long overdue review, GAS cured!! read if you are in the market for a Modeler

By Joseph F. from Bonaire, GA

Apologies for the lack of brevity, but in this economy, and for this price point, I would want to look at thorough reviews before buying. So I've had for a year or so now, rehearsal regularly and about 5 or six gigs, and honestly, and after buying numerous pedals over the last 15 years, reconfiguring my board, new boards, cabling power supplies, I just got tired of it ,especially when gigging, I promise ya'll.....The audience DOES NOT CARE. as long as it sounds good. Only other guitar players care about tone and pedals. I digress, so after doing research I bought this mainly because it was the new kid in town, and the quad cortex appeared like the buttons were too close to me, plus I lean towards my Strat in most cases, fender makes pretty solid products. OH forgot to mention I sold my HX effects to help fund this, great product, no amp models though, as well as other pedals and I don't think I'll ever go back hahah. To me, this is an incredible product. Very intuitive, I can build a preset within minutes, with very little tweaking. I recently had a gig in February at a pretty popular venue , did a sound check with the EVH channel 2 and IR, NO TWEAKING mind you, hit a chord and it sounded GLORIOUS through front of house. and for someone that literally LOATHES option overload, this is perfect, all the amps I would ever need, and effects. does it have as many as the competition? no but I would never use all those anyway. Does it have the touch button thing like the helix, nope...although cool, not needed. Does it have capturing ability.?......NOPE, another pointless feature. Most of us have one AMP, and I don't need to capture my mesa when this literally has mesa models in it. I've also tried things like the TONEX, but even then, when you add up the other pedals, the power supply and board you are still looking at a very similar price point, so in my opinion this eliminates needing a board and separate power supply to power all those other pedals ect. At home I run this either 4CM or through effects loop of amp using the models as preamps, sounds AWESOME. And Fender seems to be pretty on top of keeping this updated and listening to users, I think I've updated it 5 times now.

I do have one gripe though (hence the 4.5 stars). this can be used as an audio interface, but when home recording I like to use my real amp/cab as a monitor and record direct, but playback was coming through my cab (which I didn't want) there's no way to turn this off in global settings, I literally researched and tried everything, after doing research I think it's built this way internally. Maybe it will be fixed in an update, who knows. Granted I could just record with my monitors, but I like the feel of my real cab, so to solve this I just ran one of the outputs to an external audio interface and the other to the amp/cab.

nonetheless, are the other modelers just as good, probably, I think it all depends on use cases, my buddy has a fractal he swears by, another buddy a QC....meh, just think about what your use cases are. If you need 1000 different models and capturing ability, this isn't for you, but if you want a solid piece of gear that you can dial up a great tone in a minute without reading the manual by touching a screen with your finger....I don't think you will be disappointed.

Just What the Doctor Ordered

By Sweetwater Customer

I made the decision to commit to a digital platform about 2 years ago after purchasing a small digital practice amp. My priorities were to find a platform that had a friendly user interface, a newer platform for future growth potential and tone quality. In other words, I wanted to grow with a platform while spending more time playing than programing. After studying the different modelers available over that time period, I chose the Fender Tone Master Pro. Frankly, I've never owned a Fender product until I purchased my TMP from Cameron Rae at Sweetwater, but, of course, the Fender brand is legendary in the music business which gave me some peace of mind. I've had it for about 3 months now and all I can say is WOW! The ease of use, flexibility and tone quality have blown me away! The factory presets are surprisingly good and the Cloud has so many well known contributors. The YouTube support is fantastic as well. Thank you Cameron Rae and team for helping me make my dream come true.

It does it all

By Nathan from Texas

Metal? Blues? Country? Rock? Praise and worship? Yes! After several years of firmware updates, the Fender TMP is a fantastic workstation. I use it every Sunday at church and couldn't be more pleased. The number of sounds and effects that I'm able to dial in quickly and accurately are unbelievable. After 28 years of playing, I finally went digital and this unit is absolutely my favorite piece of gear.

I can reach everything from John Mayer to Led Zeppelin to tesonant, rich, and cavernous praise and worship Reverb and delays.

I have played a Helix for over 2 years and this is a much more intuitive and satisfying platform in my opinion. Well worth it!

Perfect for my needs

By Tommy from Steamboat Springs, CO
Music Background: Intermediate

I was looking for a Tone Master amp but reached the conclusion that they each had something unique to offer. The Tone Master Pro includes all of the new amps so it was like getting four of them at once. At home I run it into a DAW and through a Quilter Superblock US (which can be rigged to be an FRFR amp/cab) into a 12" speaker cab.

My "secret" is to keep it simple: choose an amp, throw an overdrive pedal in front and a reverb and delay behind it. I can control the output with my volume knob and it reacts like a tube amp would (clean and quiet down low, overdriven and louder when turned up). I took it to practice once and it worked like a charm. The presets are interesting but almost unusable unless you want to copy 'n paste them into another patch and then tweak them accordingly.

This was a really good purchase. You can fall into "paralysis by analysis" with all of the choices, but it's fun because the interface allows you to learn as you go.

Amazing what the technology can do.

By Shawn from FORT COLLINS, CO

I'm a Fender Fan. I prefer the sound of Fender tube amps, and prefer to play Fender guitars. I started researching modeling amps, FRFR cabinets when my Concert 1x12 from the 80s was looking to be in need of a lot of work. I tested the Tonemaster Pro in a local store, and found it to sound just as good as the tube amps I had, or that were sitting nearby.

The encoding knobs on the switches really sold me. I thought of looking into Headrush, etc, but as I stated, Fender Fan. I ordered this beast, plugged it into the FR12, and haven't looked back. The learning curve seems a little steep to somebody new to modelling preamps, but it sounds a lot better than the Mustang series, and other combo amps with models, and is close enough to tube sound that I can't tell the difference.

What I’ve Needed for Years

By Aaron Z.

I purchased mine 6 months ago and I have used it almost every single day since it arrived. This is my first modeler and it's far more intuitive than I expected. I appreciate having a screen that shows an image of the signal chain. I have a young kiddo right now so playing loud is not really an option which means my tube amps have to sit quietly. This is the perfect solution as it allows me to be creative around the clock as reasonable volumes. I have no complaints!

Exactly what I had hoped for

By Kevin W. from DURHAM, NC

I have put off trying out the Tone Master Pro for a while, because I was afraid I'd get overwhelmed by all of the options. But I realized that I wasn't playing as much as I liked, because I was spending too much time tweaking my physical pedal board, trying to eliminate the buzz somewhere in the signal chain, figuring out the combination and order of pedals that would allow me to play all the music I wanted to play, etc. So I finally bought this with the FR10 speaker. I have not had to even open the manual—Everything is so intuitive. Case in point: Earlier this week I was staying at my father-in-laws and had about 30 min to play through headphones in the back room. In about 2 minutes, I was able to figure out how to play my music (Black Keys' "Delta Kream" album) from iPhone through the Bluetooth and create a preset to mimic Dan Auerbach's tone on that album. I could quickly swap different fuzz pedals in and out to find the one that sounded best. And then I was just playing. It was glorious.

The sound quality, to my ear, is outstanding. I mostly play Fender amps and I think those models are some of the strongest. The convolution reverbs are really good.

The built-in tuner is awesome. The built-in looper is awesome. And the thing is built like a tank.

A special shout-out to Sweetwater's Brad Irvan, who has been such a great guy for years and years. I think Sweetwater is probably THE best customer service-oriented company in the U.S. And people like Brad are the reason why. It's what keeps me coming back to buy through Sweetwater and recommend it to friends.

TMP Dec. 2025

By David C. from Southern Oregon
Music Background: Thrash and Punk

As an avid Thrash Metal guitar player, I was concerned about the TMP's potential to let me down. It seemed to be lacking in high gain choices. It's overloaded with anything Fender, naturally. But with the recent firmware updates, it packs more than I expected. I can get some really nice distortion tones. There's enough options to keep me happy. Especially in the IR options. The touch screen impressed me. It's very easy to use. The different volume options are great!! The presets are pretty good, I also get useable tones Everytime I create a preset. I'm leaving Tonex for the TMP with much joy. It just sounds good and is easier so much easier to use. Keep the firmware updates coming!! We need more mic options!!

Highly giggablen

By todd from central coast

Long time tube amp user, recently migrated to modelers for convenience on gigs. So easy to run one xlr to an frfr or small pa cab, the other to a snake for FOH. But, getting a sound that I was happy with proved challenging. Tried Fractal two different time, never could dial out the fizz without killing the tone. My go-to base sound is edge of breakup, don't have any need for high gain on my gigs.

Moved to Quad Cortex and got closer. I did find I needed to do high cut on the IR all the way down to 4-4.5k. And I also cut the highs on the global eq. It was giggable, but when I would record a gig it was just ok. When the new firmware dropped I decided to try the TMP. While I was curious about the synths, once I got it I found I didn't need radical eq cuts. I'm not a dyed in the wool blackface guy (usually prefer a Vox vibe), and first went for a Dlx and a Plexi in the preset with scenes. But I eventually found the Twin to be a sweet spot, the just use boost or dives to get different gains - no need for scenes and different amps. I just use a different preset if I need something particular.

Build quality seems high - better than QC (not crazy about their jacks), on par with Fractal. Workflow is quick (as is QC). But not having to work hard to avoid edginess is worth the price of admission. You'd figure that Fender should have the best Fender models. And to my ear/hands, they do.

The best piece of guitar gear I have ever purchased

By Martin L. from Charlotte, NC

See title. This is the best gizmo I have ever purchased for guitar in my 25 years of playing. For me, the ease of use and sound quality are what set it apart and made up my mind over the competition. The product feels and looks absolutely premium. You can dial in some great tone, but I hardly ever make it past the presets, I get lost in actually playing the guitar instead of messing with the device. I love this thing.

For what I was looking for - BINGO

By david o. from Breckenridge, Colorado
Music Background: Originally a pro, now a semi-pro

Previous to buying this, my other option was to purchase a '65 or reissue '65 Twin Reverb - an 85 lb or more haulage requirement. I've sorely missed the tone stack/output power tube sound my original Twin had (not the volume). I was determined to get the sound I wanted and was successful using the TMP. Plus, I gained on-board delay and reverb which sound good. There was an investment of time but the flexibility and simple user interface enables the user. My best sound is found in these environments - Right/Left PA system (12" cab on each side - or better) a direct to PA via Mixer(flat) connection. For small venues where we use a columnar PA I bring a 40watt TUBE amp x 12" Jensen that is set as clean and flat eq as it will go, no connection to the PA. The looper is a bonus on the TMP. Less weight, more flexibility, and optional connectivity capabilities. Very good indeed. AND - my back is happy!

Great sound but

By Avery B. from Galloway Twp, NJ
Music Background: Been playing 40 years

So i've had this unit for a couple months now.
The sounds, and ease of use are amazing tho the amount of gain stages in signal path can be a little overwhelming.
The not so great part after coming from Helix is thet at this time, it does not send or receive midi via usb or midi. If one is planning on using midi function by modern connection, this doesn't do it.
A far more problematic issue.
Last night was only my second performance with the unit. I carry it in a backpack. when i went to play, I noticed it was in tuner mode. i went to press the button, and the button had fallen off in back pack. No way to put it on yourself. Fender doesn't offer a service manual, and will refer you to a service center.
I've had my helix for 10 years and you couldn't break a footswitch button if you tried. These fell off in a bag being carried gently. If they are going to use such easily breakable parts, they should at least make that part user servicable.
This pretty much turned my TMP into a useless brick. It reverts to preset so if those switches are gone, no way to utilize scenes, or surrounding switches. If my livelihood depended on this unit I would be SOOL.
The good news, Sweetwater is amazing, and sending a replacement overnight. I am however concerned that these switches will be a problem in the future when warranty is over.

Perfection and simplicity

If you want to easily find the perfect tone and you're tired of having 78 pedals laying around, 15 patch cables, etc. Buy the TMP with the Tone Master FR-212 -- or, buy two FR-212 and run stereo. :)

Does it work with a amplifier?

It seems most digital processors work well when you use it with headphones practicing at home but when you plug it into an amp its not the same. Is this Fender Tone master any different?

You must get the June 2025 firmware update, this crushes the competition

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Playing since Woodstock

This is the unit that will crush the competition. You must get the June 2025 firmware update. Power, versatility, simplicity, beauty, elegance. Doug B Digital Den on YouTube has all the details with demos. Pete Thorn on YouTube has the superstar chops to demo the unit to show what a really good guitar player sounds like with one of these units. I uploaded a preset patch up to the TMP Cloud called Twin Reverb Plus that has Compression, Wah Wah, Virtual Capo +2/+3, Tube Overdrive, Blues Maker, 3D Chorus, Twin Reverb amp, Analog Delay, Large Plate Reverb. I can do a whole gig foot-switching these effects in and out. I run Output 2 set for a guitar amp to a guitar amp. I run Output 1 set for a PA to a PA. I set Global EQ to my preference. I set wrap-around so I can see all the effects on screen at once. I set Scene Changes to Maintain as per my preference. I turn the Tap Tempo Blinker Off as per my preference. I use the Tow Switch to turn Virtual Capo On/Off. I use different Colors for the Script Button Rings (Bright/Dim/Off) as per my preferences. I use Custom Script descriptions as per my preferences. I put the TMP on a computer stand to have it close to me so I can clearly see the Hi-Res screen. I have the Toe Switch and Expression Pedal on the stage floor or studio floor. At home I plug my TMP into a 32 inch monitor to edit with pleasure. I make a short list of favourite patches from the 504 patches in My List. I have a second TMP to experiment with at home. I have my main TMP for stage and studio with road-tested patches, and no surprises. I purchased a Fender Pano Verb amp to hear a 15" speaker paired with a 10" speaker in stereo. I am looking forward to a Pano Verb preset in the next update along with the Supersonic amp which is already in the free Fender Studio app. I am also looking forward to making more use of the SD card with more extensive looping.

Really pleased with this modeler

By Josh M. from Maryland

Have had the Tonemaster Pro about 6 months now and practiced and gigged with it regularly over that time. I chose this over other units for the ease of use and it met my expectations there. But was pleasantly surprised with the fantastic sounds too. More than enough amps & effects on tap for me. I'm really pleased with the tones I can get out of it with any of my guitars, playing through the Tonemaster FR-12 speaker. Appreciate the regular firmware updates and new amp/effects Fender has been supplying as well!

Finally Found The one Guitar Processor I love!

By Carl S. from Chichester, NY
Music Background: Been in many Bands and have been playing guitar for 52 years

Yes like alot of you tone searchers have done in your musical life I have tried and had it all for the most part and at this point this Tonemaster Pro is my choice as of present. From Roctron, Digitech, ART SGX, Headrush, Line6, Kemper, Fractal Audio and whatever have you I have been through them including all of our favorite amps. This unit is absolutely fabulous for me and I Love it! Is it perfect, no nothing really is but the Fender Tonemaster Pro does for it for me my friends hands down. I'm not going into what this unit all does because I would have to write a book about it. You'll have to try one for yourself to find that out. Thank you SweetWater for your help and service with this purchase particularly for Bob Mondok and his team which always have treated me well.

well I jumped !! and GLADLY!!

By david o. from denver, CO
Music Background: Ex-professional , retired from day gig and playing gigs again

Have now gigged with this emulator a few times. Per other reviews here on the Sweetwater site, one of the significant benefits is its UI. However, I bought this because I love the Twin Reverb tone stack and sound. It gets close - very close and my ears aren't bleeding from the volume I would be running a Twin at. The guys at Fender DELIVERED the goods here. Like all things there is a learning curve required to get the sound you are looking for but this is simpler, by a significant margin and geared towards the working musician. Other features I really appreciate is the EFX loops capability and the looper. Future updates, very good host software/editor, well built, very visible graphics, very flexible sound design capabilities - what's not to like???

I must have this!

By Ron from Memphis
Music Background: Playing for 60 years; semi pro.

I'm a pedal guy, but this is the first modeler I've even considered purchasing since my band mate got his. I've got more invested in my board components than the TMP costs, so even though it's expensive, it's not that bad. My favorite feature is ease of use; it's intuitive which isn't the case with other modelers I've seen. That plus the fact that it's light will probably bring me over to the dark side!

Great modeler!

By NS

This modeler sounds fantastic and has one of the best UIs I've used. Like most of these platforms, there are some weak spots, but for me, this is a perfect way to quickly dial in the tone I want. I don't feel the presets really do it justice, as there is a LOT of variety in the cab sim portion. Most of the amp and pedal models are fairly accurate (or can be tweaked to get there). I extensively use stereo for guitars and this has quite a few great onboard effects and utilities.
Pros: extensive control over amp and cab settings, the convolution spring is literally the best I've heard, extremely intuitive interface and gobs of great effects. Mostly very usable for recording as well as live. Seamless preset switching, lots of IO to add additional controllers. Easy midi control.
Cons: some of the effects are a little weak, and I wish they had even more extensive stereo capabilities.

Overall this is the best modeler I've tried and plan to hang on to it for a long time. Also fender has been supporting it with consistent updates and adding new capabilities each time.0

Still Loving It!

By Tony B. from MN
Music Background: Learning every day

I picked up a Tone Master Pro a few months ago and love it just as much today as I did the first time I used it. I have a lot to learn and the TMP is a great tool for me to experiment with different effects and sounds.

I think its best feature is how intuitive the interface is. Set it up chains like you would in the real world, using icons and names that resemble their real-world counterparts, and that's it. Done. Want to interact with a virtual pedal? Press on it and use the rotary knobs to adjust. Want to replace it with a different effect? Press "replace" and pick something new.

The tough part of the TMP is the price. Yeah, it's expensive. If you get the matching FRFR you're into a price range that would pay for some decent tube amps and even some head/cab combos. I personally believe the fit and finish, features, and fact it feels like it could stop a bullet do justify its price although not by a high margin.

Concerning the quality of the IRs I was fortunate enough to AB against a Deluxe Reverb Reissue and it was spot-on. The 5150 amp sounds pretty good as well. As for all the others, I would have no idea. There are some questionably-useful presets but for the most part I think it sounds good. I'm less worried about accuracy as I am about whether or not it sounds good.

Phenomenal

By Sweetwater Customer from IN

This is probably the coolest single piece of gear I've ever owned. It does take some tweaking to get what you want, but it can play *everything* and it's incredibly convincing. I've owned actual Princetons, Deluxes, and 5150s and the models are fantastic for those. The effects are also great.

For $ (TMP plus 12" FRFR speaker) you get a piece of gear that can gig any genre of music, act as an interface for your DAW, a pedalboard, looper, tuner. You can even do tons of things that you can't really do with a standard amp setup. For example, you can hit a button and turn your Deluxe's volume up to hit the tubes harder without actually increasing the output volume, or you can choose exactly how much to increase the output volume.

I've only scratched the surface but this thing is the most fun I've ever had with electric guitar. The possibilities are endless and Fender has done a great job of improving the selection of amps and features with each update.

Although I considered all the other options, I'm perfectly satisfied with my choice. I wanted the friendliest UI and the best Fender tones because those are my favorite amps. The TMP provides exactly that. Get one!

I have tried and compared varies iterations of most of the higher end modelers and my usual response is even though they sound great it's to complicated. Fender Gets it Right This Time

By Jim N. from Detroit
Music Background: Part of the late 60's high energy Michigan music scene

I have followed Fender's modeling efforts from the G-DEC to the Mustang to the Tone Master Pro (TMP). The TMP hardware is a huge step up from the previous efforts. For the first time the hardware seems to be well ahead of the software and the software is very impressive. Right now the TMP is great and new software/firmware updates will only make it better. Highly recommended. Are you a traveling musician? The TMP is a solid piece of hardware that should travel well. Tempted? Buy it. You will get great sounds out of your guitar with this.

Super fun unit, but hard to get really good tube like guitar tones

By John from Baltimore

The Tone Master Pro is a fantastic piece of gear. It's very easy to use, either with the touchscreen or the computer app. It has parameters to adjust every aspect of your guitar tone. But what about the sound? The problem is that with a real amp, you get the sound in the room, and even when you mike it, the sound is passing through the air. Doing everything digitally, and listening through headphones, just doesn't sound the same. Yes, you can vary which mic is being used, and where it's located near the speaker. You can control every aspect of each amp, each effect unit, etc. And by using eq, you can get pretty close to the sound from an amp. But it's not easy. The presets show a wide variety of sounds, but most have way too much reverb, delay and distortion. On most of the amp models, you have to turn the gain down to about 1 or 2 to get any kind of clean sound. My normal setup is PRS into pedalboard, with MXR Dynacomp, Tube Screamer and Electro-Harmonix Canyon delay, into my Fender Bassbreaker 30R amp. It's very easy to get beautiful fat clear and overdriven sounds with that setup. But it's not at all easy to get something similar with the TMP. The Bassbreaker model they have has no easy way to get a good clean tone. Same with the Marshall emulations, hard to get a good clean sound. Most of the Fender models do have pretty good clean tones, but w/o eq, it is not easy to get a big, juicy tone that is easy to get with a real tube amp.

But this unit is just so much fun to play with, I'm keeping it! You can play music from your phone into it via bluetooth, and jam along. You can do crazy things like having an expression pedal control delay time, gain, pitch, anything you can think of. You can experiment with moving your pedals before or after the amp, you can have multiple amps, you can assign anything to the footswitches, which can have your choice of colors. You can easily download patches others have made. You can simulate expensive mics, any size cabinet, different speakers, multiple eqs, the possibilities are endless. You can also have different set-ups for each song, or for each part of one song. So if you play live, this can really make it easy to change sounds for each song. For me, it's not perfect, but the fun factor is so high that I gave it four stars.

Close and getting better.

By Sweetwater Customer from CA
Music Background: Pro Guitar, Studio owner/operator.

Start with my setup, TMP going stereo to a Mission Engineer two twelve FRFR cab. I've had it since about when it came out. Will comment on the EVH. I've played a real EVH III so know how it sounds when I set it the way I like it. So I set the TMP with the same dialed settings. Not even close. This happens with many of the other amps as well. A lot of times it's the bass. I normally set it around two o'clock and mids at ten o'clock. TOO much bass! I have to crank it down to like the mid setting. The amps should work like the real thing. This is why we switch to these modelers. We don't want to lung around the big amps.Fender tones do sound very good. The effects are average in my opinion. I previously owned Kempers, three as a matter of fact. It sounded
good but it's old technology. The up dates are getting things closer for the TMP but for the price there are better options out there. Though for the money $$$$$, the Fractals are the best choice IMHO.

Easy

By Clark from Montana
Music Background: Living room rock star

As far as I can tell all the big name modelers are capable of the same end result but no one is even close when it comes to ease of use. You literally don't need a manual everything just makes sense. Fender knocked it out of the park with this .

I’m selling my amps!

By Kevin B. from Warwick, NY

This piece of kit has inspired me more than anything I've acquired in the last decade . I don't use modelers usually, I have lots of small tube amps great microphones, pre's and interfaces. The TMP looked awesome and was on sale so I purchased. The sound is superb . Better than any plugin I've ever tried. It even feels like an amp when I roll down the guitar volume. I can dial in a sound pretty quick and record in seconds. Even the microphone input sounds great . But what surprised me most was the audio interface part . Route guitar effects, guitar dry di, vocal effects and vocal di to 4 tracks into daw. And you're off and running . Reamp any di track later change sound . Commit to the sound like the old days when records were records. The adda conversion sounds musical . My norm is apogee and antelope but since this I've used TMP for basic tracking . Fender hit it out of the park with the TMP. Pretty robust build too. Love it. Thank you Rob from sweetwater as always.
PS: be hard pressed to tell the difference between real amp and TMP in mix and stock presets are great .

Open a a whole new world.

By Rickker from Calif
Music Background: Intermediate

This is just what I have been looking for. Access to over 80 effects pedals and amps to no end. Easy to use and create your custom tones. Built like a tank and a very intuitive interface. Just wish it wasn't so expensive but if you just look at how many effects pedals you would have to buy it's about $ right there not to mention having to lug around all that gear. You have an entire rig in this small form factor.

By Chris F. from The Evergreen State

The Fender Tone Master Pro is an absolute power house of effects and amps. Also, the built-in tuner seems to be very precise and accurate! I believe that the functionality that you get with this product is well worth the cost.

Outstanding sounds and ease of use

By Matt M. from RIGBY, ID
Music Background: player, producer, engineer for 30+ years

While I am a tube amp aficionado, I was also an early adopter of amp modeling, owning a Line6 Flextone 2x10 amp before most people in my area had even heard of Line6. While it had a lot of limitations by todays standards, the ease of use was top-notch. While the modeling sounds have gotten better and better, the ease of use over the last couple of decades seems to have gotten worse and worse. Menus, sub-menus, hold down this button while turning this other button, and so on. Plus the complexity has gotten a little crazy, allowing you to get down to the component level of amps.

With the Tonemaster Pro, I feel like the "ease of use" is finally getting the proper attention again. You really don't need the manual to figure out 99% of the functionality. It's incredibly well thought out. I could have literally done a gig or studio session with it on the first day without reservation.

And of course, the sound quality is excellent. I have a Fender Princeton Reverb 12", a vintage Matchless Chieftain, and a Dr. Z Z-Wreck Jr...so my standards are high, and this easily meets them. While digital reverbs, delays, and modulation effects have been fantastic for years, I've always been a bit critical of digital overdrive/distortion pedals - but this does that very well also. I have some high end pedals that I can compare with and again, the Tonemaster Pro does an outstanding job overall. The collection of pedals is pretty solid. I do hope that they continue to add some more amplifier options though.

Often overlooked feature - the tuner that is included is excellent.

If you want to do serious looping - get a looper pedal, this isn't really set up for that.

If you want a great sounding modeler that is incredibly easy to use, has infinite configurability, can integrate with your existing pedals, amps, recording interface, and is sturdy. This is an incredible option. Yes, its on the expensive side, but if you compare to other options you'll find that the overall value is good.

Absolutely Top-Shelf

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: 30 years of playing on/off

There is a ridiculous push for "the best". Is the FTM "the best"? Who cares? Active musicians are touring with it and put out sounds millions are willing to pay for. They're doing it for the QC as well and Helix... It doesn't matter if it's "the best", it's as much or more than you need.

So why buy it?

The interface. It's so easy to create great sound and manage outputs, it's a natural for anyone just getting into modelers. I don't care if YingYang Bubbletrousers exclusively uses $ tube heads... I can get 99% of the sound at bedroom levels at a quarter of the price. Thanks, Fender!

Great interface and build quality, Great Sweetwater Service and Sales. but really disappointed in the tones

By Micah A. from Jeffersonville, OH

Sweetwater has been great to purchase from and deal with. Kudos to my sales engineer Jeremy Kaiser!

I don't write many reviews but I wanted to give my first impressions on the Fender Tone Master Pro. I watched many videos on this unit and liked the sounds I heard. So when it went on sale I decided to go for it. I normally connect my FX to my tube amps via the 4 cable method. I had recently setup my GT-1000 Core with the sims and cabs to test through my PA speakers and got a decent sound (not as good as my tube amps but pretty good). So I thought the Tone Master Pro is probably better than the GT-1000 and I loved the user interface (still do) and I bought it.

But when I started going through the sounds and building a patch from scratch, I realized it was not for me. I could not get it to sound as good as my GT-1000 going through the JBL EON 715 PA speakers I was using. I am sure someone will point out this or that, but I didn't have this first impression with the GT-1000. I didn't immediately think wow, this sounds awesome, but it sounded halfway decent for what it is with minimal tweaking. Not so much for me with the Tone Master Pro. If I have to put that much work into a unit just to try to get it to sound as good as a unit that is almost 1/3 the price, then something is wrong. Not to mention, I just wanted it to sound as good as the GT-1000, not my actual Fender tube amp, and it did not come close. To be fair, the Fender clean amps sounded pretty good, but the distortions and overdrives are what I didn't like, whether from the amp models or pedals.

I did not try to record with the Tone Master and I suspect that is where it probably shines as many of the Youtube videos I watched were the Tone Master going direct into an audio interface. And I will bet it will sound better going through Fender's FRFR amps as well. But going into my JBLs it did not sound no where near as good as the Boss GT-1000.

My final thoughts... Great build, features and UI, but the tones definitely need to be better, and better for the price point. No matter how good the positives are, if it doesn't sound good to you then nothing else matters.

Fender Tone Master Pro is Awesome

I can't say enough good things about the Tone Master Pro. It's been amazing so far and I look forward to using this for years to come. I also have a Line 6 Pod Go and the Fender Tone Master Pro is much better in my opinion. Big shout out to Sweetwater for awesome customer service!

Love it!!!

By Andy P. from Valdosta, Ga

This is the one for me. I've had the Helix floor for a while and never could get satisfied with the clean-breakup tones. I would get close but just not quite there. The Fender Tone Master Pro does it for me. I can't explain it but it just sounds, "right". I love the size, the layout, and the touchscreen. It is way easier to navigate. The only thing that I do not like and I'm hoping that Fender will fix in an update is how long it takes to boot up (almost a full minute). That seems like forever when your ready to play.

I run my main out direct to PA and my second out to my Headrush FRFR cabinet. It's awesome!

Fender Tone Master multi effects unit

By Michael W. from Carmel, IN

I read a review where someone said if Apple designed effects it would be like this. I agree. I have not read the manual/quick start guide yet I'm modifying the presets to make them my own. I have owned six different modellers/profilers previously to purchasing this and I'm fluent on Apple devices and DAW's, I use LUNA at present, so I'm no noob in this regard. In some respects this is like a heavy, thick laptop with a built in touch screen and multiple analog input dials on the face of it. The ins and outs on the unit are second to none - I would say one could easily rule the Earth with the connectivity provided on this device. The stereo headphone output is pristine - no afterthought there. Playing with headphones with a guitar plugged in is quite the experience. Some on here say the British amps are not well rendered but I say, "tosh". I find they do need to be dialled in just as a few of the Fender amps needed that final boost into Nirvana via the extraordinarily intuitive GUI. This is it for me. I did not have that certainty about any of the other units I've tried. The only thing I've discovered that is not rock solid is when the left upper dial is spun rapidly, the presets don't keep up - they fall behind. But when choosing presets via the foot switches it seems to be instant. It holds 504 presets so that works for me. - Michael.

Finally!

By Brian L. from LAKELAND, TN

I've been playing guitar for 45+ years. I've been on a quest for the best amp modeler for several years. Without naming brands, I have tried 4 other high end modelers before trying this one.

I feel with the Fender Tone Master Pro I've found the best combination of user interface and sound quality.

I subscribe to the KISS (Keep it Simple, Stupid) school of guitar tone. I hate "tweaking" my tone. Give me a '50s Tweed Deluxe with a volume and tone knob and I'm a happy man. But, the current group of people I'm jamming with requires a huge range of different tones. I also need something compact and easy to transport, so a modeler makes a lot of sense.

This is a super intuitive product that makes building, saving and accessing your sounds incredibly easy. Sound quality is excellent as well. My favorite feature is the fact that you can set it up 100% "dry" - meaning just your guitar through whatever output device you are using, without any amps or effects needed. Then you can "audition" each built in amp or effect as an isolated parameter. If you just want to hear how a particular amp model, or pedal model, sounds by itself, you can do that.

I am extremely happy with this purchase and would recommend this to anybody for almost any application.

The best of this type of 'thing' for me

By Dean M. from Northville, MI

I've owned a Helix floor, a Neural Quad Core, as well as numerous pedals / amps. The Tone Master sounds fantastic, especially for Fender Amp models, is super easy to use, and compact enough to toss in a backpack. The Helix was fine for what/when it came out, the Neural a step forward in every way, but the Fender is the best of the three by far IMO. Sound, Size, Build and ease of use. If I owned a Neural, I would not necessarily sell it to get a FTM Pro, but anything older than that, yep..Great unit.

Great piece of equipment , but has a little learning curve to work out. Amazing flexibility to change presets instantly. Easy to change items on the computer or the touch screen. Works well with my Apollo 8x interface to connect to the rest of my equipment. Fender did a great job on this one.

It sounds great and is the fastest and easiest way to get the sounds you’re looking for!

By Tom A.

It is so easy to configure. It's the best UI I've seen in a multi-effect pedal. The foot switches are also knobs that can be used to tweak parameters on amps, pedals, etc. So, it's very tactile. But it also has a desktop app that looks and works just like TMP itself. They really got this right. The best part is it sounds great and there are a ton of amp, cab, and pedal options.

The more I play and tweak the Tone Master Pro the more I love it. It sounds great and is the fastest and easiest way to get the sounds you're looking for; you just have to focus on what you would have done with real amps and effects. It is simply easier with the TMP. Want to change speakers or try a new amp or pedal? It only takes seconds.

The Best Modeler Yet!

By John F. from Aledo, TX
Music Background: Long Time Worship Musician

I have used a Helix for about 7 years and felt it was time to look at something newer. I did a lot of research and settled on the Tone Master Pro, and I am not disappointed. It's even easier to use than the Helix, has amazing "out of the box" ready tones, and has the DSP power to allow me to do anything I could imagine.

One really nice part of the overall design is the HMI for the touchscreen on the unit is almost identical to the HMI in the desktop or iOS app. No need to feel like you have to run to the desktop to get easier access to all the features. Even as easy as the Helix is to use, the TMP makes the connection between desk and stage that much easier.

I have had a few different modelers in the past, I have used analog and digital pedals, and I've even build a few of my own pedals in the past (EE degree put to good use), and with all of that, I am most impressed by the TMP.

Tone Master Pro 10/10

By Dillon

I've owned Fractal, Kemper & Quad Cortex before ordering the TMP. The TMP with the latest firmware sounds as good or better than any other modeler on the market. The amps take minutes to dial in to achieve a great sound. Simply select the JCM 800 w/ a boss SD1 and the sound you'd expect to get is right there in minutes. Highly recommend checking out this unit if your in the market for another modeler. Being a new product, the amp and effect selection is still on the lower side compared to other products. However, I've yet to not be impressed by a model or effect in the TMP.

Many Positives, a Handful of Concerns/Suggestions

By John D. from Farmington, NY

I have a very positive view of the Fender Tone Master Pro, but it is not without some concerns/suggestions, in no particular order:

Positives:
1) Ability to quickly dial in great sounds, particularly on the Fender amps, which are much better starting points as compared to the Marshall amps.
2) User interface is very intuitive, and it is simple to make edits on the unit, and even easier when using a computer, iPad, or iPhone as a controller.
3) Size and weight are fantastic.
4) Foot switch dials are a creative and easy-to-use alternative to more buttons/knobs.
5) Bluetooth connectivity for controlling the unit and streaming music (I am a home user, so bluetooth streaming is important to my use case).
6) USB-C connectivity (it is 2024, and I use USB-C as an initial deciding point when buying any electronics).
7) Looper available on all presets.

Concerns/Suggestions:
1) The touch screen is OK, but in my opinion an overrated aspect to its usability. It is easy to miss what you intend to touch when bending over with a guitar on your lap or strapped to your shoulder. Further, as a small point, I'd like to see the full signal chain on screen at all times.
2) I have had a couple of bluetooth connectivity issues where I've had to re-establish connection to my iPad.
3) I have had 1 boot up freeze.
4) I would like an easier way to access the looper than holding the foot switch for 2 seconds, it is easy to accidentally go between preset and stomp modes instead of activating the looper. For example, I'd prefer if the looper were accessible on the bottom right foot switch and tap tempo and/or tuner were accessible in a different way, but this is just my use case.

Overall, this is an excellent unit and I would suspect has a bright future. Fender has indicated that they will release firmware updates 2x/year to keep it fresh and competitive.

My Control Center

By Marcus
Music Background: Pro Level, 50years, Styles

I use my TMP as the control center in my rig, using the stereo returns to link with the SY1000 and GR55. I run the XLRs to FOH,1/4" Left and Right outs, to either the Line6 Firehawk amp,it has 5spks and well suited as an FRFR. The Roland JC 40 also works well, front inputs are stereo or the use of stereo returns in the back accommodate the TMP performance scenarios.

TMP has been updated as of June 2024 and so far I have not discovered any problems, that would be problematic in my performances at this time. I would like to thank Fender and cohorts for putting in the effort it took to make the TMP, it is well appreciated. I am glade to be alive after 50 years of playing, to have something to play with I enjoy.
They're other platforms I have used that were great, but I must say the TMP was very intuitive, easy to interface all my other components in a short time. Sweetwater, thanks for the demos and advice.

Good day.

My perfect modeler - Fender clean tone for days

By Basil from Texas

This is a home run for fender. The form factor, user interface, and quality of tone is simply outstanding. Without question the greatest user interface and now with the Bluetooth app interface for iOS/android you can easily do everything from your phone or tablet as if you are sitting right in front of the TMP. The amp models especially the fender amp models, are exceptional, almost maintaining all the legendary dynamics from playing, but with all the benefit of noiseless and capable of high gain without painful tube amps cranked. I have Boss, Helix, and Axe and this is without question my favorite desert island piece of gear. Caveat: I'm a fender clean tone fanatic, I think some are complaining of some of the high gain amp models, but they are obviously only going to improve with updates. Highly recommended

Could I give it 6 stars? I would

By Ken R. from Philadelphia
Music Background: Drummer turned guitarist, player for 40 years.

I have owned various Line6 modelers from the HX Stomp, to the Helix and Helix LT, and had a LooperBoard and a Quad Cortex. The Tone Master Pro blows them all away.

It has incredibly great sounding amps right out of the gate. The effects are great and with the latest update (June 2024) are getting even better. The spring reverbs are fantastic. The UI is intuitive, and most settings are defaulted to tasteful values. They just added the ability to save custom settings (up to 5 per device/effect) so you can have your own goto starting settings.

Output is versatile, and so is input. I've used it as the sound destination for my MPC Live II, and once configured it became the audio interface to record guitars. I've used it to stream bluetooth backing tracks, and jam over top of them. The looper now can be put in front or at the end of the chain, which is a nice touch.

I have rarely ran out of DSP, unlike my Helix, which I sold the minute I started using this unit.

I can take two guitars and run them through two different modeled amps and effects chains, so I can jam with my brother or practice with another musician. I can also put a mic in the second chain and do singer/songwriter gigs with it.

I paired the TMP with a Fender FR-10 FRFR amp, and it's just the best audio I've heard.

What are you waiting for? Just get one!

Absolutely blown away

By Greg from Newport, RI

I've been trying to go digital for 30 years but always came back to analog. I tried a DigiTech rack/pedal combo in the mid 1990s but sold it. I was one of the first to try the Pod xt Live when it came out, which was a step in the right direction, but sold it after a few months. My most recent rig consisted of a GigRig G3 Atom controller with a few analog OD pedals, a digital delay, tremolo, wah, and I finally took the plunge on the Iridium to be able to go direct and not have to lug around an amp anymore. This worked well, but the board was still big, heavy, and had to be re-dialed in every gig. I bought the Tone Master Pro on a whim to see where the tech was at these days, and was absolutely blown away.

While the stock presets are very gimmicky and overuse the effects, treat them simply as examples of possible signal paths. If you take the time and start with a blank preset, build a solid amp/cab clean sound, and then start to layer on OD pedals, etc., you can get pretty close to duplicating nearly any sound out there. The user interface is so simple that you won't even need the manual (although you'll discover even more features if you do read it). I was even able to set up the routing such that I could create a "monitor" foot switch to have onboard mixer mute the front of house, but leave the signal in my IEM--this is hugely useful if you play out a lot and take requests, and have to learn songs on the fly. You can quickly fiddle around and check chord changes in your IEM and then hit it back to FOH. You can even add a vocal mic with its own, completely separate effects and dynamics chain and mix the channels on board. So if you're a solo artist, that means you can ditch your mixer (and, as a bonus, your looper as well).

If you are a GigRig or Boss-type pedal switcher user, note that this unit also has four external effects loops so if you absolutely must keep a couple of your old pedals on the board, you can do it. And for those that still use their amp, it has 2 amp channel switching controls as well.

I have since sold nearly every pedal on my old rig, which MORE than covered the cost of this baby. No more fiddling with knobs and aligning them with tape marks every gig, no more amp, no more DI box, no more MIDI splitter and programming MIDI messages--this literally replaced 14 items, shaved about 10 pounds off of my gig bag, and cut my setup time by 50%. Oh, and I now have access to a TON of other pedals without spending any extra dough. Complete game changer.

The Best!

By Art N. from Leland, North Carolina
Music Background: 45 years as a guitarist.

I have used the Line 6 pods, Helix, and Quad Cortex. The Tone Master Pro is by far the best effects unit I have ever used. The presets are top notch, and you can find any tome that you could possibly need. The User Interface is what really sets it apart from the others; it is easy to use, and the large touch screen and computer application is far superior to the others. If you are looking to ditch your pedals or have tried the others I mentioned, give the TMP a shot! I also want to mention my Sweetwater rep Skyler, who has provided years of useful guidance, and has never been wrong. Sweetwater is the best of the best and I would not buy my music gear from anyone else.

This thing is closer to real glass than any emulator I've heard yet. It's the most user friendly multi effects unit I've ever used and sounds better as well. If you have the money for it, do it. The first two updates were needed and I can't wait to see what's next. The Tone Master Pro is definitely gig worthy

By Rick B. from Latrobe, PA
Music Background: Bar Band Weekend Warrior

I got the whole Tone Master package. The Workstation, FR10 amp & cover, Expression pedal. First thing I noticed was the quality of construction. Built to last. Then the presets. There's a ton of them and I'm sure I'll be using some at least as a base to tweak. But my top priority was to set it all up next to my main studio rig: 65' Deluxe Reverb Reissue head into a 2 12 Vintage 30 cab, and build a preset from scratch to match. Easy as pie. I added some familiar pedals into the chain and saved the preset. I've done 2 gigs. The first set of the first gig I did some minor tweaking of the FR10 tone controls. After that it was smooth sailing for the remainder of the gig and all through the second gig. So I really have only scratched the surface of what the Tone Master Pro is capable of. I'm looking forward to building maybe 4 or 5 unique presets to use for gigging and some custom one offs for recording. Also, I'm extremely happy that there's no velcro involved.
Thanks to Mike Conyers and Sweetwater for the expert advice and all around good vibe!

I Really love it

Coming from and analog world with a bunch of pedals that I still have, this is amazing , the UI is so easy to use and the sounds are great overall, for a new product like this and only one update so far is really great, there's a lot room of improvement, don't pay attention of all the Fractal and Quad Cortex hate that is on the web, this is a great and fun device , expensive sure but also the other modelers are, and all of them are amazing too, and they have years and years of updates with lots of features and TMP is only a baby

More Than Meets the Eye

By Shiro N. from CA
Music Background: Professional

I purchased this from an gigging perspective even though the majority of value may show in recording.
Initially, I was disappointed and was going to return it. But as I worked with it, the value started to show.
From an old school perspective of using it as a digitized pedalboard, it will require diligence to get to know its own characteristics in regards to sound. But if you work on it long enough, you can get to a good 'live' sound. Just expect it to sound different if you are still going through an amp or PA. How you use the universal EQ will be key. Also, if you are a singing guitar player, this is amazing in the way it allows you to configure 2 serial line with individual effects. There is so many possibilities with this even for live applications.

Very Pleased!

By Sweetwater Customer

I couldn't be happier with this. I do wish it had a FUZZrite model for that 60s Ventures sound (e.g. from the Knock Me Out album), but I can get it dialed in pretty close. I'm running it into the Normal channel of my Master Tone Deluxe Reverb amp with the Output Power switch set to full. At the low volume at which I play, I don't detect that the amp colors the sound much, if at all, so I'm thinking I don't really need to get the FR-12 amp to go with it. This thing is really fun to play with!

So much to like yet one basic feature absent

By Eric O. from VA, USA
Music Background: Tone Chasing for over 50 years

I have been through the gamut of modelers. Owning some of them 2-3 times. Nothing comes close to my board build for my tone. With that said, I was excited for this unit.

Pros: First let me say it seems well built and the interface is intuitive and one of the easiest I have ever used.

Cons: I am baffled and perplexed at the cost of this unit that there is no way to import/export to your PC. The only way to save a build, setlist, etc. is through the Fender cloud. It is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. On top of that, the cloud failed constantly for me. Called Fender tech support and had a guy argue with me about how its new and its the first foray into modeling, blahh, blahh, blahh. I told him you left one of the most crucial functions in a modeler. Every modeler has this ability, I am utterly baffled. There work around was to tell me that its possible my Fender account is so old that its not updating yet I can see it in the TMP software and the cloud link that I am logged in. There solution, create a new email account and try that!!

Then I was told at some point they hope to patch it out to import/export. This is a day 1 necessity!
I lost it with Fender and I the unit is going back. I think I am finally resigned to be that "guy". In the words of Joe Walsh " I 'm an analog man in a digital world". On top of all this there is way too much bright everywhere. Adjusting the EQ didn't help. I got some decent tones out of the clean but the gain channels were garbage. Before everyone points to Pete Thorn's video, remember he even said he went 4 cable and looped his head and some pedals in.

Final note: If your new to modeling get a Helix floor or spend a few hundred more and get a FX9. The Helix is hands down the best bang for the buck and the most stable. If you own a modeler and are thinking about the TMP, think again and keep what you already have. You are not missing out on anything.

Excellent sound, excellent interface

By Dave from Seattle
Music Background: 40 years

As a tube amp zealot for the past 40 years, I started looking at some of the latest guitar effects processors with a lot of bias (pun intended...for you tube amp guys) but found them to be surprisingly good. I bit the bullet and purchased the TMP along with the pedal and Fender FR-10. I was so impressed with the sound right out of the box that I decided to piss off the sound guys and use it in a gig the next night (no kidding, got it Friday night and played a gig Saturday night). However, as with any gear, there was some growing pains as I learned the interface and made several classic mistakes that first night...like not having the pedal set up correctly as a volume pedal, getting lost on how to get back to the last patch, etc.
Ok, so with that introduction, I've used it for 10+ gigs and absolutely love it! I've read reviews that knock the sound as not being exactly like the real amp and that's probably right, but I don't really care if it's not perfect if I like the tone and what I can do with it. Like with other emulators, I've been able to find several sounds that are close to what I want in either the presets or through the Fender Cloud Library and tweaked those to my liking. I've built a few patches myself but I've found it a lot quicker to just use what someone else came up with and change a few settings/effects to make it purr.
Here are a few notes:
-Don't try to run it through another amp, it will sound like crap. Use an FRFR (like the FR-10, some other one like HeadRush, or straight to the board with the XLRs like I do) and it will sound incredible.
-If you set up the pedal as a volume pedal, be careful because when you save the patch, it saves the volume level you are currently at. AND, the volume pedal won't be active until you move it after selecting the patch. In other words, it doesn't work like a volume pedal prior to the amp.
-The interface for live performance is outstanding--they actually put a lot of thought into it. You can set up each song with the patches that you want then import the songs into a set list. The other cool part is that you can label the songs like you want--I include the song's key and tempo. There's also a place for notes so you can add something about a song so you don't forget it. When live, you have a list of the songs in bold and footswitches for "next song" that bring up the patch (that can be labeled too, like "Chorus 2" or "Solo." Pretty dang cool, but I highly suggest you practice in that setting before a gig or you'll mess up like I did.
-The Cloud library and backup capability is great--you can backup your presents and songs when ever you want.
-One thing I didn't like about some of the other processors like this is that they muddied up the guitar sounds. I play a 335, LP, and Tele and I can still hear the differences with the TMP--they each sound like they should through the amp/setup I'm using. This probably doesn't sound like a big deal but I was pretty disappointed with some of the others I've played through where the unique sound of each guitar was lost.
-On the down side, there are a few effects that don't work quite right and make some quirky sounds but I'm sure they're fix that in a few updates.
-I needed a case for it but unfortunately when I purchased the TMP, there were very few options. I ended up picking up a 24in Harmony hard case for it, modified it a little (took off the shelf for mounting pedals, drilled holes, etc) and it works pretty dang good. There are some pics of it included below both with the board in the case and on the floor.

Overall, great product and looking forward to seeing what else Fender dumps into it via updates!
Thanks for another great buying experience Aaron!

Wow What Times We Live In!

By Paul B. from Clifton, VA

Im 56 years old, coming from an analog rig which includes a very heavy tube amp and pedal board for my band's gigs. A month or so ago, after a particularly difficult load in at a small gig, I decided to see what could be done to make life easier for these smaller gigs. I knew modelers exists and was thinking I'd look on the Sweetwater website and just buying the cheapest Line 6 (or whatever) floor modeler and go straight into our bands PA for small gigs. Easy, done and done....BUT, you know how it is, the more I researched the more impressed I became with the amazing gear that is out there. I had no idea how far the technology had come and started drooling over the the newer modelers from Headrush, Line 6, Quad, etc. I started thinking more seriously about modelers, what I needed, and wanted. The Fender Tone Master just happened to have come out and despite its price tag I was drawn to the intuitive user-face immediately. After watching a LOT of videos on comparisons to different models I pulled the trigger on the TMP. Wow what a fantastic product. Huge overhead and power, sounds amazing, and this is only the beginning. Cant wait to see what updates are coming from Fender for the TMP in the near future. Only downside (if you want to call it that) is this machine has much more than what I will ever need for gigs and it's easy to go down tonal rabbit holes for hours at a time. Ive learned that less is more. Still its nice to have the ability to make thinks as simple or complex as you like. Im sure all the modelers out there have their pros and cons but the TMP really does seem to be most intuitiuve for someone new to modeling.

Perfect

By Sweetwater Customer

Does everything I want it to and sounds great doing It! I have played it through a Marshall MG50FX,studio Monitors, and the F-12 cab. It just blows me away how clean and professional it sounds. It also has more options to us then most people will need. The fender amps sound beautiful with reverb and delay. The high gain amps sound tube llike and will get as loud as you want it! I am really surprised how good it sounds and I have had it for about a week. It's easy to use light weight. Perfect for practicing at home or out with a band. I would recommend it for sure. Thank you Wayne Wildman for your help and with my order!

Better than I expected.

By Mark from Moneta, VA

I must say, I am very pleased with this unit. I have gone through a couple other modelers in the past, and I was not sure if this was going to be any better. So far, I love it! I am a hobby guitarist, and I play in some worship settings about once a month. I sold my Line 6 Helix a few years ago because (for me) it was just too much, and too complicated to dial in the sounds I was looking for. IMHO, the Tone Master Pro has very good sound and it is exponentially easier to use than the Helix. The interface is fantastic.
That said, I was hesitant to make the move. I watched a ton of reviews. Some great, some good and some not so good. The biggest issue I saw in the negative reviews was that the presets needed to be tweaked. Well, they are very easy to tweak! The amps and cabs sound good (to me). And I don't need 200+ options to choose from. I am also very happy with the available effects. Like I said, the unit is better than I expected. Time to sell a bunch of pedals and a couple amps!

By Chris from NE
Music Background: 18 year guitarist.

The TMP is the best modeler I have ever used. The amp models and effects are very responsive and trick me into thinking I am playing through a real amp and pedal board. The expression pedal makes things even more impressive. The interface is set up with the gigging guitarist in mind. SOO easy to adjust and tweak on the fly. If you're considering this DO IT!

Beginner Friendly Modeling

By DB from Washington

There is a trend of being the first person to own something means you're the beta tester and this product is no different as of Nov 2023. I do think this modeler produces tones that are extremely similar to the tone master physical amps (borrowed the twin and previously owned the deluxe). I had a few issues when using an fx loop, this was mostly resolved in the first patch, but I also noticed some odd behaviors with a few of the built in effects. After a bit of digging on the gear forums, I found others with similar issues. I still think Fender will pull through and give this thing updates, and in that case, I may purchase it again in the future. I just decided for me, it's the wrong time.

Fender tone master pro

I'm just a home guitar player, but this unit is amazing. Great tones, amps, pedals, cabs. Watched several YouTube videos on this before I bought it, and I can say this thing is super simple to operate without reading a manual, great UI! If Fender keeps up with updates, this has a lot of potential for any musician. Best floor pedal/ amp modeler I've used to date.

By Mark from Ferndale, MI

Longtime Kemper user, but never used it to its full capability. The ToneMaster Pro makes fine-tuning your sound more fun...the reason I play music to begin with. The visual representation on the screen almost makes it feel like I'm dialing in a real amp. Will be getting the FRFR cab soon.

Fender Tone Master Pro’s Virtual Reality - You can never go back!

By John J. from Near Yosemite
Music Background: Surf music, Beach Boys, Beatles and British Invasion baby.

Once you've gotten your tone by actual amp-dialing and pedal-tweaking in Tone Master's virtual reality, you can never go back to text-based. It becomes an eye-popping yet familiar world that encourages trying something new (rather than dreading the cumbersome workflow required by old generation modelers)

Not enough amp models for you? It's software and it will come soon!

The only fix I'd like right away is for Fender to improve the touchscreen sensing and eliminate the false attempts.

I love this product!

By Sweetwater Customer

The modeling in this unit is very good to my ears. It has replaced my pedalboard except for one pedal that I run in the stereo effects loop. Creating new settings and modifying the parameters is so easy. Whoever designed the user interface on this thing should get a gold star. Also a shout out to Dave Cody sales engineer. He helped resolved an issue with my order quickly and got the TMP sent to me fast. Thank you.

Intuitive and fits where i am musicly

By Scott from Houston
Music Background: Hobbyist

I am a hobbyist guitar player who reconnected with guitar over the past 3+ years. Played through college and a bit after. In the last 3 years, for effects i have used BIAS FX 2, positive grid amps, quad cortex, line 6 multi-effects amp, and now the Fender Tone Master Pro. My search for pedal effects unit is over. The tone master pro has checked the list for where i am at playing and my knowledge of gear. The pre-programmed effects really hit the spot with me and the interaction with the unit fits me perfectly. Love being able to see pictures of the gear is great, being able to use the foot switch knobs to control effects configuration (like quad cortex) and not having to control through connect with smart phone/tablet/PC is a bonus for myself. The 4 channel loops and 2 expression pedals are awesome. This configuration allows me to keep the unit on my table to work with while keeping foot controlled effects and looper on the ground when working to setup entries that match my favorite guitarists' gear setup. Just so many connection options and a great travel unit. Fits in with my families camping. Very happy!!!

Even better than I expected!

By Jeremy C. from North Little Rock, AR
Music Background: Contemporary Praise band, recreational jamming with friends

When the TMP released, I watched for a few weeks to see the reviews as they came in on Sweetwater as well as watching YouTube reviews and demos. I have been using a Pod Go for playing out for about 5 years, and though I really love that unit, I had been considering upgrading to Helix; I really felt the Pod Go was me dipping a toe into the modeling world, and I'd had success with it and really enjoyed it, but was looking for a more powerful unit that could utilize more simultaneous effects. Then I saw the TMP release, and after watching plenty of demos and reading lots of reviews I took the plunge - and I could not be happier. The Fender amps in this modeler are incredible. I also have a Tone Master Deluxe Reverb, and this unit sounds just as good as the TM amp. The Bass Breaker amps are amazing too and I think are going to become my go-to amps for harder rock. The EVH amps sound great for metal, as do the Mega (Mesa Boogie spoof) and Vox clones. Honestly so far the ONLY amps that are just "meh" are a couple of Marshalls. I actually like the Silver Jubilee clone, but the Plexi and JCM 800 are only ok. But literally every other amp and effect in the unit are great. The interface is incredibly simply, and just stunning to look at. Within 10 minutes of unboxing it I was playing, editing presets, creating new presets from scratch with ease. I couldn't be happier with this unit, and I can't wait to see where Fender goes with it in the future. Next on my purchase list is the Tone Master powered cab, as a friend bought one and is using it with his Quad Cortex and he has been singing its praises since he got it. I'm currently using a Headrush FRFR, which are also only ok. I really only use the powered cab when playing at home, when I play out I plug directly into the PA, so it hasn't been that urgent to get a better powered cab, but after hearing the reviews of the Fender, I'll be upgrading to that one as well.

If you're considering buying the Tone Master Pro, you won't be disappointed. I know that it's a commitment at the price point, but I haven't been able to stop exploring and playing since mine came in! Two thumbs and five stars up!

Awesome unit... It takes less space on my pedalboard than my Fractal FM9 and way easier to use. With just a little bit of tweaking I'm getting equal or better tones than my Fractal. So it won me over. Just hoping Fender keeps supporting it with awesome updates and more Fender amps! Well done Fender!

Fender did a great job with the TMP!

By Scott H. from Port Ludlow, WA

I am not a fan of Fender guitars. Over the years I have purchased five of them. Some were made in the USA others made elsewhere. Of the five, I only have one remaining. And that one, I changed the pickups, the volume pot and added a treble bleed circuit. So it is not the same guitar that I purchased. When it comes to Fender, I have found that quality is hit or miss when it comes to their guitars, even the custom shop ones. (That is my opinion, you do not have to agree with it. You might think that they are all great.) What I think Fender does well are amplifiers. By that, I mean their tube amps. There is no mistaking the sound of a 65 Fender Twin Reverb, Tweed Deluxe, Deluxe Reverb, Bassman or Princeton. I have been a tube amp snob for many years. When Fender came out with their Tone Master Amps, I was curious. I was tempted to try out the Twin Reverb. I had a 65 Twin at one time but sold it because it was too darn loud and heavy. I loved the clean tone of it but it was too much amp for what I needed. The Tone Master Twin is very light compared to the tube amp original. I read the reviews and listened to samples but did not purchase one because, well, I was happy enough with my Princeton.

Onto the TMP itself. What got me interested in the TMP was the work they had done on the Tone Master Amps. Like many others, I watched the video reviews. Not all of them were positive. However, what made the case for me was the user interface. I had owned a Helix and sold it because I was spending more time chasing tones and setting up patches than actual playing. The Helix is a marvelous modeler, much more complex in operation than the TMP. It also has many more amp models than the TMP. But, really, how many does a person need? The ones that are on the TMP are enough for me. I hope they will put a Tweed Deluxe on it in a future update. I have a Tweed Deluxe already so it is not critical.

I think Fender, in designing the TMP, was considering what a guitar player needs when playing rather than what a guitar with a bad case of G.A.S. wants - which is every amp and pedal ever made. To that end, they have succeeded. One simple example is being able to assign a pedal to a button with gain, tone and volume settings on one button (as an always on pedal), and then, assigning that same pedal to another button with different gain and volume and tone settings on another button for higher output. When the song gets louder and the player wants more dirt for the lead then he or she can just hit the second button to get it. I could give many other examples such as settings for a complete set list or having different patches with completely different amps and pedals that can be used in the same song and seamlessly hopping back and forth as needed.

Does it sound better than a Helix or other modelers? Probably not. Does it sound exactly the same as the tube amps, no, there is a difference, not enough of one that anyone in the audience would ever notice. And, I cannot honestly say that in a blindfold test I would always be able to pick out which is which.

One thing more, the TMP needs a good FRFR. running it through an amp can be done but the amp colors the sound, which is fine if you like it. To that end, I think the Fender FR-12 is a must. (Yes, I know that the Fender FR-12 is not a true FRFR.)

The TMP with a FR-12 is a great combination. And, it definitely feels like playing through an amp.

Great!

By JK

I've been playing guitar for over 50 years and have owned more tube amps and analog effects pedals than I can remember. I was hesitant to join the digital amp modeling world for several reasons. One is that I have a ton of analog gear. Another is that I always thought that digital tone would be inferior somehow. Lastly, I'm in my 70's now and was worried that my old-man-brain wouldn't be able to digest the complexities of operating digital equipment. But after watching numerous YouTube reviews and demos of the Tone Master Pro, I decided to take the plunge. No regrets! This thing is awesome! The user interface is super easy to use. Most of the amp models seem spot on, at least the Fender models. I don't have enough experience with Marshall or Vox amps to give an honest evaluation, but they sound good to me. The factory presets are most likely all I'll ever need. A couple of other observations: One, I don't think the OD and distortion models sound quite as good as my analog pedals. Most of what I play is clean-ish anyway, so no big deal. Plus I can always add my analog pedals in as an FX loop if need be. My second observation is that the choice of FRFR or PA you run the Tone Master Pro into makes a big difference in your sound. I ended up buying the Tone Master FR-12, and it is the perfect mate for the processor. That's what I use at home and in practices. At gigs, I run the guitar through the TM Pro and into front of house, so it's the job of the sound guy to dial me in. I like that. One less thing to worry about. Also, I don't have to worry about the knobs on my pedalboard getting moved around during transport. Anyway, I know there are Line 6 and several other options for modelers. How well the Tone Master Pro compares to those offerings is subjective, and is something I can't speak to. What I can say for certain is that I love this thing for the tone and the simplicity of operation. I also like not having to drag my heavy tube amp to gigs!

Unit Is Less Than Expected

By Sweetwater Customer

After playing several brand guitars through the Fender Tone Master Pro, my opinion is that, Fender guitars sound better with this Fender unit.

It would have been much nicer, if the looper had additional time and a visual of a specific loop could be seen, and added as a step or fill in.

This particular unit is less than expected for the price of $, although, it is a unit well worth having in your arsenal.

I have a Voice Live 3 Extreme; a Canadian made unit with a much better looper at half the price.

Wonderful new tech!

By Dylan from Beaverton, OR

The Tonemaster is an update for me coming from a Line 6 Pod XT and wow is it easy to use. I just got delivery of it yesterday and spent hours tinkering with the amps and pedals. The software Fender offers is also easy to use and mirrors what is shown on the Tonemaster screen. Using the software via USB or the screen will likely be a preference for each person based on needs and if performing on stage but allows for crafting great sounds. I have only had time so far to experience the presets but will likely soon be building my own combos of amps and effects. The options are pretty in-depth too with mic'ing of cabinets including speaker/mic position. My own experience also includes running the output through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and wow is the setup loud! Fine tuning of amp or cab along with the settings in the Tonemaster for each amp and effects will be a lot of fun. I have barely started to experience what this thing is capable of but I am expecting this to serve my needs for many years. Thanks to Lucas for the follow up call and great customer service! I got a demo model on a nice discount and the equipment looked factory new with all included materials even including the protective plastic screen covers that ship with similar electronics.

TMP Pro

I'm mostly a vintage tube amp guy and have been for 40 years. This piece is way out of the norm for me, but I'm a Fender guy and it seemed simple enough to operate, unlike some other floor devices I've tried.

Day one updated firmware and just intuitively went to work and spent hours tinkering...much fun! I also bought the FR12 and it sounds phenomenal all the while being 27 lbs.

I look forward to the updates to fix out of the gate minor bugs as well as adding new amps and pedals, although I'm pretty happy just using the Fenders.

A great review by Mitch and Don, and great service by Collin Blue getting it here quick.

I am an old school, ex pro player.
I started playing back in the late 70's and always kept my rig as simple and minimal as possible.
Simple math.
A good guitar, amp and talent equal great sound.
I've tried many analog pedals over the years, even some rack mounted stuff, but nothing would totally meet my expectations.
As far as digital effect boards, forget about it.
Until I purchased the Tone Master Pro.
When set up correctly, the 4 cable method, it sounds amazing.
More presets and features that I will ever need, its very straight forward and most factory set presets sound awesome!
This is the closet that you can come to the perfect set up without spending a ton of bucks!

Ferrari of pedals

By Retired S. from Canada
Music Background: Playing since Woodstock

The guy who complained about not enough stuff is wrong and will be more wrong when the Xmas updates come out. Out of the gate, you have 27 amps, 26 cabs, 91 effects, 7 mics, 6,000 IR's. 4 Effects out, several internal routing options, two separate stereo outs, 2 expression pedals. It was clever to have a separate expression pedal, modular thinking. Units that have an expression pedal built in look too big and clumsy. Stage space is always crowded. Even at home, if you put the unit on your table top, the expression pedal does not belong there. Bass amps will be out with the Xmas updates. The 8 core processors mean expansion is guaranteed. Some amp models took months to perfect in the studios and labs at Fender. Playing thru a Tone Master Deluxe Reverb (with the updates) for a couple of years has proven to me that Fender nailed the sound, feel and functionality of tube amps, but with added versatility and reliability. All the processing power went into one amp, which appeals to me. Now with 8 cores in the Pro, Fender has expanded the versatility. The Pro was due given the groundwork laid by the R&D with the amps. 4 years of R&D, which we should be okay to pay for. People complain about price. If you are going to buy a Ferrari, is price your main concern? If price is your main concern, then buy a cheap compact car. If you want a smooth thrilling ride then get the Ferrari. This is the deal with the Pro. If you want the thrill and feel of great sound that can make your pants ruffle in the air caused by a speaker pushing a lot of air via the EVH Stealth preset then try the Pro. Also, the headphone output is superb, so you can have your thrilling sound and not bother anyone at 3am.

The layout and OS of this unit are just supurb, the tones are great, the ease of use is just silly. Fender's component modeling is outstanding, more of that please. While I am in the infant stages of really setting up and using the unit so far it has been a delightful experience to use. Pretty much a lot of the fun stuff similar to Helix (I'll take the Fender any day) and the best display color icon touch screen there is. Despite there is a claim of never running out of DSP, well you can as some of the models use a ton others are not much. This is supposed to have 8 core processors instead of the 4 like in the Quad. I like the size of this unit, it is robust and built very well, nice weight. I think over time it is just going to get better and better. The updates are easy and no hassle to install. Fender put a lot of thought, engineering and design into this puppy and I am sure in a few months or so with more updates it is going to just smoke most modelers. Most of the effects are quite good and usable. I stil plan to use a few outboard pedals like my Strymon as they are just more optioned. Unlike other units the front end loops on this are analog and will work with fuzz and what not or really just serve to make your drives sound like they should as others use all digital ADA based loops and they just change analog pedals. It's expensive but what isn't? I am looking to just use the amps out of it mostly but time will tell, the effects are quite good. You have to get used to unit to fully appreciate the quality and just how good modeling is getting. Many seem to comment they could add "profiling" to it because it has a mic input but that seems a rather layman accord of "profiling". Modeling is a tweakable version of the amp, profiling is just a snap shot of the amp at those settings, adustments on profiles is just not as rich and full optioned.

Almost

By Derek K. from ASHLAND, KY
Music Background: Gear Fiend

The Tone master Pro excels Imo at the clean tones and fender amp models. Looks beautiful and has a brilliant UI interface. In the high gain department outside of the EVH stealth though, it was a letdown for me. Lack of bass amps and limited amp selection were also things that left me wanting. I hope Fender continue to support and update this product with features and amps etc., but for the price point atm It just wasn't worth it to me. Other modelers / profilers currently offer way more for the same price. We will see in the coming months / years if this updates enough to be worthy of its price.

Everything I expected and more

By Jake B. from Dublin, CA

I watched a lot of reviews and opinions on this unit and feel they missed the point. We all have years of experience manipulating the various UI of the various modelers. I can remember the learning curve when I first started using Helix. It was somewhat intuitive but took some time. This unit is as intuitive as it gets. We can't compare the knowledge we have today of units we spent years learning to a unit that just launched. With that said it goes head to head with any modeler. The sound is exactly what I wanted and expected. I couldn't be more happy with my purchase.

Most Amazing Piece of Gear I've Every Played

By Jim B. from GARDNER, MA

This instantly, out of the box, inspired me to play riffs and progressions I had never thought of before. By far the best sounding piece of gear I have ever played through. Very easy to navigate and understand. Versatile and flexible, i found every sound I was looking for and then some. Highly encourage the Wah/Exp Pedal. Only real negative, i wish Fender would have supplied a padded bag for it...or at least offer one to purchase. This piece is easily a 10/10 for me. I'll be selling all my pedals now.

The Real Deal

By Warren from New Jersey
Music Background: Amateur

I wouldn't tell you this if I wasn't really convinced. From someone that has gone from Amps to modeling amps to tube Amps preamps and power Amps and to these modelers while still keeping a bunch of amps I truly feel the technology has caught up and I get total satisfaction from my power cab and tone master pro. It might even sound a tiny bit better with the fender FRF 12 inch cab. We truly live in great times for guitarists.

Impressive offering from Fender...stupid easy to use

By Derrick M. from Seattle, WA

Purchased the TMP along with the companion Fender FR-12 cabinet. I've had several hours to play with it. It's pretty impressive, especially when used with the desktop app. Only took 10 minutes before I felt like I was navigating it like a pro. It is stupid easy to use.

I'm a massive Smiths fan, and for ages I have been chasing the tremolo sound of "How Soon Is Now?". To see it as a stock preset (46 How Late Is Then?) made me literally squeal and jump joy!
