Advanced Loop Switcher

The JHS Pedals Switchback is a tiny box with a huge feature set. It began life as a device that JHS designed just for themselves to compare and test pedals around the factory. They soon realized, however, that this little box was so useful that it belonged in every guitarist's rig onstage or in the studio. The Switchback has one input, one output, and sends/returns for two separate selectable effects loops, plus an A/B controllable by JHS's Red Remote switching system (available separately). Because of the Red Remote functionality, you can place the Switchback and any effects in its loops completely out of sight under your pedalboard or tucked away in a rack while only having the tiny Red Remote accessible. The footswitch is true bypass, so when it’s off, it's not affecting your signal. At Sweetwater, we've found a virtually unlimited number of ways to use the Switchback.

Need to relabel the amp output

By Sweetwater Customer

If you plan on using this to switch between preamps and to keep timing effects in the mix good luck with figuring that out with zero explanation of how the routing works for this. They need to relabel the amp out as that is not what it really is, and honestly they need some kind of breakdown of the routing even if it's a couple of effects routing examples. It's not simply send 1 and return 1, and send 2 and return 2 like the labeling would lead you to believe. The amp output on the pedal is realistically more like the main return and send 1 goes to the amp input. The amount of hours it took for me to figure that out to get the thing to work with a preamp and timing effects into the power section on my main amp is BS as there is literally nothing online explaining this that I could find. If you're reading this and trying to figure hire to switch between an external preamp and your main rig it goes as follows: Guitar and front of amp pedals into the guitar input, amp output to power amp's return (to add timing effects send the amp out from the pedal to timing effects first and then your last timing pedal goes to the power amp's return), power amp's send to return 1, send 1 to power amp's input, send 2 goes to external preamp input, and finally the external preamp's send goes to return 2.

Love it

By Sergio from Finger Lakes, NY

JHS quality, and I can switch on multiple pedals with one click.
In case this helps: if you go with this approach, then you really have three channels: pedals that come before the switcher (which you turn on and off individually, the old-fashioned way), pedals in channel 1 and pedals in channel 2 (but not both). That's the simple version.
I only use one light overdrive before it and the bulk of my pedals in channel 2 (with one click I turn on distortion or fuzz, chorus, phaser, ring mod and delay). If you can make one of those two systems work and you want the ability to switch on multiple effects with one click, then this is for you.

great dual by pass loop switcher

By Paul from two people behind you at Starbuck's

Utterly quiet and seems transparent to the signal. There are many uses for such pedals and this one is reasonably priced for 2 loops and it does the job rather well. You can get the external switch to change 1 and 2 but that puppy is bucks which is quite alot for a simple switch (maybe because it's red? lol). Also red does not come w a TRS cable far as I know. Anyway if you just need a couple by-pass loops to solve separating chained pedals or just get a few things out of chain, this is a great little switch block.

Goldilocks Loop Switcher

By Brian L. from New York, NY
Music Background: Guitarist

Not too big, not too small, this pedal is just right for simple two loop routing.

I use this to switch between acoustic guitar and electric guitar effects on the same pedalboard. I have 3 pedals for acoustic in one loop and 3 for electric in the other loop. The tuner, volume, reverb, delay, and looper are used by both on the same pedalboard. The Switchback is better than buying two of each effect for two pedalboards.

It's also great for A/B testing individual pedals or combinations. It would be nice if it had a footswitch on it instead of needing a remote but I don't know if it could fit. I also don't think the pedal could be much smaller.

home studio plus

By Michael H. from MD
Music Background: home studio musician

I found the need for this pedal when always plugging and unplugging cables to move from one recording rig to another in my home studio. The JHS Switchback A/B effects loop switcher was perfect for my needs. I can use JHS switchback to move between rig A and rig B seamlessly now. I also make use of the remote input jack for more added convenience, one touch and done ! The JHS switchback pedal has no sound bleed between my two rigs as does other A/B pedals I have tried in the past :( Simple and effective, it is a home studio plus !

Nice loop switcher

By Paul from MN

Completely silent. Works great. I have my standard gigging pedalboard with my go to stuff and another larger one as a playground to swap pedals in and out which stays in the studio. With this loop switcher I'm able to instantly switch between pedal boards.

JHS Switchback Pedal

By Joe from San Diego
Music Background: Working pro

Great Swiss Army knife pedal. I'm using it as a loop switcher to remote bypass a delay used it the effects loop of my amp. This allows me to keep the delay near the amp and keep the send and return cables short. A very handy problem solver!

I'm so happy with this

By Sweetwater Customer

When designing my new board, I wanted two loops. Turns out, it's more difficult to find an affordable solution to do this than one would like. And most options are quite large. JHS has done an excellent job in making a regular sized switcher in a no nonsense, no frills design. It does exactly what you want it to do and nothing more.

SURPRISINGLY USEFUL

By Mark K. from Beautiful Melbourne Florida
Music Background: Retired, recovering from cancer, loving life and my wife

This little switch box is great for going between two effects or two effects chains of multiple gadgets. I normally use it to switch between two distortion sounds.

I bought this switcher and the associated JHS Red foot switch which is used to go back and forth between the two connected gadgets. You need an on-off switch (an extra purchase) connected to switch between the two effects loops. You're also going to need a bunch of guitar cords to connect all the inputs and outputs on this tiny switching system.

Classic JHS, quality build, great performance, no feedback even on high gain Mesa Dual Rectifier 100 watt amplifiers. This little switch box may be small but it's high in performance.

Pit your favorite distortion pedals against each other in unique and direct A-B comparisons. This JHS switcher helped me work through my stash of 20+ distortion boxes to find my favorite two which are on my current pedal board. It is enlightening to quickly switch between two sources and hear the differences immediately.

Thank you for a useful tool JHS, another great creation. Thank you Sweetwater for making it available.

Good music to all!
