Guild T-50 Slim Hollowbody Electric Guitar - Vintage Sunburst Reviews

Hollowbody Electric Guitar with Laminated Maple Top, Back, and Sides, 2-pc Mahogany Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, and 1 Single-coil Pickup -

Guild brings back a classic with the T-50 Slim thinline hollowbody guitar. The only non-cutaway body design in the Newark St. Collection, the thinline T-50 features arched maple back, sides, and top, all dressed in a cool sunburst finish that's drenched in vintage details that complete the classic vibe. Guitarists at Sweetwater love the honest-to-goodness vintage tone you get from the T-50 Slim's thin 1.9" body depth combined with an SB1-F single-coil pickup — it's not just classic Guild tone, it's the signature sound of a mid-1960s T-50.

Guild T-50 Slim

By John L on April 28, 2022 Music Background: Regular gigs at senior center dances

I hope this might be helpful. This is quite a beautiful guitar and lovely to play. It arrived from Sweetwater with no apparent flaws and set up well. Smooth fret ends. I was curious about the Franz pickup (P90). I like it a lot and in my use of it I am experiencing no background hum. I mainly rely on neck pickups, but there is a lot of range in the tone control to handle various needs. The single pickup is sufficiently versatile for me. I am quite happy. I use the T-50 interchangeably with my Ibanez GB10-SE, equally sweet and pleasant to play. I do like smaller lower bouts in hollow bodies.
After two months I changed the original round wound T-50 strings to D'Addario flat wound Chromes of the same gauge. To me it is a great improvement in feel and more in character with the rest of this guitar, to me at any rate. Guild might consider shipping the T-50 with the Chromes as Ibanez does with the GB. The fretboard benefitted from oiling.
Although the tailpiece is handsome I found it to be a bit fiddly for changing strings. Upon removing the original strings one of the ball ends got cocked in the narrow slot of the tailpiece and had to be pried out with a small screwdriver. So I carefully tried to align the ball ends when installing new strings. Minor annoyance.
I chose this over the PRS SE hollow body because of the novelty of the Franz pickup. I also drew on my experience playing a vintage Guild archtop that impressed me and got me interested in archtops. It ends well.

Guild T-50 Slim

By Sweetwater Customer on April 10, 2022

First Guild (Not my last) it's lightweight, surprisingly cool acoustic tone for when you want to just pick it up and play on the couch, and sounds great plugged in with the p-90. It has a nice warm tone. Love it

This was a real surprise...it was my first guitar I purchased from Sweetwater and I am very pleased with the results....

Fantastic guitar

This has become my favorite guitar to hold and play. The hollowbody resonance is fantastic being so thin. But being so thin makes it very comfortable and very lightweight to hold. The single P90 make it simple to get a beautiful jazzy/bluesy tone. The workmanship is gorgeous and just looks stunning hanging on my wall. To me this guitar just reeks of my kind of vibe.. of course that is purely subjective.. lol

Guild T-50 Slim Hollowbody Electric Guitar - Vintage Sunburst

By greatvanzinni from Oregon on July 25, 2020 Music Background: Played since I was 11. 60 something now. Let me use my fingers here,,, 68!

What is there to say? Guild Newark's are great players at a fair price. This plays every bit as well as my Savoy & my Manhattan. Do remember however, this model is barely a semi hollow. It seems to have a little less depth from front to back than my other semi's. That said, with the right EQ is sounds much more hollow than it is. Whatever the p90 is, well, I have a few others & this one is about my fave. If you are new to Sweetwater, just call them up, ask for Wayne Davis & tell him I sent you, LOL. Great service with free, really fast shipping. Got here 2 days early! Great Packing.

Finally fell in love

I bought my Guild T50 Slim a couple of years ago from Sweetwater. I must say that I wasn't that impressed at first but slowly fell in love. I had some issues at first with some pot problems but Guild took care of them with no issues. The guitar just loves to be played and is a whole lot of fun. Stays in tune as long as you pay attention and play it often; which I do. Built in Korea where there is a very good reputation for quality. Even though Korea has a better reputation than China, my Ibanez PM2 which is made in China, is awesome as well and it also stays in tune. I have purchased a few guitars from Sweetwater and they have nothing but great service and support and really good guitars. The beauty in shopping with Sweetwater is that if you don't like it they don't want you to buy it. Sometimes I wonder if I should have bought a guitar with 2 pickups but every time I pick her up I'm glad i bought the Guild T50 Slim.

Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

I had been looking at this Guild guitar for several years and finally pulled the trigger after listening to a few the videos available online. After all, I own a Gibson ES-335 Custom and didn't feel the need for another semi hollow guitar. Just as I expected, initially the Guild T-50 slim sounded different from the Gibson and I did not pay much attention to the new Guild. I can't say that I was disappointed, but was also not overwhelmed with the tone of the single P-90 I was getting. However, the workmanship (as with all the Guilds I have owned) is exceptional.

Lighter weight and great playability eventually won me over and I paid more attention to this guitar: I plugged the instrument into my Okko Diablo overdrive and ran it into my Marshall at low volume -all hell broke lose! After a few months hanging idle on my studio wall, I now absolutely love this tone!!!

The Guild T-50 Slim is not a replacement for a standard hollow body, but I can make the Guild sound close to the ES-335 and at the same time very different. Bottom line: I sold the ES-335 and have now recorded/played live my cherished Guild T-50 Slim, the instrument that initially underwhelmed me in the tone department. By the way: the guitar hardly ever feeds back, but of course you can make it happen if you feel like it.

This guitar is a bargain and comes highly recommended!

Very versatile

By Jason from Charlotte NC on October 1, 2019 Music Background: 25 years playing

Great guitar in a simple format. With only one pickup in the neck position it would lead you to think it is a one trick pony but it is not. Slap some delay on it through a supro amp and you"ve got instant rockabilly. Add some over drive and it"s the early 60s in a Smokey blues club. I know it"s more than others in the same class but the guild quality is on par with American made guitars. This is one of 3 Newark street guitars from guild I own and they are all top notch!
