great Equipment

This is a relatively powerful and useful drum controller for an amazing price!

I am not using this exactly as intended. I own an ATV artist kit. I like the onboard sounds of the ATV, alot. However, the kick drum samples, without the ability to EQ, don't have quite enough bottom end. I considered using drum software to trigger samples, but years ago I didn't like this arrangement for a few reasons.

I'm running the output of my kick directly to the TM-1, bypassing the ATV ad5 altogether. I am amazed at how easy it is to edit the TM-1 is when you access it via the free software from Roland.

I am very pleased with this as a relatively simple solution to replace a kick drum sound. I have sampled some of the other sounds (e.g. snares, toms, etc). The 808 samples are awesome and something I don't have access to with the ATV controller. Most of the other acoustic style samples are fine. They aren't top shelf, but they would definitely be usable and make sense if you look at what the TM-1 is designed to do.

Best Live Kick!

By Moose from Virginia, USA on April 7, 2019 Music Background: Mondo Jelly Kings

The TM-1 was a great solution to an issue we've had for 3 years with our live sound. Our amphitheater is powered by a 16,000+ watt JBL/Crown system that gives us well-defined sound with big bottom and no mud, when mixed properly. But we never achieved the kick drum sound like on our albums. The TM-1 coupled with a RT-30K trigger and Whirlwind IMP2 direct box allows us to have our well crafted kick for live shows now - and punches right through the mix. There are no user kits, but you can replace stock sounds with your own WAVE files - up to 24bit for high quality. Dead easy to install, and with a quick read of the manual along with the downloadable software we were up and running in less than a half hour. Takes literally minutes, if you intend to use the included samples. How many times has your kick been lost in the mix, muddy or lacking punch? This is an easy cure. Many thanks to Dustin for helping us put this together. Cheers

Exactly what I needed

By Martin Koop from Tiffin, Ohio on March 11, 2019 Music Background: performing songwriter

The TM-1 arrived on a Saturday while I was loading my van for a show. I'm not a drummer and I have no experience with electronic drums or drum triggers. I'm a solo songwriter with a small kick drum that was a pain to mic up and get consistently good sound. I only had a few minutes before driving to open the device and check it out, and so I really did not plan to take it with me to the show - but in just a few minutes I installed a drum trigger (purchased separately) on my acoustic kick drum, and connected the TM-1 to my portable PA to see how it worked. It sounded great instantly and the pedal was intuitive and everything worked perfectly, so I decided to take it to the show after all and give it a whirl. I used it twice over the weekend and it worked perfectly and was simple to set up and use right out of the box. The kick drum sounds were really good and it fattened up my drum which is just what I needed and avoided the need to mess with a mic at all on my kick drum. I know there is an editor app which I intend to explore and there are many features and options still to learn and I look forward to messing with it some more, but if all it does is what it did straight out of the box, then it was definitely worth it for me and my purposes. It appears to be very rugged and solid and it fits on the floor beside my kick drum pedal where it is not noticeable to an audience but is easily within reach of my foot should I need to scroll through options. FYI, to use the app with an iOS device you need a lightning to USB camera adapter, which is not included, so I haven't had a chance to fool with the app yet, but I ordered an adapter. The Roland support videos and documents are pretty limited and the manual is sparse, but honestly the thing is pretty easy to figure out so that wasn't a big deal. I expect that there will be more user videos with tips and tricks available now that it has been released.

As always, Adam at Sweetwater gave my order perfect attention and it was delivered swiftly.
