James Hetfield Pick Tin with 6 Custom Picks

When the master of heavy riffing comes to you asking for a pick designed to hold up to his standards, the only thing to do is listen and listen closely. This is exactly what Dunlop did when none other than James Hetfield approached them to design a pick made for heavy attack and outstanding response. Using their classic Flow Standard Pick as a foundation, Dunlop developed the James Hetfield White Fang Custom pick. This custom pick brings a snappy attack and crisp articulation.

Special design for special feel and attack

The White Fang has a smaller and lower-profile grip for outstanding control even when things get sweaty — ideal for digging in on power chords and chunky riffs. The blended beveled edge allows for better glide across the strings, and the wide angle and sharp tip provide a focused attack when needed. Heavy-hitting guitarists here at Sweetwater love the feel, response, and articulation of this custom-designed pick.

Dunlop James Hetfield White Fang Custom Pick Tin Features:

  • Pick tin with James Hetfield White Fang artwork
  • Includes 6 custom-designed picks
  • Designed for stellar attack and feel
  • Based on classic Flow Standard with slightly heftier thickness
  • Blended beveled edge allows for better glide across the strings
  • Wide angle and sharp tip provide a focused attack when needed

I absolutely LOVE these pics!

Amazing

To spread the word, a bandmate gave me one of the White Fangs he bought. I instantly liked it. It is not a Jazz III, which is what both of us are accustomed to. Both of us are also accustomed to 1.5-2mm. Still, White Fangs are comfortable, and hit hard, but also perform quickly. They also feel thicker than they are, meaning the 1.14mm feel more akin to a 1.5mm than a 1mm. White Fangs also have bumps, to make them grippy. Those bumps help me a lot, because my sweaty hands would drop them if not for those bumps.

I used that White Fang for the entire practice. A week later, I used it to record a song. Being so impressed, I bought more. Better yet, I use Altoids tins to carry my picks, so a White Fang tin is right up my alley.

To pass it on, I showed that White Fang to another bandmate, and he was instantly impressed. He informed me he is buying a tin for himself.

I don't know if they will permanently separate me from my Gravity picks, but I do love them.

(Beginner's Opinion)

I've played around with a few different picks, textured Dunlops in 1mm, Ernie Ball Everlast in 1.14, and the issue I ran into is the Ernie's weren't flexible enough but we're a great weight, the Dunlops were too flexible for my taste and the texture just rubbed my finger the wrong way, these were absolutely perfect for the middle ground I wanted. It feels a little bit like a cat's tongue so be warned, but overall my favorite pick hands down. The tin is really convenient as well as it locks into place. The only downside to these are the fact that the ink for the wolf's mouth started rubbing off onto my strings while playing and got on my finger, not that big of an issue for me, thus the five star rating.
