Ultimate Private Stock Jazz Box
When PRS does a Private Stock jazz box, they do it right. Take the Private Stock #9901 Singlecut Archtop. PRS’s elite luthiers applied their world-class guitar-crafting expertise to this classic hollowbody electric, and it shows in every inch of its masterful construction. For well over a decade, Paul Reed Smith has hoarded the very best woods for his Private Stock guitars, stashing them away in the Vault, PRS’s repository of rare premium tonewoods. Open the case, and you’re treated to a mouth-watering symphony of superb tonewoods, starting with a gorgeous maple gold top followed by mahogany sides and a maple back. You’ll savor the feel of the raw curly maple neck as your fingers dance on the smoothly buffed, bound ebony fingerboard with signature bird inlays. Spec’d with a dynamic duo of Lollar dog ear P-90s (each one chosen for optimal tonal performance in its respective position), the PRS Private Stock #9901 Singlecut Archtop is a peerless instrument that was made to be treasured — and played — for generations.

Thinking outside the box
Paul Reed Smith made his mark in guitar design by thinking outside the box (no pun intended), and the #9901 Singlecut Archtop employs the same level of innovation as Private Stock solidbody, semi-hollowbody, and acoustic guitars. This traditional single-cutaway archtop electric is built on the PRS acoustic guitar design platform for robust build quality with outstanding tone, resonance, and articulation. As with PRS acoustics, the back and sides of the Archtop are firmly braced while the top is free to vibrate without restriction. The top’s integrated parallel bracing further supports the guitar’s construction integrity and resonance, while the Private Stock aluminum-bronze bridge with brass saddles and solid ebony tailpiece enhance the instrument’s woody richness and depth without sacrificing articulation.
Exceptionally crafted Lollar dog ear P-90s
Focusing their three-decades worth of cutting-edge experience on the tone shaping realm of electric guitars, steel guitars, and bass, Lollar has quickly become a respected name around Sweetwater. Outfitted with dual Lollar dog ear P-90s, the PRS Private Stock #9901 captures that warm, vintage tone resonant with classic late '50s single-coils. The neck and bridge pickups combine their powers to bring you balanced output and exceptional articulate dynamic range. Plug the #9901 into your favorite amp and experience the thrill of Lollar's expertly crafted dog ear P-90s.
Pattern Regular neck profile for fluid playability
The Private Stock #9901 Singlecut Archtop features PRS’s Pattern Regular neck profile. Evolved from designs Paul Reed Smith has been working on for decades and perfected after years of prototyping, the Pattern Regular neck shape is similar to the traditional PRS Regular neck found on PRS guitars made in the late 1980s. The Pattern Regular neck carve provides a satisfying balance between chunky ’50s-style necks and the thin necks that became popular in the early ’60s. It’s ideal for players who alternate between thumb-over fretting techniques and classical left-hand positioning, pivoting with their thumb on the back of the neck.
Nitro finish, for the look and feel of a classic
This Private Stock instrument wears a gorgeous nitrocellulose lacquer finish over a cellulose CAB base coat. PRS’s proprietary process results in a finish that’s thin, durable, and crystal clear — the perfect formula for vintage feel and superior resonance. Nitrocellulose finishes, standard back in the day, are significantly thinner than today’s polyurethane finishes, allowing the wood to breathe — and the tone to bloom. Nitro finishes not only look amazing; they also enhance the instrument’s tonal qualities. This guitar has the look, feel, and sound of a lovingly cared-for classic — one that will only improve with age.
Private Stock: the best of the best
Deep in the bowels of PRS's Maryland facility, there lies a vault containing the finest tonewoods that PRS's expert lumber buyers can procure. From intensely figured maple to ultra-rare species like koa or cocobolo, more than 20 species of wood wait for the day they get to become an instrument. Once the buyer selects the wood, an elite team of PRS luthiers lavish all their skills on every aspect of the guitar's production and sign their names inside the guitar. Finally, each Private Stock instrument is inspected and signed by Paul Reed Smith himself before being sent out to its new owner. Private Stock guitars are built by the finest craftsmen using the finest materials. They're genuinely the best of the best that PRS has to offer. And in the words of PRS, the private stock vault is "a wooden candy store," and you're looking at its crown jewel.
