Amazing Drum Trigger Module for Double Bass!

By Giovanni on February 9, 2024 Music Background: Beginner Drummer, Metal

Recently I have been trying to go hybrid with my acoustic kit and my old Alesis nitro mesh kit drum module couldn't register any of my kicks over 100 bpm with 1/16 notes, so I decided to get the Roland TM-2 drum module. It sounds great, registers all your hits, and extremely affordable! You cannot find another drum module with such great value at such a low price point.

Perfect for Hybrid Drum Setups

By Ehrin from New York on September 19, 2023 Music Background: Pro Musician

I've been using the TM-2 for the past 5 years and it has become an integral part of my setup. I have an RT-30K on my Kick, a KT-10 pedal next to my acoustic pedal, and a BT-1 bar trigger on my snare. This runs them all perfectly. I love that I can import my own sounds so I have my exact studio sounds with me wherever I go. As an added bonus, I also use the TM-2 to play backing tracks. This little box does EVERYTHING. I love the peace of mind of being able to use batteries should the power supply ever fail. (though it hasn't after 5 years of abuse) I also like the ability to copy the SD card contents, including the unit's backup files, to a PC or second card so I can easily transfer settings between units. (or set up a brand new one should something happen to mine) I actually have 2 of these, one lives in a road case and one lives at a rehearsal studio so I use this feature a LOT. If you're looking to add electronic sounds, trigger drums, or add backing tracks, you won't be disappointed with this unit.

For The Money This Thing Is GOLD!!!

By Griffin on December 5, 2022 Music Background: 29 years playing, professional from 2004 to 2015. Currently looking for a band.

I'm a veteran metal drummer (mostly Deathmetal, Grindcore and Blackmetal), so it's no surprise that I trigger my kickS.

I started triggering in 2005 after using Danmar Metal Kicks and wood beaters for the previous 7 years. I bought an Alesis D4, which is old, but it gets the job done. It also has one of the best kick drum samples there has ever been. The #4 setting, "Spiked". Anyways, it died.

I didn't know what modules were available since I had mine for so long. The TM-2 caught my attention initially because of it's name,"TRIGGER MODULE-2". I didn't need a drum module, I only needed to trigger my kicks. I looked into it, liked what I saw and bought it.

Here's a few tid-bits I have to point out, as a working drummer...

• It is small. Really small!!! It's beyond convenient on stage.

• It has an AC adapter AND it takes a 9V battery!!!! This is THE BEST THING EVER on stage!!!

• Is very compatible with a wide array of triggers. I made my own triggers with Ddrum Pro casings, inputs from old school Roland RT-3T Tom triggers and good quality 27mm piezo sensors. They work GREAT with the TM-2!! It also worked with Ddrum Pro and Pintech. Of course it works with Roland triggers the best. It has pre-sets for the RT-10K and of course the RT-30K.

Once you get the settings down (as with all modules, it takes some time) it will be very precise. I'm not young and invincible as I was in the days I began triggering, so I've learned and now use "heel-toe" technique. The TM-2 picks up me rolling 16th notes at 210bpm-230bpm accurately. I have even pushed myself to 240bpm and it picked up every hit.

The TM-2 has past the important tests with me and is absolutely worth the money. Given that fact I have no desire to trigger anything else makes the TM-2 the only module I need for now and the foreseeable future.

Greatness

Tm-2...

By Sweetwater Customer from NY on July 20, 2016

This is my second tm-2 unit. I bought 1st for kick and snare and loved it, so i bought second to use on my 2 toms. I run my own samples for the most part, but there is a bunch of samples on them that i also like.

yup

By Sweetwater Customer from clay, NY on June 21, 2016

great little module! only issue i have is you can't run a ddrum ddti to expand the number of triggers you want to use, it will only do 4 sounds maximum at a time. i just had to order a second to get enough channels to run my kit.

Little module with Monster footprint!

By Michael Sal from Buffalo, NY on November 24, 2015 Music Background: Professional Musician / drummer / firefighter

Has made my drum mix out front and in monitors sound "Studio CD" quality! First time I used it, band members said the were impressed and that it made our performance sound as if we where in the studio. One note and big piece of advise ... Make REAL sure your sound engineer had some clue as to how to mix the sounds with your acoustic set so as to "enhance" them, not over take them. This puppy will be a great tool for the guy (like myself) who is an apartment dweller and uses Silent Stroke heads for practice. Along with Rolands Drum triggers, and a great set of headphones, you're going to get a nice drum set sound to practice with, with great sensitivity. Awesome unit for the drummer who doesn't desire to spend a thousand or more on an e-set. I plan on purchasing another to use with my toms. So far, I have a double trigger for my snare and a bass drum trigger. Highly recommended and with Sweetwaters great customer support base, well worth the investment.

Absolutely!

First off ... this little puppy is a God sent must for adding to your acoustic set! Easy to learn and expand on. However, and this is in no reflection of the TM-2, the biggest problem I have encountered is having a sound engineer (and I use that title loosely) that has a clue as to what to do with it in the mix. Example, a night in a very packed country house. I'm all set up and the sound "man" approaches with his mics for the drum set. I tell him I have a drum module that needs to be heard all around. That means, in the monitors and out front. He asks, "what do you mean?" Wow! After the first set I asked a few people if they heard the hand claps, cowbells, and other percussion instruments as well as I asked my band mates. Everyone looked at me as if I had two heads. I asked the sound "man". His answer, I backed it off in the mains because you could hear them. I mean ... hope none of you have to put up with amateurs such as this. This is an awesome little unit and should be heard! You will not be disappointed .. unless you encounter an amateur wannabe sound engineer. I plan on purchasing another and more of Rolands triggers. The triggers are an excellent match and work awesome on the acoustic drums. So much can be added!

Just what the doctor ordered

By Sweetwater Customer on July 15, 2015 Music Background: Been playing drums since I was a wee lad

We don't have a keyboard player but many of our songs require unique sound effects. This device
is not only a great little drum box but its ability to play back wav files makes it a killer FX box as well.
I can assign up to four effects per kit per song w/o having to change kits. I set up a different kit per song and just cycle through with the + button as the set progresses. That works great. I use a couple of old PD-7s for the triggers which gives me two triggers per pad. Perfect.

My Percussion Campanion

By David Peel from Denver, CO on August 8, 2014 Music Background: Pro Musician

I'm giving this little module the highest score because it's finally answered my need for great triggered percussion. I use it primarily for it's fantastic kick sounds using the Roland K-7 pedal. I use effectively as a perfect accompaniment while playing guitar and singing. I'm anxious to try a 2nd pedal to augment the kick sounds.

Awesome sound drum sound module/trigger unit

By Johnny Fedevich from Las Vegas, NV on February 3, 2016 Music Background: professional drummer

Great easy to use unit for quick percussion sounds, hand claps, electronic sounds. I use this unit for many acts I work with in Las Vegas. I also use a couple of Roland PDX-8 pads as well to trigger this module.
Great for the money.

Very satisfied

By Sweetwater Customer from Whittier, CA, USA on August 22, 2014 Music Background: Death Metal Drummer

I'm in love with my new module. It is very easy to use and I love the default settings it comes with. I just had a few mote questions about the TM-2 trigger module that I can not figure out. Still trying to do some more research on it.

Does the Job

By Grandpa Gary from Denver area on June 13, 2018 Music Background: mechanical engineer and lifelong musician

Didn't want to spend the money on a TM-6 because I wouldn't use all its capacity or capability, so I settled for the TM-2 (practice kit). It works just fine. The available voices are Ok, but I will likely reach into my library for others.
