Quantum Leap Pianos Bösendorfer 290
Bösendorfer is the only piano maker still building their instruments in the Viennese handcrafted design tradition. This results in pianos boasting the characteristic “Viennese sound,” with warm bass, singing treble, and rich overtones. The 8-octave, 9.5' Imperial 290 is Bösendorfer’s awe-inspiring flagship grand. The Imperial’s extended bass range resonates with every key you strike, and its massive soundboard projects emphatically at all frequencies. For Quantum Leap Pianos, EastWest sampled a wonderful-sounding 290 that had been played by a Russian concert pianist for four years. The results are stunning.

A legendary concert grand
The oldest piano manufacturer still in production, Bösendorfer was founded by Ignaz Bösendorfer in 1828, and it has a rich history of crafting some of the world’s finest instruments. The 9'6" Model 290 Imperial concert grand piano made its debut in 1909 under the auspices of company president Ludwig Bösendorfer, Ignaz’s son. The prototype was designed and built at the behest of Italian composer Ferruccio Busoni, who needed a piano on which he could play his transcriptions of J.S. Bach’s famous organ works. The Imperial is renowned for its powerful soundboard and its keyboard that extends to C0, for a full 8-octave range over 97 keys. The additional bass notes were necessary to do justice to the earth-shaking sound of an organ’s 32' bass pipes.
