Open the case and you're treated to a symphony of superb tonewoods: a premium torrified quilted maple top, an ebony fingerboard adorned with PRS's "J" Birds inlays, artistically rendered in mother-of-pearl and paua. The headstock wears a matching ebony veneer graced with the exclusive "J" Private Stock Eagle inlay, also in mother-of-pearl and paua, and is fitted with a set of PRS's excellent Phase III locking tuners with ebony buttons that subtly echo the guitar's headstock and fingerboard. This Private Stock #7179 Custom 24 was also outfitted with an eminently playable Pattern Vintage neck — a profile normally reserved for PRS's 594 models. Clear and smooth vintage voice
When you plug this Private Stock #7179 into your favorite amplifier, you will be enveloped in a rich and decidedly vintage tone. The sound is similar to the warm, clear tones that have propelled the original 58/15 pickups to the top of many of Sweetwater guitarists' favorite PAF-style pickup list. But the lower wire turns of the 58/15 LTs deliver even more clarity and nuance. Pulling up on the tone knobs attains true single-coil chime, and you have full and independent control of each pickup by way of the 4-knob control layout.
