Stunning Private Stock McCarty Prototype
PRS’s elite luthiers applied their world-class guitar-crafting expertise to this prototype Private Stock #8362 McCarty, and it shows in every inch of its masterful construction. It all starts with the tonewoods. For over a decade, Paul Reed Smith has hoarded the very best woods for his Private Stock instruments, stashing them away in The Vault, PRS’s repository of premium tonewoods. Open the case, and you’re treated to a mouthwatering symphony of superb tonewoods: a stunning curly maple top, lightweight figured mahogany body, Peruvian mahogany neck with a Honduran rosewood fingerboard adorned with iconic Ripple abalone birds inlays. Complete with PRS 35/20 Alnico II humbuckers for sweet vintage-flavored tone, the PRS Private Stock #8362 McCarty was clearly made to be treasured — and played — for generations.

Historic McCarty pedigree
Ted McCarty had his hand in some of the most legendary designs in electric guitar history, including the original humbucking pickup. McCarty began mentoring Paul Smith, and the original PRS McCarty model debuted in the 1990s. Since that time, the popular model has been re-released with updated specs and continues to be a popular line for the company. This McCarty represents the latest incarnation of that model, replete with updated pickups, a spectacular neck feel, and sublime Private Stock tonewoods.
The finest tonewoods on the planet
The PRS Private Stock Vault contains some of the finest tonewoods on the planet. Gorgeous wood sets for tops and backs. Toneful neck blanks. Exotic fingerboards. When you craft a guitar with materials of this caliber, you get an extraordinary instrument. When Sweetwater’s guitar experts visit The Vault, they can smell the wood, feel it, wet it to reveal the grain, and knock on it to hear its distinctive tone. This gives them a keen sense of the unique instruments we will finally present to you. This Private Stock McCarty is a breathtaking guitar with jaw-dropping visuals, off-the-charts playability, and eat-it-with-a-spoon tone.
Pattern profile neck is fast and comfortable
This Private Stock #8362 McCarty is fitted with PRS’s Pattern-profile neck. Paul Reed Smith’s Pattern neck carve has many fans among guitarists here at Sweetwater. A hallmark of PRS quality, neck shapes are, of course, critical to your playing experience. Perfected after years of prototyping, the Pattern neck is an updated wide-fat PRS neck style based on designs Paul did in the 1970s and ’80s for Carlos Santana, Peter Frampton, and Howard Leese of Heart. It’s fast and feels just right. The guitar’s premium rosewood fingerboard is silky smooth under your fingertips, and with its exquisite signature PRS bird inlays, no one will mistake your axe for anything other than a PRS.
Drink in this guitar’s smooth, glassy voice
With their remarkable clarity and extended highs and lows, PRS 35/20 pickups retain a vintage flavor while delivering a solid tonal foundation for modern music applications. In the Private Stock #8362 McCarty, this potent sonic elixir is routed through a 3-way pickup selector switch and master volume and tone controls. The tone pot is push-pull for coil-splitting for access to sweet ’n’ spanky single-coil combinations. All of which means this axe can serve up any electric guitar sound you could ever need. From jazz and fusion to blues, rock, and country, from chimey rhythm parts to blistering leads — and everything in between — the PRS Private Stock #8362 McCarty delivers.
Nitro finish, for the look and feel of a classic
This Private Stock instrument wears a gorgeous nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Nitro finishes — standard back in the day — are significantly thinner than today’s polyurethane finishes, allowing the guitar’s tonewoods to "breathe." Nitro finishes not only look amazing; they also enhance the instrument’s tonal qualities. This guitar has the look and feel of a lovingly cared-for classic — one that will only improve with age.
