Meinl Percussion TMCP Cajon Pedal
Meinl Percussion TMCP Cajon Pedal Reviews
If you're building a complete percussion rig around your cajon or simply want to keep a hand free, then this Cajon Pedal from Meinl Percussion is just what you need. Just stick your cajon in the cradle mount - any standard cajon will fit - clamp it down, and you're ready to play. The pedal itself is attached via a flexible cable, which allows you to position it where you like, and when drummers here at Sweetwater got to check it out, we were impressed by how smooth the action is. You can totally adjust the Cajon Pedal's tension, too, and the soft foam beater delivers a natural-sounding strike with every note.
Meinl TMCP Pedal
This thing is crap. Literally after the 1st time using it, the cable broke. I called Meinl and they were nice enough to advise that it had been redesigned and sent me the new cable and hardware at no cost, which was most appreciated. However, after TWO gigs, the cable broke again. It is a horrible design and impossible to rig/fix. Stay away from this pedal, especially because of the cost. Spend the extra money for a good one.
Wire Cable Doesn't Hold Up
After just a few band practices, the cable has already frayed down to the last 2 strands. In researching this, it's a problem across the board. Not worth the money as there is no easy or affordable repair for this.
TMCP Cajon foot pedal
There were no instructions for assembly or tension adjustments. Using trial and error plus on line videos were essential to have the pedal functioning as desired. As always Sweetwater was very efficient in getting the product to my door.
Poor Design
I bought one of these a while back, but I never used it. Started gigging with it a few months ago. In 5 shows, had to replace the cable twice. I have to retighten the cam after every song as well. This thing isn't worth the money.
Broken cable - twice!
All the reviews about the broken cable are valid. Unfortunately, the only replacement cable I could find had to shipped to the US from Germany. I paid 4x the price of the cable in shipping. Received the replacement cable and it broke within a few uses.
Booooh
These ship with a completely inadequate cable It broke a few months after receiving it. Avoid. The LP ones have the same issue. I've purchased a bunch for campuses at my church and have been disappointed that they are out of action shortly after purchasing with a host of different drummers, none known for having a lead foot.
Meinl Percussion TMCP Cajon Pedal
I could not be happier with this buy! The pedal is a workhorse! It is built very solid and durable.
Sweetwater shipped super fast and customer service at Sweetwater is amazing. My first stop when buying any new products for my music recording room.
fragile cable
Well built pedal, all the adjustments necessary but you need to be patient to find a good setup. You also need to know that a cable driven pedal can not be as fast and precise as a standard kick pedal. For drummers who like to play agressive on their pedals, you will brake the cable after a couple of sessions. Playing cajon with this pedal gives you more possibilities and you will have a good time if you don't push it over its limits. Spare cables are hard to find… if the cable is broken but its sleeve is still good, you can buy a 1.5mm bicycle brake cable with similar tip, there is no difference
It has an Achilles Heel...
This pedal assembly is built really strong, and has plenty of adjustment capability. But where the cable attaches to the mallet assembly, every beat puts more kink into the cable. I've had two of these Meinl Cajon Pedals, and the cable itself broke on each one after a very short amount of playing time, in exactly the same location.
This is not the result of overplaying or abuse; it's clearly a design flaw.
For the 3 or so playing-hours I got out of the pedal, it works really well. But that particular cable connection point is truly an "Achilles Heel"....
Built like a tank!
Strong, heavy materials and construction. Very minor lag when properly adjusted. And many separate adjustments are possible. I also like that the mallet pivots on its shaft to allow for very subtle strikes
VERY well-built!
I just got this pedal to replace my DW 5000 .... but ONLY because I prefer to play the pedal with my left foot. This pedal has several adjustments to customize for sound, pedal stroke length, and of course the travel of the hammer. It also has an adjustment for the hammer pad itself; full-on, or angled to "fine tune" the depth of the base tone. Very happy with it.
Not a good product
I have been through two of these pedals. This is not a good product. I used it once at a gig and the cable snapped. Sweetwater sent me a replacement and the same thing happened at the next gig. Don't waste your time or money on this piece, not worth it at all. Go with the DW if you are in need!
Over-engineered product and cable broke
Was so excited to get this pedal. Like others, had issues getting it adjusted where I wanted it. There are simply way too many adjustments than should be necessary. Once I got it set, took it on a gig where the cable broke. I then replaced it and the second one broke. I wasn't playing hard or heel up, just heel down playing basic patterns. Save yourself the time and money and get the DW cajon pedal!
Totally Disappointed!
I love Meinl gear and I own a bunch of it but this pedal is a major disappointment! First of all, it required a lot of adjustment to play. The cable broke during my first band rehearsal. I fixed it but had a gig the very next day and it broke again during the 2nd of an 8 song set.
The pedal is heavy and feels great but the cable is garbage!
Cable Broke Within One Hour
It did not take long at all for the cable to break right at the point where the set screw secures it to the beater pivot. I don't know if we can trust this pedal during an actual gig or not.
Trash
Cable snapped half way through the second gig. Did a repair on it myself (stripped back the outer cable and reconnected it) Then on the third gig the other end snapped.
The cable snapped at both ends where the grub screw tightens on to the inner cable.
nice pedal
Very Very nice pedal. Very robust and heavy. I enjoy the pedal very much.
Best Major Brand Cajon Pedal
Smartest cajon pedal I've had thus far, having broken the cable on a Gibraltar and quickly returned a Dixon. The design on this seems to make it less likely to break the cable (though other reviews say it happens, and it does seem inevitable) and a little easier to transport. Requires less adjustment too. So far, so good!
Cajon Pedal Review
I was very impressed with this Meinl product. I have used a few other cajon pedals in the past and they haven't quite matched up to the quality and sound of this pedal. the hardware and cable feels robust and sturdy, the pedal is very responsive and the kick head feels really neat and the material, in my opinion replicates the soft firmness of a palm and really gives the cajon a nice smooth sound. The way the kick head mounts to the cajon itself is a great design, having the tightening bolt on the back mounted to a wide bracket spreads the load out a bit so it doesn't feel like I am going to put a second hole in my instrument. All around great product.
Meinl drum pedal
I didn't know how easy or responsive the pedal would be and it's durability as well. However, I am in as a fan of this Meinl percussion pedal in durability and responsiveness to the beats required to do a 12/8.
It makes me confidant as a one-man band.
Impressed
Really impressed with the customer service. I received a phone call to tell me when to expect the product, and it arrived right on time. This is a gift, and I am confident in my purchase.
