8 distinct delay algorithms
The Surgeon V2’s four separate modes offer eight completely unique delay tones to carve out your sonic signature:
- EQ: This mode offers two EQ’d delay styles, HP and LP, that occur in the feedback loop. This unique placement means that your repeats will get darker or brighter over time depending on which algorithm you choose, with LP delivering a dark, moody analog-style sound while HP brings the clarity.
- MOD: Looking for some warble in your delay? MOD mode’s Depth and Rate algorithms give you access to two classic modulated delay styles: Depth and Rate. Depth mode sports a speed that’s been optimized by Matthews Effects for the most utility, while letting you dial in your preferred depth. Rate mode simply reverses this, locking in a versatile depth setting and allowing you to set your rate.
- AF: The Auto Filter mode’s two delays boast a filter built into the post-delay section — perfect for fans of delay tones that develop and bloom over time. Like the MOD mode, the Rate and Depth AF algorithms feature a locked-in, optimized rate or depth, with control over each algorithm’s titular function.
- Dual: Double the delay! In this mode, there are two delays, with delay 1 being placed into the feedback loop and delay 2 triggered by delay 1, allowing you to create everything from pulsing polyrhythms to lush ambient soundscapes. The two algorithms in Dual mode are Free and Sync: Free mode offers a chaotic setup where delay 2 is completely independent of delay 1; Sync mode hard locks delay 2 into divisions of delay 1, yielding choppy rhythmic sounds.

Ramp it up
The Surgeon V2 boasts a unique “Ramp” function that, as its name suggests, ramps up your sound into previously unexplored sonic territories. How does it do this? By holding on the bypass footswitch, the Ramp control cascades your selected parameter into its maximum setting, and as soon as you let go, it releases back to its original point. This allows for plenty of in-the-moment flourishes, and like the expression control, you can apply it to any setting you wish and also precisely adjust the range of your sweep.
