Samson S Patch/ Patchbay

By Michael D. from FREEHOLD, NJ
Music Background: Audio Engineer/ Producer 25 years of experience

Bottom line... best patchbay on the market. Made very solid & strong. Very versatile with it's 3 way switch on every channel. Configure your studio anyway you like to work. I highly recommend this patchbay. I've owned other patchbays which the inner 1/4" connectors have worn out or gotten intermittent. These are much sturdier and will last a lot longer.

Great units

By William R. from Bend, OR
Music Background: Musician, engineer, producer

I use 2 of these for my "home studio", they work great and being able to change from normal to half normal on the front of the unit is essential.

Does NOT fit in a standard patchbay

By Stacey R. from Hillsboro, OR

I had problems with this unit, in that it did not fit into a standard 19" patchbay. I managed to get by for a couple years, but my solution ended up warping the faceplate and now certain ports just don't accept the TRS cable like they're supposed to. Thus I do not recommend this patchbay.

Five years and no issues

By Les P. from SW Florida
Music Background: Multi-instrumentalist (mainly guitar), songwriter, producer, engineer, teacher

I got this in November of 2019. Every channel works perfectly and it's never given me any issues.

I have a Neutrik NYS-SPP-L1 and hate it. It's connectors are TOO tight. It literally ripped the TIP conductor off the end of a patch cable which then was stuck in the Neutrik patch bay. In removing that piece, the contacts bent a little so the Neutrik now has 1 bad module. I've had a 1/4" patch bay since the late 1980's and NEVER had one grab so tight that it ripped the tip of the plug right off.

After that I immediately got the Samson. It's jacks are MUCH smoother than the Neutrik to the point where I've worried about cables falling out but even though my patch bays are mounted plugs up in a desk rack, they've never come out or failed in any way.

The Samson is a LOT more convenient since it's normalling is changed with a front panel switch. With the Neutrik, you have to remove a front panel piece and reverse a module. Then try to replace that front panel piece. All 24 card ends have to be lined up perfectly or the panel won't seat. Samson switches are a much better design.

My only complaint about the Samson is the scribble strips. They're pretty small and not as easy to write on as the Neutrik which uses a big eraseable sticker across the entire patch bay. That's why I knocked off a half star.

I can't wait to junk the Neutrik completely and replace it with another Samson which I should have done years ago.

Easy to set up and use. Having the normalling switches on the front keeps things even more flexible. Would definitely recommend!

This or Flock

By Kyle B. from Davison, MI
Music Background: Project studio and musician

Unless you're willing to shell out the big bucks for a Flock Audio patchbay, this is the one you want. Having the normal controls up front is ideal so you don't have to take the patchbay down to make adjustments. I use Hosa colored patchbay cables up front, and 5' black hosa cables in the back going to my SSL Big Six.

If you're thinking a patchbay will increase your routing options and give you more versatility, you're right. Buy it. The only downside is all the cables you need to hook it up.

I now have two of these

By Jonathan C.

I now have two of these, one for effects and one for synthS. Used in a small music room at home.

They feel heavy and robust, the switch on the front enables simple no thinking action, quickly changing modes. Thru, half or normalled.

Samson patchbay

By Greg C. from Buffalo NY
Music Background: Drummer guitar and keyboard, producer and engineer

This patchbay has a solid construction and very convenient normalling switches on the front. Very pleased with its design and performance . Will most likely purchase another unit or two as my studio needs increase.

Does the job

By Ryan from San Diego

I think this is the best patchbay in this price range. It works well out of the box, and having the normalization switches on the front is a really nice addition. To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of the color and wish they offered it in black. However, for the price you're getting a good amount of functionality. If you're thinking about getting a patchbay for your studio, you can't go wrong with this one.

2024 Samson S-Patch Plus 48-point Balanced Patchbay Review

By Donald H. from Bauxite, AR
Music Background: Computer Programmer, Musician, Pro Audio, Home Studio

I did a bit of research between this and a few others, and this unit just stood out best.
It is solid build.

I'd recommend this device to anyone.

A really nice easy to use patchbay with the switches for Normal/halfnormal/Thru right on front which is nice. I am using it currently for a whole array of synths/rack gear into a mixer. I plan on buying a second one to use for effects.

Fantastic TRS Patchbay

By Matk M. from US
Music Background: Just another studio nerd!

This patchbay is built like a tank, ridiculously simple to use and performs wonderfully. I bought this patchbay based on the reviews here, and they did not disappoint. I love the fully-enclosed design, solid construction and of course, the simplicity and flexibility of use. The fact that I don't have to flip modules is wonderful. This patchbay is perfect for project studios, or for anyone that needs a solod TRS patchbay. It won't disappoint!

Good gear and well made

By Tim B. from Orangeburg, SC
Music Background: Producer, songwriter

I am very impressed with the patchbay, especially on the price point. It is solidly made, easy to work with and most importantly, doesn't add or take away anything to the sound quality. James Wroblewski, my SW rep, comes through yet again as providing exactly what I need within the budget I had. Perfect.

I really really wanted this to work

By Sweetwater Customer from MA

Unfortunately, after testing two units (the original and the replacement sent by Sweetwater) under a variety of conditions for many hours over the last few weeks, I can decisively say I do not recommend this rack.

I was blown away by all of the love for this in the reviews, but these devices have a significant problem:

The connections do not break correctly when a cable is patched in or the switch is changed to "thru". There is a "ghost" signal still coming through which can be heard clearly when monitoring the original "normalled" channel especially when any amount of gain is added. This happens on all channels on both devices.

I've tested this on and off the studio rack to rule out ground loops / signal bleed through the chassis, through different interfaces and preamps, and with multiple different synthesizers. Through an Art T8 transformer / isolator to ensure a balanced connection. Various cables, etc etc etc.

Time wasted. At the end of the day, 2 weeks of studio down time and hours of research and troubleshooting down the drain. The Sweetwater tech team has been helpful but I cannot afford to wait any longer. Unfortunately my entire setup (rack, T8, dozens of patch cables, and both S-Patches) are going to be going back to the store tomorrow.

Not worth the gamble, if a patch point goes out you're out of luck entirely

By Greg J. from Minneapolis, MN
Music Background: Voice Actor, One-Half of Plastik Boxes

I purchased one of these and loved it so much that I went back and bought another. The ability to switch between normalization configurations on the fly was huge for me. Well, it's been about a year since I bought both and they BOTH now have faulty channels. Patch points 17 and 18 in one, and patch point 12 in the other unit. The fact that both units failed around the same time is annoying, and I used a cable tester and directly connected my gear to make sure it wasn't the gear or the cables I was using and it all came back to being those faulty points on both patchbays.

Having previously owned the DBX PB48, I figured that there's probably an easy solution to fixing this, like opening up the S-Patch and swapping cards out, or similar. I wish I had looked into this before buying the Samson, because I was very wrong. It turns out there isn't, and you can't purchase a replacement card or anything like that for this unit (like you CAN with the PB48). So now I'm stuck with two patchbays that I have to either use and avoid the faulty patch points, or I have to sell for parts/repair, because I'm not great when it comes to soldering or fixing faulty equipment like this.

This would be a great product if it worked and it was great while it lasted, but I've since moved back to the PB48 and it's been great. All it takes to normal is to flip the cards upside-down and they're good to go, and the best part is that when a card fails on the PB48 (which I have had happen) I can just replace it with a new one. Cards can be hard to find, but you can buy a used one and harvest the cards.

Even with the PB48 having a non-enclosed design and plastic screws (which some have complained about in negative reviews), the fact that I can just replace faulty cards is absolutely a deal-breaker for me and I would highly recommend buying the PB48 over this. Having some form of recourse should something go wrong is monumental.

The Samson S-Patch is a gamble that I clearly lost, since you're SOL if anything ever goes wrong, whereas the PB48 gives you some flexibility should anything ever go wrong. These S-Patches are paperweights.

Great patchy with useful features

By Sweetwater Customer

The name Samson for me has always translated to "budget" in my mind. This patchbay changed that perception for me. Solid build with features that make it extremely flexible for those of us who need to customize our patching options without have to use "dummy plugs" to make a change.

The perfect solution for the flexibly-wired studio

By Joey A. from BRIGHTON, MA

Knocked off one half star only because the switches are recessed to where it's difficult to change them (both a good and bad thing)... But also to where it's difficult to tell exactly where they are set (pretty much only a bad thing). But the fact there are normalling switches at all set this unit apart. This is a great tool for a home-to-mid-level studio (or even pro -- no reason why not!). Just be prepared to spend an additional $ minimum in balanced patch cables per unit.

Works great but no room to label

By Sweetwater Customer

This is a very solid patchbay. I love the switchable normalling, number of inputs/outputs, and build quality. The only flaw for me is that there isn't really enough space on the panel to add labels (with tape or otherwise). I have to resort to using an empty rack panel above it to provide legible labeling.

Wonderfully engineered product!

By Jim B. from Katy, TX

I was knocked out by the robust construct and versatility of this patch bay. It's actually pretty heavy for a patch bay! What appealed to me before purchase was the switching characteristics and the layout. The switching for each individual pair of inputs and outputs is right on the faceplate! Prior to this purchase, I'd only bought one Tascam patch bay, RCA's in and out, and the inserts determined the flow path, requiring powered downs to change cabling. Other than that I'd built my own...Which required...Uh repairs...rather frequently. Also, this unit having 1/4" inserts, it's much more compatible in today's tech. Wonderfully well thought out and engineered piece of equipment!

Excellent Patchbay | Best Patchbay

By Ivan from Long Island City, NY

Most patchbays are pretty similar in form and function but the Samson S-Patch Plus in particular has a simple yet very convenient design/feature that sets it apart from other patchbays that I've researched. What sets it apart is the fact that it has the 3-way mode switches located on the front panel which makes it very easy and convenient to change the mode for each patch. It seems like a simple enough and obvious feature that would and should be included on most patchbays but all other patchbays that I've researched have the mode switches located in places that make it inconvenient to get to especially if you have it installed on a rack mount. Aside from the convenience of having the mode switches on the front panel, this is also a quality patchbay that is very well built and sturdy. I definitely feel that the Samson S-Patch Plus is the best patchbay in its class.

2 years in... still love it

By SG from htown
Music Background: producer/engineer, 20 years in the game

I bought this to protect my monitors from me having to reach past them since I'm clumsy af. It does so much more than that though... it's one of the best investments I've done for the studio. One of those things you don't know you need until you try one then you know you couldn't live without it

If you have even a few pieces of gear this will come in handy. It's kind of tricky to learn the routing patterns but after you mess with it for a couple days it's easy. There's even a way to duplicate signals with a couple extra patch cables connected on the back

It also saves the life of the jacks on your expensive gear which... shouldn't go bad but we know how that goes

2 years of frequent use and it's still working like a champ. I'm no telephone operator but every jack front and back has seen some action. Everything's as it should be. I didn't even have to tighten up a single jack from the factory lol

A perfect 5/7

Cable confusion solution

By Christopher C. from BROOKLYN, NY
Music Background: Multi-instrumentalist, Producer

I have a steadily growing synth collection that I had patched into a mixer with the outs of the mixer patched to my interface for recording. This worked great until, "My collection is complete!" turned into "OOOOOooooo that synth is cool too!!! I should probably have that..." Having outgrown my mixer I regularly found myself re-patching and forgetting which cable was which, and therefore wasting "precious creative-time". I've labels my cables in the past but found as soon as I did, for one reason or another, I would want to rearrange stuff and then cable lengths and gear placement and blah blah blah....
I do plan on acquiring a larger mixer and some more preamps sooner or later, but this Samson patch bay has cured my cable confusion woes and I can see myself continuing to use it far into the future.
Having everything patched into the S-patch Plus has sped up my workflow significantly and having the normalling switches on the front comes in real handy more frequently than I expected. Thanks to Clint Bransteter for getting this out to me quickly, and for being a fantastic, knowledgeable and helpful guy!!!

It was time...

By Brett G. from Daphne, AL
Music Background: I'm an incredible guitar player, melody maker.,and all around great guy. But, I would have to say my greatest attribute is humility.

I put off using patchbays for a long time. Finally, I jumped in. What a difference it has made! (Only reason for 4 star) The Samson arrived with 2 of the nuts and washers floating in the sealed bag. After putting them back on and tightening up the others, all is good. Having the norm, 1/2 norm and thru switchable on the front has already proved invaluable. This patchbay seems well built and is very easy to use. I just ordered a 2nd from my rep, the Great Nate!

Must have!

By Sweetwater Customer

This is a must have for several reasons. It makes signal routing with outboard gear a breeze. I run an Apollo Twin interface and with only having two mic/line inputs I was having to unplug and reconnect every device I have depending on the task at hand. Now with this patch bay I have everything connected and just have to change the patch cable. Pretty great! It's a time saver for sure!

Amazingly Helpful Piece of Equipment

By Stacey G. from Portland, ME
Music Background: Hobbyist Composer and VO Talent

Let’s be honest, a patchbay is intimidating; the signs flow, the front and back, normal, half normal — it’s a lot to think about. As a hobbyist composer and part time VO actor, it’s not the first piece of hardware I’ve ever purchased. Now that I have one, and spent a little time learning to use it, it’s an incredibly valuable piece of hardware for any studio. Once you realize that the signal flows from top to bottom (like a waterfall), it’s much easier to figure out how to patch things in. This particular one has normal, half normal, and through modes, which some of the others don’t have — and it’s a feature you absolutely need. Plus, the switches are on the front of the panel, which is a very smart design choice and a requirement in my book. Definitely grab some console tape and label your ports like I did (see photos) so you’ll remember what is connected on the back. With a ton of synths and drum machines, I can plug them in to the front for playing them or recording into my DAW, and don’t have to go around the back of the interface or desk and try to plug it in. I can just do it right from the front of the patchbay, and boom — I’m in! Don’t be intimidated like I was — buy this affordable piece of hardware and simplify your musical life.

Feature rich and affordably priced

By Dave from Harrisburg PA
Music Background: Drummer and recording dabbler

I was attracted to this unit based on ease of use as well as its affordable pricing. The quality is excellent. Being able to switch modes between normal, half-normal and thru without having to disassemble, resolder or climb behind to change positioning is a big bonus. My only complaint is not having a lot of space for labeling. I would definitely purchase again as needed to handle additional sources and routing options.

It's a very nice patchbay

By Caleb from Virginia
Music Background: Metal

It feels solidly built and the connections feel secure. Having the switches on the front is a nice touch as well. I wish the labeling area was a little larger, as it sits it's pretty tough to label with a marker and console tape. Seems the best way to label is to have a custom adhesive label made for the entire unit. I guess that would make sense once I figure out the permanent routing that I want.

Test and Check Beforehand!

By Tony D. from Phoenix, AZ

Personally, I think this is the best TRS 1/4" patchbay for the money. Built very well...for the most part. Read on...

Before racking-in this patchbay and routing all your cables, do yourself a favor and TEST each port beforehand. Use an audio source and an low-level input (to avoid loud thuds/pops) or headphones (it will be quiet, but it still works). CHECK each connection to confirm audio in/out!

I assumed everything was good upon arrival, but I discovered I had a bad #1 jack AFTER I got the patchbay installed and wired up!

Electronics is my thing, so I am very handy at troubleshooting and solder work. This was easy stuff though. Warranty/sending it back be darned, I took the unit apart by taking the faceplate off and loosening the two nuts for jacks #1 and #25 on the back. Found what would typically be a cold solder joint on jack #1, but it was actually a fractured and lifted pad on the printed circuit board! To fix it, I just scraped a little of the green solder mask away and resoldered the pin. Works good as...uh...new!

I guess the "QC 32" sticker on the bottom is only a visual quality-control check at the factory!

Simple yet Robust

By Jon from Kansas City, MO
Music Background: Engineer/Producer

If you are just getting into he world of outboard gear and needing a patch bay, but do not want to commit to the more expensive DB25 patch bays; Then this is an excellent option. The connectors and switches are very robust - (no plastic here).
While I do not think ("WOW! and Blown Away) is an accurate representation of this product, though I cannot and have not found any reason to dock it for being just a simple patch bay.

Samson S-Patch Plus

By R. D. from Birmingham, AL
Music Background: Drummer and Drum Tech, Eucator, Therapist, Audio Engineer, Host of Local Mash Radio Program and Podcast

This rating and response may seem a bit extreme to some, but this little guy is working so well that I just ordered a second:) The S-Patch is perfect for me at this point. Not only is the price right for the amount of ins and outs, but it is also THE most versatile patch bay I could find. The normalization switches right on the front are a super feature that I wish was standard on all bays. I have used a couple of other hard-wired type TT bays in the commercial studios I frequent, and they do save space and hold up well; but for my personal studio, these can't be beat! If you are on the fence, go ahead and jump!! Hopefully these bays will weather well the storms to come! (Also, Sweetwater has THE BEST customer service and tech support in the industry, IMHO.) Check 'em OUT!!!

Very Nice!!!

By Jonespnice from Midwest

This patchbay has solved many problems for me, and it is very flexible also. I am using an Apollo Twin as my audio interface, I have a hardware Distressor, I have a headphone amp that I use when I'm recording vocalist, I have a Townsend Mic (that requires 2 inputs), I have a hardware MPC, and before I bought the patchbay I would have to unplug/plug cables into the Apollo twin and this worried me because I really don't want to possibly damage it from all of the plugins and unplugging of cables. Now the way that I have everything setup I never have to remove cables from the Apollo but I now have the flexibility to use all my equipment by merely running a cable from one patch point to another on my patchbay. I am totally pleased with this.

Junk Connectors

By Annoyed

These boxes look good and the coniguration switch on the front is a great feature, but the guts of it are junk. I have two of them, and I have had multiple cards fail on me in both units over time. I have had less expensive patchbays in the past that never had a connection failure. Sure, the jacks would eventually wear out and not grip a cable anymore, which is why I replaced them, but the connections themselves were always solid. I'm not sure what's going on with the Sampson unit, but their manufacturing process on these is obviously flawed. And the worst part is that there is no way to fix the problem yourself. And who can afford to be without their patchbay long enough to send it in for repair?

Does Not Pair Well with the New Style Hosa Cables

Perfect Solution

By Marco from SF Bay Area
Music Background: Guitarist, synthesist, and DAW hobbiest

After setting up my new DAW 2.0 (starting fresh with new computer, software, and interfaces), I needed to re-think how I was connecting all the external synths & sound modules. I have far more stuff than my new Apollo 8p can connect to. It is too costly for me to buy another Apollo just so I can have everything connected, and too difficult to get behind the rack & swap out connections. So the obvious cost effective solution is a patch bay. The Samson is quite impressive for the simple device that it is. It is built like a tank with it's full metal casing - there is some weight to this small component. The front panel has a high quality gloss finish that fits in well with other high quality rack gear. The front toggle switches to change modes was the main selling point to me. Another brand had switches on top of the case...how is that helpful in a rack unit? Other devices need you to mess with the jacks to change modes - nah, not interested. I really have no complaints, but the only challenge with this device is there is really no space to label connections on the front panel. I am using the memory method for the time being what device is connected to what jacks.

Quality!

By Duane M. from Columbiana, OH
Music Background: Assistant Engineer Wall of Shadows Studio and Session Bass Player.

I had a DBX PB48 in my home studio. After several durability issues with it, and after a recommendation from a friend, I purchased the Samson. I'm not looking back either!

Although the cost of the DBX and the Samson are very close, there is no comparison in the quality between the two units. The Samson smokes the DBX hands down.

Everything on the Samson is much higher quality over the DBX.. I don't get any of the weird cross talk issues with the Samson that I did with the DBX. Granted is was barely audible on the DBX but it was there none the less. I don't hear that with the Samson.

This is the best 1/4" TRS Patchbay option at Sweetwater. The only way your going to get anything better is to go to a Switchcraft TT/DB25 style patchbay system. We have these at our main studio but to configure many pieces of outboard with quality DB25 snakes, be ready to invest several thousand dollars.

The Samson is really the best option especially in your home studio. These hold up well in the professional setting as well. The friend that recommended the Samson to me is a Live Sound Engineer and has five of these units. He has only had very minor problems with them over the years and never had one go totally down. hat's with heavy every day live use.

If that's not a great track record then I don't know what is. In other words you can't go wrong with them. I highly recommend this one!

Music Background: Working musician

I have a small project studio and wanted to use my compressor for tracking and also as an insert in my pro tools rig. For tracking I wanted to be able to record a compressed track along with an uncompressed track. This is because I'm still learning about compression and don't want to screw up any overdub tracks. It's worked out fine. The switches on the front make is super easy to go from normalled, half normalled to thru.

Learning about routing in patchbays can be a little daunting at first but has really paid off. The Samson S-Patch plus is able to do exactly what I need it to do.

Sampson Patchbay

By Michael

This is an excellent piece of hardware, well made, functional and at a very good price. I looked everywhere for this and sure enough Sweetwater (as expected) had it in stock and ready to ship

Not too much to say about this except that it does what it's supposed to do, excellent build quality, solid.

best features for a 1/4 inch bay

By Chris from T
Music Background: Electronic Music / House Music

I own a high end TT 96pt patchbay, but needed to patch up all my analog synths and drum machines, for quick access routing. I bought one.... and now I have 3 and have completely removed the 96pt TT bay.

The normal/halfnormal switches on the front face make this a genius piece of kit for the price. Build quality is solid as well.

Great patch bays

By Lance Z. from Baltimore area, MD

I think these Samson S-Patch Plus bays are great. I have two of them. The three-position switches on the front (T, HN, N) are solid and easy to manipulate. Maybe someday I'll read something that will convince me I need the equivalent Switchcraft patch bays, but until then these are perfect. When I eventually convert to TT patch bays, then I probably will use Switchcraft TTs, since they're pretty awesome. For solid, dependable TRS patch bays with switches under each channel on the front, these are perfect for me.

Great Value!

By Scott from Sunny San Diego, CA

If you don't know how to solder or even if you do but just hate it immensely, this is a great alternative for a patchbay. Depending on your studio rack space can sometimes be at a premium so there are obvious advantages for the TT style bays, but I also hate soldering. I have quite a few of these now in my rack and they have worked out great. Setup is always easy, and the toggle switch for Normal/Half-Normal/Through on the front is quite handy.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars is beacause of the space they give you for labeling your patch points, Samson doesn't really provide you with information on how best to label it, and traditional p-touch type adhesive labels are too wide and will partially cover up the jacks. This was unfortunately a very poor design choice.

The best 1/4" patch bay

By Sweetwater Customer

I have used Neutrik for a long time amongst others. This one is so solid and the sockets are very smooth. Highly highly recommended. Only downside is it's difficult to label. I just put blank rack panels above and below.

great patchbay

By makoto

If you need a patch bay this is it!!! The fact that you can access the controls in the front panel is very appreciated in the workflow. The built is very sturdy and is esthetically beautiful. Of course, the costumer service at sweetwater was excellent as always.

I have it for couple of months, never had any issues with it. Solid build, and having normal/half normal/through selector on the front panel is a big big plus. Price is also great!

Useful and versatil

By Jorge M. from COLUMBIA, MD
Music Background: Musician, Mixing, Recording

This is a excellent patchbay, I have two of them and find it easy to connect my external compressors to any channel in my mix. I also use it as the intermediate point between my analog DAW outs to my summing mixer so I can connect gear (like bus compressors) before the signal being summed. I also like the flexibility of switching between Normal, Half-normal and Through Mode operation

A Great Choice

By Adam from United States
Music Background: Musician, Recording Engineer

I researched all the patchbays in this general price range, and I chose the Samson based on two things: 1) the switchable normalling, and 2) great reviews online. Why pull out modules when you can flip a switch on the front panel? So much easier. The plugs feel solid on this unit. I'm very happy with my purchase.

My only complaint, and this is pretty silly, but I would prefer black to the blue color. Whatevs.

Great patchbay for the price

By Bryan from Fort Worth, TX
Music Background: Musician/recording engineer

I did not know what to expect buying a Samson product (I would normally NEVER buy any low end products like Samson, Behringer, etc), but this patchbay was a pleasant surprise. Works great, the switches on the front are a BIG help so I don't have to go behind the rack or completely remove the patchbay to change to half normal.

Pure Convenience

By Ronnie from United States
Music Background: Recording Engineer, Producer

First off, I have to make this disclaimer -- As is the case with any extra paths added from the source to the destination, I will honestly say that I did an A/B comparison of:

A. My Preamp directly to the Line-in (on my interface) &
B. My Preamp & Line-In hooked up to the Patchbay THEN in.

The direct connection sounded a bit more dynamic and cleaner. The little crackles in my voice and small details came through cleaner.

I had to say that to begin with. This isn't a magic wiring solution. But that tiny loss of fidelity is the ONLY thing wrong with this (or any) patchbay. The Samson S-Patch is extremely versatile, attractive-looking, efficient, and well-constructed. If you have a limitation on inputs and want to do more with what you have, this is an absolute must.

Eventually, when my studio is optimized (with a more expansive interface), I will have more things routed directly -- Send and Return configurations directly through the interface, etc etc. But I will DEFINITELY still have this patchbay hooked up and have some Ins and Outs set aside for it. Reason being, this is one of the greatest ways to experiment with sound and set up creative new configurations.

If you have an old reverb unit lying around, a distortion pedal, a delay somewhere in your closet, a compressor you don't really use, etc. hook them all up to this patchbay and set yourself free from port-limitations! Wire this to that, to that, to that, and experience the closest thing to software plug-ins in the real world.

It's not a magic cable-routing solution, but it will preserve 98% of your signal's quality while allowing you to send anything anywhere.

I give it my seal of approval, this patchbay has a permanent place on my rack. :)

Quick Connections

By Buck A. from abuckfudge@yahoo.com
Music Background: Pro

This thing is ideal for the home studio. It dosn't cost a fortune you don't have to to take it apart to change the cnfig. on it. The switches are on the front in stead of a different brands on the top so when you mount another peice of rack gear over it you can still shange it up as the switching is on the front Great Unit. Hell for that matter any studio.would be happy with quiet as Mouse or a patch bay should be!

Great little patch bay for the money

By TM from LA, CA
Music Background: Engineer, Producer, Arranger

Okay so I know you're probably thinking "Its a Samson, it can't be better than a DBX or Neutrik". I thought the same thing. I was recently setting up a studio for someone and they had both this and the Neutrik. I studied the two, test them out, and went with this one. Its a really solid patch bay and the convenience of the front panel switching is so awesome.

Great product, great price, great quality! Nuff Said!

By Bruce O. from Ninilchik, Alaska
Music Background: Studio Owner & Recording Engineer

This patch bay will become the pride of any studio arsenal of audio hardware. It's not often I get to use these adjectives with much of today's mass produced audio signal products, but the Samson S-Patch Plus will impress every time. From it's quality of build and evident attention to detail and functionality, to it's up-front swiching capabilities and the accurate detent positioning and jack insert positive feel and friction -these units rock -really. None better at this juncture. Impressive!!

This is a fantastic patchbay...couldn't ask for more!! The switches on the front make switching from fully normalled to half normalled fast and efficient. I'm actually about to purchase a few more of these very soon! Very satisfied with this unit!

The best 48-point patchbay available!

By Beagle from Ft. Worth, TX, USA
Music Background: Hobbyist

I waited for several weeks for this unit to come back into stock because I wanted it specifically. The NORMAL/HALF NORMAL/THROUGH switch on the front of the unit makes this worth twice what they ask for it! So much easier if you have dynamic routing needs! Highly recommended!

Solid, Useful Piece of Kit

By Matt from Southern California
Music Background: Hobbyist recorder, writer, musician

Just got this from Sweetwater and finished wiring everything in and run sum test signals

This is a solidly made patchbay that passes the signals without any added noise which is, of course what a patchbay should do!
What makes this standout for me is the switching between Normal, Half normal and Through for each pair on the front of the unit. Many other units necessitate pulling circuit boards and changing settings and then replacing.
This is a nice simple to use patchbay that you can drop into your rack and not have to worry about.
