Fender American Vintage II 1963 Telecaster Electric Guitar - Surf Green Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Alder Body, Maple Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, and 2 Single-coil Pickups - Surf Green

The Fender American Vintage II 1963 Telecaster is a remarkably accurate take of a classic solidbody electric guitar. The '63 Tele includes a balanced-sounding solid alder body, while its year-specific Pure Vintage '63 Telecaster single-coil pickups yield jangly, smooth, sparkling tones with a distinct twangy bite. You'll appreciate the effortless playability of this guitar's 1-piece, "C"-shaped maple neck and vintage-radius, round-lam rosewood fingerboard. The American Vintage II 1963 Tele is chock-full of period-correct appointments, including knurled flat-top knobs, a 3-barrel bridge, vintage-style tuning machines, and a head-turning nitrocellulose lacquer finish on the body and neck. If you want to own a piece of Fender history, then you'll be tremendously pleased by the American Vintage II 1963 Telecaster — it's a dream come true for '60s-era Tele aficionados.

The way telecasters should be...

By Dan Pereira from Millers Creek, NC on April 23, 2024

Very nice guitar with loads of mojo. Right out of the box strumming a few chords and playing a few notes with a simple edge-of-breakup tone sounds like it could go on a record or gig no problem. Fit and finish is good, fretwork is good, seems like a really stable and workhorse-ish guitar. Would I trade this for something more modern, or some boutique thing? Nope. It's a keeper.

Kyle Baker/Sales Engineer

By Sweetwater Customer on March 26, 2024

Hello,

This is in regard to my recent guitar purchase. This is my second guitar purchase with Kyle as my sales engineer in the past 10 months. I decided to wait a period of time before writing a review on Kyle Baker. This would allow me to have a better perspective on the entire sales process. My experience with Kyle over the past year or so has been incredible. I cannot put into words the professionalism that Kyle has demonstrated. As guitar players, we can be picky and challenging at times. Kyle's understanding and patience of managing the sale has been spot on. He understands the value of the customer and has built a long-term sales relationship with me. I'm looking forward to my next purchase with him. Thank you Kyle another great purchase.

Thank you,

Todd Rose

What a great guitar - I'm ecstatic and couldn't be happier

By Sweetwater Customer on April 20, 2023

I decided to splurge with this "new guitar" purchase as I previously bought a used tele - but due to serial number discrepancy - I immediately canceled that order and bought this new guitar from Sweetwater. Buy used they say - save money...

Anyhow - this guitar arrived - perfect beyond belief - no issues. I gave it the 24 hour period prior to opening the cardboard box - excessive and hard to do - sure - but well worth the wait.

I have an American Standard 2013 Strat that I love - and I wanted a Tele to be as different as possible (as a tele could possibly be) - and close to the original tele specs. I was concerned this guitar would sound and play just like my Strat - absolutely not - it does feel different, sounds different - and is wonderful contrast to my strat.

Finish is perfect.

Playing it in bed plugged into a simple little Fender Mustang - I feel I even play better. Sounds wonderful plugged into my Bad Cat Cub.

Highly recommended.

Wow... this guitar is top notch! I have had multiple Telecasters over the years and this one is special.

Love the concept of recreating a '63 Tele! To me that is incredibly cool and a big reason I went for this guitar.

The Surf Green finish is very nice and it sounds like a Tele should.

Check out this video I made for some playing examples!

Also, thanks to Sweetwater and my Rep Luke Herian for great deal on a great guitar!

Thanks

I played a 1952 Telecaster, I could not and afford one

By Bill Ballinger on October 26, 2022 Music Background: Former session worker, home/garage jammer.

I played the 1952 Telecaster in session work I was blessed to in my teens 20s and in the 1990s revival of rock, alternative. The Telecaster is deceptively able to interpret a style and just let go and it would make sounds with pedals that would blow you into space. The basic tone was able to do so much and still become a chameleon when you chose a pedal , it was able to do anything it was asked to do. And think of it, 1952 and this one in 1963 it is a great guitar. The 1952 had a nice comfortable baseball bat neck and you could bend, squeal, anything that you asked it to do, Rockabilly to Motown and beyond… This is a guitar that is a must have!
