Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 HH FR - Dark Amber Reviews

6-string Solidbody Electric Guitar with Mahogany Body, Quilt Maple Top, Maple Neck/Fretboard, 2 Humbucking Pickups, and Floyd Rose Tremolo - Dark Amber

Two guitar icons come together in the Charvel Pro-Mod DK24. The classic Jackson Dinky body, here topped with vibrant quilted maple, is substantial in the hands and contoured against the body, while the Charvel two-piece reinforced maple Speed Neck remains rock solid as it ages. Charvel's familiar 12"–16" compound-radius maple fretboard flattens out nicely in the upper registers, giving technical players the speed and expression they need for bends, runs, and vibrato. Despite its aggressive looks you'll find a vast sonic range to explore, via twin Seymour Duncan humbucking pickups routed through a five-way position selector. Factor in the Floyd Rose 1000 recessed tremolo tailpiece for expressive bends and dives, and it's obvious the Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 guitar is primed for explosive playability.

A Stunning Beauty, and the Best Value to Dollar I’ve ever seen

By Chris Leonard from Longmont, CO on February 26, 2024 Music Background: Anything with strings

This is a special guitar. Charvel is already a sleeper of a company, and this model, while being a hit out of the park, seems to be overlooked by the market. I am so glad I did not pass it up. Fit and finish is top notch; I've had this guitar for weeks, going over every inch and it's perfect— I've only found one tiny 'flaw' that I would not even count because it's not even visible. The laminate finish is immaculate, and the join to the body is perfectly smooth. Props to Sweetwaters inspection team, and my sales agent Mark— the instrument arrived in perfect condition, and the setup was within an ace of where I wanted it. Mark let me know exactly whn it would arrive, and even after a shipment to Colorado altitude, it was nearly in tune.

This thing plays like a dream, a sort of super strat hyper hybrid monster, with a fast neck and a wealth of tones at your fingertips. The tone bypass is a thoughtful touch that I instantly began using, and it's easy to find, while the tone pot is smooth and linear. The neck and bridge buckers have very different sounds, and the combo of pickups available is fantastic, giving a range of sounds that's easy and logical to navigate, like a strat. But this is no strat— the floyd rose is right at home on this guitar, and takes it right over the top into the land of hard rock, dive bombs, and whatever other sonic indulgences you fancy. But this beast of a guitar can just as easily dial in a super smooth jazz tone, soft and warm as an old hat.

In terms of looks, it's a killer. Gold hardware is not easy to pull off, but this model does it with ease. The depth of the finish and tiger stripe maple on mine was just fantastic. The overall impression is classy, not flashy or pretentious, and this guitar has the goods to back it up all the way. I would expect an instrument at this level to cost half again what it's priced at, considering the features and level of quality. And considering the level of attention to detail displayed by the Sweetwater sales team, I would buy another guitar from them without hesitation.

THIS IS WHAT CHARVEL's ARE!

By Lt. Dan from NC on February 15, 2024 Music Background: Luthier, Learning to play again after 25 years

I haven't bought a new guitar in 32 years. Mainly because I work too much and put playing guitar aside. I was completely removed from music to make a living. About a year ago I reconnected myself with repairing guitar for friends (I am a luthier but had to get a 9 to 5 to raise a family) and from the very first guitar I repaired, I fell in love with them again. Opned my own guitar cases and found my old friends just waiting. So I had to look for some new friends. Enter Max Rapp. In many conversations, about music and repairs or just life, and it took awhile to find the right one, and THIS ONE was it! I have a few old school Charvels from the 80's/90's that I'll not part with but this one was love at first sight but to play it? This thing is what the old school Charvels were and what they were meant to be! I can't find anything on it that I don't like and any flaws on her (there are none) that I couldn't fix. Max..... Thank you from the bottom of my heart! You made a veteran very happy by just talking guitars and pointing out that ....It's possible!

Charvel still ROCKS. . .

By Scott Horn from Carmel, IN on May 8, 2023 Music Background: I'm 54. been playing guitar since I was 8yrs old

First a Big Shout out to Jerrod, my Sales Engineer at SWEETWATER. I love the Charvel neck. Legit REAL Floyd Rose. Two Seymour Duncan Humbuckers provide both Hot and soulful sounds. I've owned a few Charvel San Dimas models in the past, this is my first pro-Mod. I owned a Mexican Fender Strat that had a Fender locking trem, and a SSH pickup configuration. I pulled the hamburger out & replaced with a Charvel Ceramic pickup. It was a Warren DeMartini mod (RATT) This Pro-Mod will be my #1 guitar. Also have Epiphone Muse SG. I play thru a BOSS KATANA-100 MKII

Nice value for the price

By Emerson from AUSTIN, TX on April 21, 2023

Arrived in perfect condition. Fit and finish is great, it stays in tune with heavy trem use, and the pickups sound good enough that I'm not worried about replacing them. The pickup selection config is great, and is the same as I rewire my HH guitars that aren't already done that way. After performing a full setup and getting the action really low I found a buzz on the 7th fret only under the high E. A quick spot level and polish fixed that and now the entire neck is great. Probably wouldn't have been an issue if I didn't like the action so low. For the price the frets were done very well from the factory.

Swapped in a push in arm and brass block and I think I'm done. It's a great player and there are no regrets selling my RG565 to purchase this one.

Super Versatile Guitar

Love the guitar. For the price is the best thing you can have, I can go from Clean Tones to High Gains. Love the feel of the neck and how smooth is to play, excellent tuning stability, great floyd, nice looking guitar.
Best Guitar For the Price

Outstanding value.

By Sweetwater Customer on October 14, 2020

Beautiful, comfortable, fast playing guitar for a great value. I can't speak much for the tones because I did switched up the pickups, but the stock pickups are so versatile in this setup. I actually installed them in another guitar. This easily the best neck I have ever played.

So sweet(water)

By Chris from Virginia on May 29, 2020

This guitar is amazing. The top finish has so much depth. Beautiful! I had it Plek'd. The techs at Sweetwater did a great job. Like butter! Adam Cesarz is my sales rep and has been for many years. He is very knowledgeable and helpful. I couldn't ask for a better rep. He is great! Thank you Adam.

A BEAST of a guitar in a beautiful finish

By Rob Hijar from San Antonio, TX on August 30, 2023 Music Background: I play in several local bands, funk and R & B is my favorite for crowd reaction but progressive shredding is my favorite when I can...

This guitar is awesome, almost gave her 5 stars but I have to say the PUPS are not up to the rest of the guitars high standards. I will get into that later. The guitar has an amazing finished neck, no overhanging frets like on an American standard Fender I ordered a few years back. The quality of the wood and the workmanship is just amazing. I recommend you don't get the guitar plek'd right out of the gate, I should have waited. I live in Texas and so by the time it got here the neck was just a little out of whack and the action was almost where I wanted it but not quite. It arrived here in Texas at the end of July. Super hot at the shipping warehouses and trucks it was shipped in. I know the Sweetwater team did a great job but it came a long way and was sitting in hot trucks for days. It is dry here now so that is also a factor. I made the adjustments over the last month and it is now EXACTLY where I want it to be. The Floyd floats perfectly and can be pulled up without fretting out.Nice! I am going to change out the PUPS eventually because these are very hot and distort immediately, yes, I know that it is what is described on the Sweetwater website. It is not where I want them though. I play progressive rock, blues, funk and some R & B, so these PUPS are not cutting it for me. Thanks go to Tim Vanderpool for all the updates and advice, it took me a while to pull the trigger on this. Thank you to Sweetwater for great tech and customer service.

Charvel dk24 dark amber

I spoke to Charles Cummins, given me an fantastic price for my dream guitar . Delivered in 2 days, open the box , which was packed very well, took her out an play it, it was in tune. Great customer service, fast and very reliable, thank you oh love the candy too lol

Not a great guitar

By Sweetwater Customer on January 3, 2023

Had to send the first one due to a ding. The second one was a lemon. Neck way out of alignment. E string pulled of. Volume knob had zero resistance to turn. Volume level between 5 way switch positions varied. The action was way too high. Unfortunately, the frets are very big. I've spent $ setting it up and changing the pickup switch to a 3 position. I also replaced the volume pot. Ground the nut down too. Had to reset the neck.
I have a buddy who had better luck with his. Good luck if you buy one.
