Switches don't switch well, tuner doesn't tune

By Brad L. from pittsburgh
Music Background: Masters in Music/Professional Musician

Very disappointed but stuck with it now. The switches do not switch all the time. You have to press them lighting fast and even then they don't always trigger. If your foot is on even milliseconds too long the switches don't trigger but perform the hold function. Getting the right timing is never consistent even with practice. Also the built in tuner is slightly off and insted if tuning to the center you have to tune it one bar to the right and even then it's not completely accurate. I'm not sure how they got this product so wrong. it does all the other stuff it's supposed to do really nice but really those are all moot points because if the switches don't switch 100% of the time you'll find yourself fighting this in a live setting and not having tight or in tune performances.

Great switcher, but with 1 design flaw

By Drew M.

This is an overall excellent switcher but I'm going to start with the design flaw because it will makes this a non-starter for some players. Imagine that you are close to 6 feet tall performing on the typical dark stage. Unless you have incredible vision, you have zero shot of reading the display when you are in preset mode. Take a look at the picture I attached. The approx 1" square display is broken down into 5 super small rows of text. Why would they do that?

Aside from that, it is a tremendous product, and I mean that sincerely. It is super easy to program and really surprisingly feature rich at the price point. It has an excellent midi implementation, 5 reorderable loops, a very usable onboard tuner, and great buffers.

I ended up selling it and getting a RJM PBC/6X and I couldn't be happier.

It doesn’t switch.

By Jonathan C. from Chelsea, AL

Here's what you want to know. Should I use this for live applications? No. Do not buy this if you need crisp transitions in songs and reliable switching. It doesn't do either of those. Played my first live outing with it instead of going back to my trusty ES-5; hoping I could overcome this switchers short comings (stomping harder on the switches for reliable switching/ switching early for transitions between clean/dirty/ modulated/ whatever) and there's nothing more demoralizing and embarassing than missing your transitions and having to tap multiple times to get a preset switch. It's a shame because setup is super easy and fast, but it doesn't do what it's supposed to do when you NEED it to do it. This was my second unit; the first unit had a faulty selector knob that would just get stuck in the down position. Maybe the switches are bad on my 2nd unit? No, the first one was the same way and I got the 2nd unit hoping that it was a fluke. DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU NEED RELIABLE TRANSITIONS IN A SONG. You will look like a mouth breather. Back to the es-5 for me.

Awesome Effects Switcher and MIDI controller.

By Stevie D. from Michigan
Music Background: Producer/Composer/Musician

First of all, my sales rep is awesome. Tony Watson is very knowledgeable. He deserves a raise LOL. 1) It is easy to get going. I did not get a chance to program presets before playing, but it was very easy to set up the amp control and the loops for loop playing. 2) I was kind of bummed that there was not a program for my laptop to make programming easier. However, Fender made it so easy that you do not need it. The videos on the Sweetwater go above and beyond how to explain programing presets 3) By far, this is the easiest MIDI controller to program.

I can not believe I went this long without a switching system.

The Switchboard has changed everything!

By Blake from Savannah, GA

I've gone all Fender for my Rig. I'm utilizing every Loop and the TRS Out for the Footswitch with my Princeton to engage the Reverb and Tremolo. Loop 1 is sending out to the Reverb Tank/Tape Echo going straight into the amp! Every Fender Pedal on the board has its own Loop and can be arranged in many different combinations, without rearranging the board a million times! The rig is sounding extremely wavey and dreamy these days :)

Excellent Quality and Features

By Colin S. from Castle Rock, CO

I loved everything about this unit. It's very very easy to learn how to use. It didn't color my tone at all. The menus are very easy to use and learn and very colorful.

In the end I did return it as it didn't have enough loops for my needs. If there was a larger version I would have purchased it instead.

I'd definitely recommend to a friend.

Excellent Switcher! Fantastic collaboration between Fender and RJM!

By Andy from NJ

I was a Boss ES-5 user for several years, and switched over to the Fender Switchboard. The units are comparable in that both offer 5 re-orderable loops, the ability to store presets, the ability to send midi PC & CC messages, and control of your amp's footswitch for channel switching, etc..

From an easy of use / ease of navigation standpoint, the Switchboard wins by a mile, and it's not even close. It's like comparing a modern day Mac O/S like Big Sur to MS-DOS. Another area where I think the Switchboard wins is the buffer quality, and I feel that my overall rig sounds better with the Switchboard than it did with the ES-5. Yet another benefit of the Fender unit is the onboard tuner.

The ES-5 does have several features that aren't on the Switchboard. For example, the ES-5 includes a gain boost function, and the ability to put loops in parallel. The ES-5 is also more customizable in that you can reassign button functions.

Great upgrade from Hotone strip switcher

By Fred from Atlanta
Music Background: Semi-Pro

Was looking at Gig Rig atom but lead time and expense kept me looking. Switchboard Operator came out just in time...so far it sounds great and has been fairly easy to set up. Only small negative is that is doesn't have a dedicated tuner out but I can live with that by just changing my old routing. Price is right for the capabilities Switchboard has.
