Gibraltar Shockmount Mic Adapter for Cymbal Stands
Gibraltar Shockmount Mic Adapter for Cymbal Stands Reviews
The Gibraltar SCGMCMA shockmount mic adapter easily turns your boom cymbal stands into microphone stands. This is great for singing drummers or players who want to mic their kit without bulky microphone stands. The mic adapter threads into any standard 8mm cymbal tilter. And it comes with a built-in shockmount to keep your microphone's performance noise free. The Gibraltar SCGMCMA Shockmount Mic Adapter lets you keep those extra mic stands at home.
Great Adapter to Transform Cymbal Stands to Stable and Flexible Microphone Stands!
Got tired of expensive and poor quality mic stands. Decided to use several cymbal boom stands and added this adapter to attach the microphones (Neumann 184's, U87's, Manley, Schoeps ) to the head. Works perfectly and vastly superior to most mic stands. Much more stable and flexible. We use Latch Lake mic stands too, but they can be overkill when several mics are required. This solution is rock solid and a great alternative to poorly designed mic stands.
...but not how it's intended
I got two of these almost a year ago. Didn't plan on actually mic'ing above a cymbal that was being played but I had a couple extra boom stands to set up for overheads or rooms. First go, the rubber broke in two and left my 47jr hanging by the cord. Bummed it didn't work but didn't blame Gibraltar. Pretty sure it wasn't meant for a LDC. Then discovered that the rubber part will un-thread and the bottom and top threaded back together. So I removed the rubber from the second one also. It is solid this way.
But, every time I went to arrange the mic the bottom part, threaded to the stand, would come undone. I added another knurl so that it can be tightened and the mic can be adjusted separately. Works like a charm. Now I've got two boom mic stands that will never slip.
Cool piece of hardware!
If you mic up your whole kit at your shows, this adapter works great with a cymbal boom arm to mount your "Under-heads" to an existing cymbal stand that will blend in with drum hardware.
Awesome for the Price
Despite the negative reviews, thse are pretty awesome. I do agree that they are flimsy. But first off, to my knowlege, nobody else is making anything that does what these do, second, it's not like you're spending big bucks. I bought 2 of these to create overhead mounts for my kit out of tubing and boom arms (Came out gtreat) and these did the trick. I will say, I was almost scared I was going to break one, as I was making adjustments. So there is truth to some of the complaints you see in these reviews. Just treat these things with care, and when making adjustments, be sure to losen everything first. I'm happy with the results and plan on buying one more for my snare mic.
Not a shockmount
I'm really not sure what qualifies this a shockmount but it seems like just a piece of hard plastic. Had this mounted to a drum rack and the SM-57 on the snare that was in this picked up a vibration from a cymbal that was also mounted to the drum rack. Nice idea, but poorly executed.
Good idea-poor excecution
The item has a great idea wrapped in a weak and non road worthy design. I bought 2 of these. The first one snapped off the shock mount the second time I used it. The other one wobbled so bad that I quit using it. Frankly, I`m surprised that they still sell it. I`m a fan of Gibralter gear, but this little item doesn`t cut it.
Gibraltar Shock Mount
It not only snapped as soon as I tried to get it tightened, but the bottom piece got stuck onto my cymbal stand so I had to borrow a drill and wrench to get it off.
Weak!
Great concept, but lacks ay kind of road-worthiness. Made it through two gigs, and failed on the third. The isolation rubber is not built well and lacks the strength to tolerate simple tightening of the mic clip onto the adapter. I see that "1.0 (Just Not right For Me)" is the lowest level of review, but the phrase should indicate that this product is probably not right for anyone in its current design. Too bad. I liked the features...
