HIGHLY Modulatable VERY Digital Synth

Rob Papen's Predator 3 is a synth that seems to be overshadowed by Xfer's Serum. In the first sound I did I got totally lost in it. It's GREAT for techno but has trouble with some of its frequencies. The high end sounds a bit unnatural. Cool sounds can be found but finding them can be quite exhausting & ear fatiguing. The inclusion of three filers is really how it should be on every synth. The keytracking high pass is wonderful for accentuating specific frequencies with the resonance & the second filter does nicely with the 12bB notch for creating sounds that will sit more comfortably in a mix. I found the Z filters a bit strange but the other filters I used I liked. The wealth of waveforms makes this synth pretty exciting along with the modulation capabilities from a second waveform for each oscillator. Subs on every oscillator is a nice feature too. The spread control of the oscillators gives a nice detuning & at low amounts doesn't really give super saw type sounds but a softening of the waveforms. Pretty useful. Similar with the unison modes. The LFOs & envelopes are quite nice but I do have a problem with the pitch LFO restarting its phase with every note trigger. It should be free running. Also it is not possible to use the amp envelope as a modifier which is just beyond me. The effects are quite good & having a pre & post filter distortion is another feature that should be standard on every synth. For the effects I kept going back to the cabinet for even more distortion & the tape chorus for fast detuning. The included reverb however is completely unusable & sounds kind of like a degraded MP3. Nearly everything is modifiable & that really does so much. I found a very cool use for the vector envelope which was creating little pitch articulation patterns. Definitely a sound of superior techno. Predator 3 does sound wayyy more digital than an analog synth or even something like a microKORG but if you want a HIGHLY modulated sound & an at times distorted alternative to Serum it's an excellent choice.
