Great Tone Made Affordable

The PST7 series is the result of Paiste's continued development of materials and production techniques - giving you the sound and quality you're used to from Paiste cymbals at an affordable price. Made using the same CuSn8 Bronze (aka 2002 Bronze) base that their famous 2002 series is comprised of, these cymbals work great in a wide variety of musical settings to keep your kit's sound as versatile as you need it to be. The sound is brilliant and clear, warm and strong, with powerful projection. Sweetwater's drum experts will tell you the quickest way to freshen up your drum sound is with new cymbals, and Paiste makes that easy with the PST7 series.

Paiste - a tradition of innovation

Paiste meets the creative needs of drummers and percussionists with innovative cymbals, gongs, and bronze percussion instruments. Founded at the beginning of the 20th Century, Paiste lays claim to a number of cymbal firsts, including the first use of 8% bronze, the wavy-edged hi-hat bottom cymbal, the bell-less flat ride, unlathed hammered cymbals, color-coated cymbals, China cymbals with a downturned edge, and the invention of their Signature Bronze Alloy. World-class drummers such as Bill Bruford, Stewart Copeland, and Vinnie Colaiuta have long relied on Paiste cymbals to forge their signature sounds - and so can you!

Paiste's PST7 18" thin crash cymbal is bright, warm, and airy with plenty of sizzle, a medium wide range, and complex mix. Use this light crash for accents in low to moderate musical styles.

A vibrant sound for a budget cymbal

My philosophy for cymbals on a budget is to spend high on rides and hi-hats, but to look for budget options when it comes to crashes and other cymbals that would crack more frequently. Therefore, I wanted to find a Paiste series that didn't break the bank account, but also had a good sound. I was torn between either the PST7 or 900 series. Since I tend to hit hard, I wanted to get thin crashes as I have found that they tend to absorb the hits better. For the price you pay, this crash really has a nice sound that doesn't sound overly clanky or "tinny" like your average low budget cymbal lines (Sabian B8 or Zildjian ZBT, for example). The bell isn't much, but that's also not what I look for in a crash cymbal. I currently have the 18" and the 16" counterpart combined with a 20" RUDE ride/crash and the 24" RUDE Mega Power Ride, so there is an obvious contrast in the volumes of those cymbals. I will note that since this is a thin crash, the volume doesn't project as powerfully as a thicker crash would, and that is a bit noticeable on my kit. I'm also aware that a volume comparison may seem a bit silly when my other cymbals are from the RUDE series. It does have a rather odd ringing sustain to it after the hit which isn't exactly a problem, but it is noticeable, and one should keep that in mind when comparing cymbals. Given the great sound and response of this crash compared to how cheap it is, I'd give it a solid 4/5. It might not be the best for loud heavy music live, but it's still a great budget option if you share the same cymbal purchasing philosophy as me.
