/cabinet but to my ear sounded very good. The manual says it is based on a British Vintage 4 X 12.
Just what I needed
I got this to work with my PRS HDRX20 amp. Like many have stated in other reviews the Torpedo does a great job at taming the 20 watts of power from my amp! So now I can push full volume without neighbors two streets over being forced to listen to my late night Blues jams!!
FINALLY, I can practice and play in my Basement without disturbing everyone - and still get the sound of "feel" of that Marshall tone !
-20db
Makes my rig have a manageable volume for use when i'm not home alone. Does not get hot.
Does the job and does it well
Previously I purchased a less expensive device to attenuate my Friedman Runt 20 head. 20 watts needs to be tamed for the studio. The cheaper unit did the job but sounded somewhat dull. I need something that would sound as clear as my amp.
I own a Tone King Gremlin and I use it in my studio as well. Tone King has an attenuator built in. I was looking for something that would allow me to make those power tubes glow at a usable volume for my studio.
The Two Notes Torpedo Captor 16 is exactly what I needed and wanted. It works beautifully. I can't say enough good things about it.
Scratchy volume know, loud buzzing
I ordered one of these and had to have it replaced because the volume know was scratchy and would cut signal. SweetWater sent me a replacement. It also had issues with the volume knob scratching, and it had a loud buzzing that I could not get to go away.
This thing makes my amp sing without bothering my neighbors (Orange Rocker Terror 15)
I was running my amp at the 1 watt setting (bedroom switch + half power), now I've switched to full power and even at lower volume is sounds so much better than it did before. I really was not expecting to like it this much. Thanks to Jonathan for the recommendation, he never steers me wrong.
This thing rocks
I have a nice amp but kept getting told I was too loud this solves that problem. Great product.
Good! Just what I was expecting
I only use it as an attenuator and pretty nice for my room. Keeps things easy with my wifey. All good, soon will try the others features.
I really love it, but... lack of switchable attenuation over time has really become a negative
I really love it. It works fantastic, it sounds great. I love no power is required at all to use it as an attenuator only. It works fantastic with 35 watt and up amps. I have a 40W and a 50W combo that it's just perfect for. But on my small combos, it's just too quiet. The lack of switchable attenuation levels at first didn't bother me, but has grown over time to really be a negative and a distraction. You shouldn't have to get the Captor X to get different levels, especially if you don't need the advanced options of the X. Which I don't. Would have originally given it a 5, but it's a 3 for me now using it with multiple amps of quite different power levels. It would immediately be back to 5 if there was a level switch.
Pretty much garbage…
Not sure if I got a bad unit, but after a year and about a dozen different amps there is NOTHING that sounds good thru the Captor….makes even the best IRs sound like trash.
I'm sure it will make a nice, expensive paper weight, tho….booo Two Notes
Loved the idea, but not recording quality
I really wanted this to work to build a quieter home studio and record directly from my tube amp to DAC. The sound quality just wasn't there for me. I did contact both the vendor and Sweetwater support for help; but I was not able to get a satisfactory outcome. Since I spent weeks trying to get this to work, I went outside my 30 day return window and now I am stuck with this thing that I will never use. Using the amp and microphone was far superior in sound quality.
Outstanding bang for the buck for folks who don't need to load IR's on the gizmo
I bought this solely to work on my DAW late at night knowing that I could tag an IR loader on it down the road if I choose to use it in a live setting. It does everything it needs to well without breaking the bank.
Must Have
This is a must have for anyone with a tube amp to get that sweet sound at a low volume. Enables you to crank the amp heat up those tubes, but be able to turn down the output. Excellent product!
Just what I wanted.
This Loadbox is a solid investment for my home studio. I don't have the money or space to mic up a bunch of cabinets. So a Loadbox was an obvious choice to remedy this problem. The Torpedo is built very well. Bringing it on the road would not be a problem. It should hold up very well. The Wall of Sound software works very well with Cubase pro. The IRs given for free are alright, but you can get some great ones from their store for 10 bones a piece, or use your own. IF you are using this as a DI only, you don't have to follow the 16ohm load rate. The 16ohm load is only needed for the attenuation. All in all, if this unit was stolen from me, I would buy another in a heartbeat. Great product.
2 note torpedo
works great. kinda pricey
Great for Apartments!
Recently moved into an apartment so cranking my amp isn't really an option but modeling doesn't do it for me. The captor let's me keep all the feel of my real amp but record silently. The built in cabinet emulation works well enough but adding a cab IR is the way to go. I'm using the captor in conjunction with an Ac15c1 and a Mooer Radar for cab IR.
Taming the Orange TH30 Beast
I bought this to tame my Orange TH30. As you know with Oranges you really have to crank them and they are stupid loud. I live in a my own house in a subdivision so it isn't possible to crank. Even though the TH30 can go down to 7 watts, I've never been able to go past 1 on the volume without my wife or neighbors spazzing.
Got this bad boy and I can crank the orange to 1/4 volume on the full 30 watts and my wife doesn't freak. Really getting a great tone and being able to crank the amp. Haven't tried at the 7 watts but I bet I can crank it even further.
Get it to tame the Orange Beast!
Two Notes Captor
This thing is great; might actually be one of the best pieces of gear I've purchased this year. The 16 ohm version works great with my main amp which is a Vox AC15C1. With the Captor I can run the amp silently for recording or practice or I can flip the switch on the amp to 8 ohms and run it in parallel with the stock speaker. This is how I have been running it live. The built-in cab emulation complements the tone of the Vox amp perfectly and makes it easy to get a nice, consistent sound in my in-ears. I have not used the wall of sound plugin yet but will try to get that up and running soon. Overall this is a great versatile tool for recording and monitoring my amps.
2 Notes Captor
This thing rules. I don"t have anything bad to say about the unit itself. The built-in cab IR is great too, and sounds pretty good right out of the box. Although, the wall of sound plugin is a little glitchy. 10/10 on the unit though. I"m using it to re-amp guitars and it hasn"t once let me down.
Two Notes Captor
So far I have only used the -20db setting, which is what I bought it for... Brilliant!!! it does not screw with your tone and makes a Diavlo 45w amp playable at bedroom sounds. Even if I never use another option on this device it is well worth the money!!
Essential Home Studio gear
This was a purchase that should have been made a long time ago. The Captor is an essential piece of gear for the home enthusiast. I've been running it into a Focusrite interface and recording with Garageband and it works awesome. The WoS plug in is completely compatible with Garageband.
Must Have Two Notes Torpedo Captor (16 ohm)
This is the one box I don't think I can live without any more. The attenuation is perfect for being able to play my amps thru a cab and not shake the walls. The DI Out to an interface is great as the gain level allows for finicky interfaces as well as the built in cab sim as well as the Wall of Sound CAB sim software. Those are basically what I use this for. It sits between my head(s) and cab ALL the time. And it is usually plugged in with an XLR into my interface. Love this thing and the sound from the real amp and cab is hard to tell the difference with the -20db attenuation. Reactive is the way to go, Two Notes is the system to go with. Thanks Sweetwater for great products, great shipping and great support.
Great tool for home recording!
I am very happy I bought this little box of awesome. I use it to send a direct signal from my amp into my interface, and then add an IR for recording and/or silent practicing.
I prefer using this method vs amp sim software as it lets you dial in your sound with almost no latency from your interface.
Perfect for folks that live in a townhouse or apartment where turning up tubes amps to recording/gigging levels is not optimal.
load box Torpedo
So far so good I will have more info when we play a show next Friday!
Like magic!
Purchased to be able to record silently and in headphones with my Friendman head. This thing sounds fantastic along with the Wall of Sound plug-in. I am able to dial in a tone that sounds almost identical to my amp and cab in a room.
Previously I had been using an Eleven Rack (since 2011) for recording guitars. This will be replacing it for most of my tracking. I'll still use the Eleven for some speciality/effect type tones (for example, if I need to throw in a Fender Champ sound), but the Two Notes Torpedo will be used for almost all of my guitar tracking from now on.
The Magic Box
Let me start by saying , I've waited for something like this not like the cab clone which its really bad. I don't like purchasing the same stuff as other musicians, I'm always looking for something to make my own and this invention changed my perspective, I have all kinds of VST and plugins and the torpedo captor lets you use your own amp with different kinds of virtual cabinets. Recabinet by Kazrog its my favorite of them all not too fan of the wall of sound. My experience with the captor its the best feeling you could ever get plain and simple. This gonna make your recording studio or room into a beast, trust me you won't use anything else ever again. Yes ladies and gentlemen is that good.
Praise for a great tool
I preordered mine in June of 2017. Took a while to get since it came in September.
I immediately had need for it in my older Mac Based Pro Tools 9.0 setup.
Recording my 100 watt Lee Jackson Head and an old Vox head for my bands release for early 2018.
Running Wall of Sound with this has made this such an amazing tool for great tone.
Worth the money. I plan on trying it live to see how it does in the mix, using the cab sim.
Aaron Tremain and Sweetwater rock.
Marshall DSL-100 and Captor Load Box
Just so you know, I have no speaker cab tied to my Marshall DSL head. I don't need a cab with the Captor load box. This 16-ohm 100-watt load box with built-in Line-out and speaker simulation just sounds killer and it hardly gets warm in my studio. And I can always use the Two Notes "Wall of Sound" plugin if I ever need to change up cab tones. Also, if I ever want to hook up my 1960a cab there's a 20 dB pad on one of the outputs ( the other is a thru) to bring the levels down when needed. Its built like a tank and works well. It fits on top of the Dsl's head and takes up very little space. BUY IT.
The Captor Rocks!
This situation the best piece of gear I've purchased in years. Be able to silently record my tube amps is killer.
The cab simulation is O.K. with some EQ applied, but the Captor really shines when used with IR's. I'm really impressed with the Wall of Sound plugin. Very easy to get great recorded guitar tracks. I didn't like the attenuator with my amps so much, but that's not what I got it for.
You can't beat Torpedo quality and sound!
