Schecter Sunset-6 Extreme Electric Guitar - Grey Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Nyatoh Body, Multi-ply Maple and Rosewood Neck, Ebony Fingerboard, and 2 Humbucking Pickups - Grey

“Schecter Guitar Research” is no mere catchphrase. Every axe in Schecter’s repertoire — classic and contemporary — results from meticulous work by their luthiers, sparing no effort to deliver a bona fide shred machine. The indelibly articulate Sunset-6 is no exception, outfitted with premium appointments to ensure no punch is pulled with every lick and lead. Superlative tonewoods comprising maple, rosewood, nyatoh, and ebony culminate in a sonorous mix of substantial sustain, excellent articulation, and heaps of tonal heft. A high-speed neck complements a 25.5-inch scale, sprawling with 24 frets of unfettered riff-crafting potential. Guitarists at Sweetwater especially appreciate the menagerie of Schecter’s house-made hardware, from their locking tuners and hardtail bridge to their Schecter USA pickups to bring these high-octane sonics to life.

This one djents

By Sweetwater Customer on October 3, 2023 Music Background: Music Producer, Songwriter

It pretty much comes out of the box ready to rock. At the time of writing, Sweetwater's product page doesn't say what gauges this one comes with but mine came with what appears to be a 46-10 set. It stayed surprisingly tense when tuning down to drop C.

Lets talk about this bridge pickup. Originally, I thought I'd instantly want to swap it out for something from Bare Knuckle but this thing absolutely shreds. The voicing and output of this thing is just correct. The lows are about the tightest I've heard so far and the mids are pretty growly. All of that without the brittle high end bump that you get with a lot of other pickups that are similarly voiced. I haven't needed to plug in any boosts or distortion with this thing yet. If John Browne didn't already have his own signature pickup set with Schecter, I think this one would be pretty well aligned with his taste.

The build is really decent for the money. The body is pretty light and the neck has just the right amount of dive to make it comfortable to hold still. I'm knocking half a star off as I feel the ebony fingerboard could have used a little more finishing/sanding, and there's a small little splash of what looks like paint on the bottom side of the fingerboard towards the neck pickup area.

Overall, super pleased with this axe and with Sweetwater's service as always.

Disappointed

By Braden Baker from Peru, IN on March 3, 2024

Let me start off by saying Sweetwater customer support is phenomenal, they did everything to remedy the issues I was having.

This guitar sounds and plays amazingly, one of the best offerings from Schecter under $ bar none. The pickups are extremely clear, the tuning stability is rock solid, and this thing sustains for days. The one issue that was an absolute deal breaker… the loud metallic pinging noise when palm muting on the A string.

Plugged it into my amp to test it out for the first time and the pinging is so bad that it's creating feedback that makes it essentially unusable. Figured it was a defect so I return to sweetwater to exchange it for the same model, unfortunately the exchange had the same problem so this is obviously a design flaw. I'm a lifelong fan of Schecter, and will probably give them another chance, but this model needs help. It's a shame, it's a NEAR perfect instrument, it hurt to have to return it. Maybe I'll just stick with a hellraiser…

Poor fit and finish

By Steve L. from USA on January 5, 2024

The fit and finish was worse than that of my Pacifica, which cost me 1/3 what the Schecter did. The bridge humbucker was crooked (front-to-back). The saddles had tool marks. The inside of the pickup selector well wasn't painted. The wood under the front strap knob had a soft spot and easily caved in when I installed a Dunlop Straplok. The Schecter Sunset-6 Extreme is the guitar that made me swear off online guitar purchases forever.
