Focusrite RedNet AM2 Dante Stereo Output Device Reviews

Stereo Dante Monitoring Unit with Headphone Amplifier and XLR Line-outputs

If you're a RedNet user, Sweetwater has an invaluable addition for your audio-over-IP system. A compact Dante-compatible stereo monitoring box, the Focusrite RedNet AM2 provides headphone and line-outs for flexible monitoring of signals from your Dante network. The AM2 gives you a convenient front-panel 1/4" TRS headphone jack that delivers healthy level to both high- and low-impedance 'phones, while a pair of balanced rear-panel male XLR line-outputs accommodate monitoring on speakers and other uses. The AM2 sports a rugged, extruded-aluminum casing with no-slip feet. The base is also threaded to accept a standard mic stand.

Ethernet port fail

By Manny from California

I saw a review for the same thing, basically I lost network connection in the middle of a livestream with no redundant audio. Tried switching the cable and it came back before 5 mins losing the network again. I have had this device for almost 1 year and have now experienced this issue twice. Not sure the root cause because I am on the power supply and not doing POE. Going to get a redundant setup going now so that I don't have to worry about that again.

I Like this box a lot, but...

By James D. from Charlotte, NC

I'd rate this interface better, except I have had two fail, one at the beginning of a recording session with 20 professional musicians ready to record. I tracked the session without being able to hear a thing! There seems to be a weakness with the POE Dante port, because I was running on POE both times when it failed. Perhaps using only the external power supply will solve the problem. The quality of the D/A converters is very good with this series, and they have done a lot of things right. I just hope third time is the charm.

Focusrite REDNET AM2 great but whens the multifunctional piece coming?

By Sweetwater Customer

So I will start with what I love, I love not waiting any longer for the final release of these. Wow, companies love releasing news so early. I own a red net 1 and FOUR red net 4s and love them minus the fact that there was no headphone solution, talkback, or any dante based control. So this unit frees up my other analog outs for headphone distribution and I have been using it as my control room DAC, volume control, and headphone amp. So far compared to the REDNET 1 output I haven't noticed any significant quality drop off in monitoring from the mains, but haven't had the unit long enough to compare that. But the output is clean and ability to have very short runs into the sub and ultimately into my big Bryston power amp has seemingly helped lower noise floor. I love not having to turn on the REDNET 1 to mix and monitor and like having an integrated HP output. The HP channel sounds very nice and the output even on my 600ohm HPs is very good. Ear shattering levels not achievable, but I think loud enough for most.

Build quality is very nice, box seems well built and the rear panel is well built with XLR outs and solid Cat 6 etc.. The knobs feel smooth and solid. I wish a little more resistance but nice.

So overall, love having the new features in the setup with the AM2, been waiting for something like it.

******However, why not two headphones, two stereo monitor outs? I would pay 800 for that without having to buy a second unit to do this and having two small but now redundant pieces on the desk.

Even better, why not rule the world with a full REDNET Dante control surface? 16-18 faders, two HP, monitor switching and talk balk. 2500$? take my money!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE

Tons of gain.

By Cam from Bay Area

Love it. Bought two of these for our church after purchasing our Rednet 6 and Madi option card for our D-Show. System is running great. These things have tons of headroom and the latency after processing everything through Protools with tons of plugins is only 10msec. Hard to believe. I'm a fan. NOTE: Update to the newest version of RedNet Control or it won't recognize the AM2's.
