Behind its deceptively simple GUI, the Waves Renaissance Channel's unique dynamics section packs a ton of functionality into a set of controls you'll be able to master in no time. The dynamics section is broken into two parts, the compressor/expander and the expander/gate, but the control goes deeper still. The compressor/expander section lets you choose between Renaissance Compressor mode, a warm and musical opto-style compressor, and Renaissance Vox mode, a modified compressor that lets you reduce background noise - perfect for making vocals pop! Each mode offers you the convenience of Waves' ARC (adaptive release control), which, in combination with a fully adjustable and independent expander/gate lets you extend the dynamic range of your tracks to give them maximum punch and clarity.

Here's an EQ that's easy enough for a total novice to use yet effective enough that experienced mix engineers (and many live engineers as well) routinely find themselves reaching for it time and time again. Designed to emulate (in function, if not presentation) the operation of an analog console's 4-band EQ, the Renaissance Channel's equalizer lets you tweak you tone, without getting lost in unnecessary frills. What it does give you is the ability to define the nature of each band (bell or shelf or filter), and it delivers the kind of transparent results you'd expect only from a fine piece of hardware.

A set of truly useful secondary tools lets you easily get the most out of the Renaissance Channel's processors. First, there's the simple yet often overlooked EQ/Dynamics signal flow button, which lets you establish the order of the Renaissance Channel's two main processor sections. You also get a pair of side-chain inputs, complete with internal/external source selection and inline filtering, which make fine-turing the response of your dynamics processors a breeze. Last but not least there's the Renaissance Channel's phase flip and stereo rotation controls, both of which can really help you settle your tracks in the mix.
