An Unexpexted Surprise

I purchased this unit to do mobile recording with my Late 2011 MacBook Pro. The thunderbolt power is very helpful for making this a great unit to take on the road or down the hall into a different room for recording. The latency is incredibly low too! In comparison to the Focusrite 18i20 (first gen) I've used for the last four years on my main composition and recording rig the mic pres and conversion on the T4 blows the Focusrite out of the water. Recordings with the T4 sound cleaner, more open, better detailed, and virtually no noise. I like them so much I might record everything with this until I can replace the Focusrite with a higher quality rack mount interface. As always thank you Luke for your help and getting this to me so fast!

Works with El Capitan

I recently upgraded to El Capitan without checking first, and pretty much had to upgrade everything afterwards. I upgraded to the Pro Tools 12.5 through the subscription service(which was less complicated than I thought it would be), and I tried getting an M-track II, but that wouldn't work. I liked the idea of a thunderbolt connection from a latency stand point of view, but most of them are way more money. I picked the right one. The T4 was easy set up. It was literally the easiest hardware upgrade I've had during this whole process. yay.

Wonderful sounding interface.

I work in a lot of great studios and frankly have had no need to try and compete by building a pro home studio. I couldn't afford it. I do always keep a good project studio to produce my YouTube vids, which are a gateway for online lesson subscription though. I got a new MacBook Pro and noticed that the sounds in Garage Band were a lot better, so I decided to get an interface. I bought the T4 and almost returned it because of some static. I was not realizing that the drivers didn't always match up and sometimes, you have to be patient and close the software and reopen. This takes 10 seconds. Make sure your channels are assigned right. It is intuitive. The results are unbelievable. The T4 provides the best sound I have heard outside of a pro studio. I am using an AKG 414 UBLS and a Neumann TLM 103. I have loads of head room, absolutely no static or noise, a great transformer type pro sound. I have an Avalon VT737sp, which I planned on running through it, but the sounds I have gotten were so pristine, I haven't stopped experimenting. I was planning on getting Logic X next week, but the new Garage Band with my mics and this unit sound so good, I might just go with what I have. 0 latency. I didn't want to take this step till Thunderbolt. No going back. The sound reminds me of the Apogee at a fraction of the cost.

Recorded Album with R.A. T4 and ProTools 10

I just finished recording a piano album (Everlasting Sunrise) with the Resident Audio T4 and I am very happy with the quality. Moreover, with the most updated drivers, I was able to have success with Pro Tools 10 (unlike another reviewer). Great job Resident Audio team!

Fast Thunderbolt Interface With Midi

Nice packaging, good build quality and simple to install. A perfect choice for my Logic X project studio. The interface sounds good, has no detectable latency and includes Midi in and out. Very happy with this Bus powered Thunderbolt Interface.

Sweetwater Advice

Allison Swingley

I first used the Resident Audio T4 on a project with a limited budget, and I instantly fell in love with it. The I/O, including all four preamps, is super clean, and the conversion is excellent. And thanks to its Thunderbolt connection, I can record at 24-bit/96kHz without ever having to worry about transfer speed, so I never miss a take.
